WHEEEE!!!!!

Word of warning, if you take medications be very, very careful and not double up the dose. I did that this morning when I took my beta blocker and I've been higher then a kite and feeling icky at the same time. Luckily my pulse rate didn't drop too low. I told my boss about it and said if she saw me on the floor to throw a blanket on me. She insisted she'd be calling 911 instead. Best nights sleep I've had in quite a while Weather is nice today. Still haven't gotten the old ;) fridge out, hubby had other plans last night :D Going to see if a friend is available tomorrow to help us haul off that fridge. I also need to get all the window inserts out into the shed for storage. We are going to uncover the back door so kitties have access thru the window so they can go in and out al they want. With luck it will also encourage Tuffy and Angel to come visit and maybe play with Nicky inside. Hubby is going to see about getting a couple of small window air conditioners.

Stuff

Ms Ella Phant, that young elephant about town has her very own blog. She'll be posting pics of her adventures out and about. Her blog is called Ms Ella's Adventures . If you like sick, twisted and funny songs, Tom Smith has a site and a blog of his own. He does filk, which is science fiction and fantasy music. Some are set to familier tunes and some are original music. He has some downloads and MP3s on his site so you can sample his wares. Didn't get the old fridge out last night, hopefully tonight or soon. It needs to go to the dump this weekend. Did a simple dinner last night. Got some whole wheat pocket bread, a couple cans of chili (walla wall sweet onion flavor and cheedar cheese flavor), cheese and sour cream. A nice simple dinner and very, very filling. Weather is clearing up. Didn't get our thunderstorms yesterday :( I really miss the thunderstorms we used to have. I guess they decided to move elsewhere. Definately feeling better, more energy and the musc

A couple of things

Cool day today, supposed to get some more rain and a possible thunderstorm. I'm hoping for the thunderstorm, we haven't had a decent one in a while. Today started off rocky, woke up 10 minutes til 7am and practically killed myself getting to the shower. Luckily I had set the coffee maker last night and actually set it to autobrew. Good thing I also had a cup this morning, I left my mug in the car. Hubby said it was very good when he called (it should be good, I'd put in 3 heaping tsps of my mocha mix in it :D ). He called to remind me to make an appointment with my regular doc, I did, their computers are down. Got the food transfered into the new to us fridge last night. I was ruthless and tossed a few things, like the 6 bottles of salsa with a 1/3 cup left in each, the 3 bottles of grape jelly with the 2 tablespoons in each and a number of items that were trying to commit world domination. The old fridge is going out the door tonight, tho it will sit on the porch

Rainy Monday

With the exception of Mister passing on, it has been a pretty good weekend. Friday afternoon we ran errands and picked up a friend who came over to visit and do laundry. He bought pizza and we watched some funny BBCAmerica shows we had on the DVR. Didn't get to bed until 1:30am, way past our bedtime, but it was fun and it has been a while since we had someone over for and evening. Saturday was clean the car and putter about some more. Went over to the community garden in the evening and helped do a little weeding. One of the things we puttered out for was a cane for me. While I'm starting to feel better (so far no side effects, knock on wood), the muscle weakness is still bad, esp in my legs. Trying to stand up from the couch and most chairs is very difficult and hubby brow beat me into gettnig a cane. It will serve as an extra one for him, for me it is a temporary measure (I HATE having to use it, but I hate the struggle to stand up even moe). I did find the cane comes in han

Bye Bye Mister Kitty

Image
Our elder kitty Mister crossed the Rainbow Bridge sometime during the night. He passed peacefully in his sleep curled up in his kitty basket. Mister came to us from some friends who needed to leave him with someone for a few weeks, but they must have decided he was better off with us as they never came back for him. Mister loved to pretend he was a wild kitty and took to disappearing and then showing up a couple days later with a pleased look on his face, tho when the weather got icky he became a contented indoor kitty. We feared for the safety of the emus down the road he was such a good hunter. He turned into an old kitty in the last year, staying in the house more and more, tho he still liked to go out and sit and remenise being a wild kitty. We'll bury him out at a friend's place where there is a pond and lots of woods. We love you Mister and will miss you.

Frankly my dear, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore

A little while ago I had a neat title to post under, but my brain had a train wreck and I can't for the life of me remember what the heck it was :( I am REALLY hating this memory loss. Started the methimazole Tuesday night and so far I'm still feeling ick Graves' wise. So far no side effects, but that may still take a few days to happen. I'm giving serious consideration of cutting the pills in half and spreading the meds across the day. Right now I'm just taking them one in the morning and one before bed. Hubby is going to set the old palm pilot up for me to beep reminders. I have to have something give me reminders during the day, I WILL forget to take my meds otherwise. The first time around hubby gave me an old watch I kept in my purse to beep at pill time. I couldn't (and still can't) wear watches, I kill them in a day or two. The darn things stop. So the palm should do the trick. Put in for more vacation time this summer, fingers crossed it is approve

Menopause Doc Fudged Data BURLINGTON, Vt., June 21, 2005 Millions of women have taken hormone therapy, only to learn in recent years that its health benefits were never proved and there were risks involved instead. Now it turns out a key researcher who touted the benefits of hormone replacement is facing a five year jail term, reports CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson. Dr. Eric Poehlman was renowned for his groundbreaking research on women and menopause. He theorized that menopause makes women lose muscle and gain fat, and causes health problems hormones could help fix. His work was considered so significant it prompted doctors to prescribe hormones for years - a treatment now called into question because of its health risks. "Dr. Poehlman was a mentor to me in many ways," said Walter DeNino, Poehlman's research assistant at the University of Vermont. But he discovered a dark side to his mentor, Attkisson reports. It turns out menopausal women weren't de

As we were heading out of Spokane on Dishman-Mica Road on our way to connect with State 27, we were stopped at a light and I was looking ahead to the left when I saw an amazing sight. The light went green and a second later I saw that I hadn't been going nuts: I did see a building that was built to look like several Brisitsh call boxes placed side by side. We sped on by, thinking we should turn around and get some pics. We kept going until we ended up having to turn off the road, so we turned around then (it was a sign, we HAD to go back LOL) and went back. Besides, we needed coffee. While hubby ordered, I hopped out to get the pics: The clever name for this business?: They are now marked in our GPS. They make a mean iced mocha.

Back from the endo

So I saw the endo this monring. My appointment was at 8am. Which meant that I had to set the alarm for 5am and we had to be on the road by 6am. Made it there abput 7:45am and found the place with only 1 wrong turn. Appointment was supposed to be at 8am, I didn't get to see the endo until 8:45. I hate waiting that long and I was supposed to be the first patient. GRRRRRRR So I see the nurse first for BP, pulse and going over a few items. Endo finally comes in and we go over things. He asked what treatment route I wanted to go with, I said surgery. He proceeds to paint surgery in the worst light and how RAI was the best route. Tried to claim surgery was only used on pregnant women who can't tolerate PTU and of course couldn't do RAI. I didn't call bullshit on him, I wanted out of there. The only valid reason he gave for not doing surgery is the fact I have sleep apnea and that may throw a monkey wrench in that idea. We'll do some serious googling and checking with sur

Circle on Saturday was very nice. The weather had cleared up and it was gorgeous down by the pond. I wasn't sure for a while if I was going to be able to participate as I was extremely jittery and having a heck of a time getting my heart rate under control, but the beta-blocker finally kicked in. I did have to have D come down with his pickup after circle to give me a lift back up. There was no way I was going to be able to climb that hill. Had a heck of a time getting to sleep that night. Hubby and I finally got up at 4am and watched a couple hours of TV and went back to bed. 500 channels and there isn't a whole heck of a lot to watch at 4am. Sunday was a nice day. Managed to get some cleaning done. Had the front door open most of the day. Nicky's brother Tuffy wandered in for a minute. Eventually he and Angel will figure out we won't bite and they are quite welcome to come in. For dinner I went out and harvested some of the lettuce blend and some spinach to make a s

An experiment

I am currently attempting a totally new dish completely from my own mind. Not sure how it is going to come out. I need to take a dish to circle tonight and I wanted to try one that eveyone can eat (hopefully). My aunt had sent us several packages of dried wild mushrooms, so I took one and have it soaking to reconsitute the 'shrooms. I have 2 cups of lentils cooking on the stove and I've just added the liquid the 'shrooms were soaking in to add a little more flavor. The plan is to drain the lentils when done and add the 'shrooms and mix together. I haven't decided what to season it all with, probably some white basalmic vinegar and go from there. Once done I'll pop it in the fridge to chill for a little bit. I'll post the final recipe and how it went over with everyone tommorrow. Fingers crossed :D

Can't think of a witty title, so this is it

Having a leak in one's air mattress doesn't make for a decent nights sleep. A small leak developed in it earlier this week, so we finally figured out where it was and patched it. Unfortunately it was in a spot that didn't take a patch well, there was a seam that didn't take the patch at all. So we were able to take it back to the store and exchanged it for a different brand. We thought about getting the same kind, but we were afraid it might have been part of a bad lot, so we picked out a different brand. The one we had had a very nice hand pump built in for topping up the mattress,so it was a bummer to not get another one. But I need my sleep, as does hubby and we didn't want to risk another blowout in the middle of the night. We had 2 of them, one was for guests, but we had to switch to that one when the 1st one sprung a very similar leak. I tried sleeping in, but the mattress deflated on me, even tho we'd filled it up again about 7 this morning. I moved out

You go girl!

Here is a way cool story: Friday, June 17, 2005 Byron Crawford Eat some fat, and you too may reach 100 Oh my! Did some insurance agent ever goof back in 1923. Whoever turned down Demetra Ferguson of Sonora for a policy because he considered her to be overweight and a poor health risk just may have missed out on 82 years of premium payments. Ferguson is still a bit overweight -- on the eve of her 100th birthday next Thursday. "I wanted to get some insurance, just for women, maybe. I don't remember what the company was," she said this week. "They wouldn't take me. They said I was too heavy. I might have been 160 pounds, I don't know." Chances are the insurance agent has long since passed on to that final resting place of whole life policies, but Demetra Ferguson is still living in the same house that has been her home since she married in the summer of 1922. She is still eating sausage fried on the same GE electric range -- and eating ice cream t

Ahhhh, the weekend is upon me

It's been trying to rain since I got home from work. Hubby applied the gas pedal when he realized that he'd left a window open. Luckily it was on our road and we were almost home. Not much rain came in. Planning on resting when I can and attempting to get to my garden this weekend. I've not been able to get out to it this week. I'm hoping we get more rain this evening to make up for the lack of watering since the rain this last Monday morning. We've Summer Solstice this Saturday. I'm greeting, as usual. It is out at a members place where we built a circle. Lovely spot, right above a pond. The only problem for me this time around is having the energy and the strength to come back up the hill after circle. I may seriously lobby that they put in a chair lift for future circles LOL We were supposed to be meeting a friend and her family when they came thru Lewiston on their way to Montana on Sunday. We were going to meet them for lunch, but the budget blew up on u

Grrrrrrr

Another reason to hate this bout of Graves', it is screwing up my playing Diablo II! I get so jittery that I have problems moving my character around and I hit the wrong blasted keys when I'm trying to key the life bottles and instead I'm hitting every other key but the right one. I suppose tho that playing DIablo II is not the right thing to do when I need to keep myself calm, but there are times I need to slaughter things or else I am going to go off on family and friends. Better to play a computer video game and possibly break another keyboard then to start flinging things at hubby LOL

Home today

Didn't get much sleep last night, which meant that this morning all the Graves' symptoms were magnified and I was exhausted. So I called in and then went back to bed. Managed to get some sleep, but I'm still feeling jittery and I'm hoping the beta-blocker kicks in soon. Blech! Catching up on several episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard , the only thing running on CMT that is worth watching. I probably will stop watching it for a while when they show the episodes with the replacement Duke cousins (Wopat and Schnieder were thrown off the show over a salary dispute I think, so TPTB figured they could just replace them. TPTB soon learned they figured wrong). I've been catching the ads for the new movie. SHUDDER!!!!! Willy should be ashamed to be seen in that stinker.

Warning: Whining ahead

Sitting and feeling ones' body disinigrate is not at all pleasant. The beta-blockers are barely keeping the tachycardia at bay, the jitters and shakes are getting worse by the minute and the really annoying thing is the muscle weakness is to the point I am seriously considering stealing hubby's wheelchair so I can move about without wanting to fall down and cry. I kept standing up last night after work to go out and water my garden, then kept sitting down again. No energy and just standing up was a chore. Which made fixing dinner a royal pain. Hubby kept telling me to use the rolly chair (a secrataries chair we have) while I was in the kitchen. Problem is it is short and I am short and my eyes would have barely been level with the range top. Not a good situation when trying to cook. I've got to work up some meals hubby can do, a lot of "pull it out of the freezer and just throw it in the oven to cook" type things. He can't stand very long, thanks to a back in

Flag Day

The History Of Flag Day The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'. On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the follo

Not Guilty

I'm sure everyone in the world has now heard that the jury in the Michael Jackson trial has come back with a verdict of not guilty on all counts. Personally, from what I saw of and read about the trial, the prosecuation had an extremely weak case. They could not come up with a single believable witness, putting the mother on the stand was probably the worst thing they could have done and calling witnesses that you've publically stated will be testifying against the defendant and then having them say under oath that nothing happened really blows your case out of the water. I feel really sorry for the kid who was the center of all this. To be sick and dying and having been dragged thru all of this is a horrible thing to do to someone. My advice to Michael after all of this is to grow up. You are 46 years old, you've outgrown sleep overs long ago and need to start acting your age. Interacting with kids is fun, but you need to find friends your own age.

Garden update

Image
My daisies are blooming: The lettuce blend is ready to start harvetsing. My friend who gardens told me I can cut it with scissors and it will keep coming back, tho I will be sowing a few more seeds to fill in between rows (I plan on LOTS of salads this summer :) ): The spinach is coming along and above it is the broccoli (not sure if I'll get anything from it, I did plant late) and I planted the cabbage around the edges of the broccoli: My sugar peas are also coming along:

The cats have been particulary cute this weekend :D KiKi: Pretending she's laying on a branch I guess hehehehehe: "Do you mind?!?! Put that camara away!" The idiot child getting into a tricky spot: "Hmmmmmm, now that I'm up here, how do I get down?" "Maybe if I look cute, Mommy and Daddy won't be TOO mad at me!" This cat is just too darned cute for words, it is very difficult to stay mad at him:

Sunday, Sunday

Hubby had to go over and work on a friends computer, so we got up early. I really wanted to sleep more, but I wanted to visit them also so off we went. Had a lovely visit, hubby had to bring their computer home to work on. Our friend gave me some corn salad seed, so I'm going to sow that amongst the spinach I have planted. She also gave me some loose leaf cabbage plants, those I'll either put in pots or plant amongst the broccoli. Finally got the lawn mowed. Tried yesterday, but the lawnmower wouldn't start. Hubby figured out it was the spark plug, but we couldn't get it out. Our neighbor D came over today and he was able to get the plug out and we swapped the plug from the self-propelled mower and the old mower started up like a charm. We really do need to get the self-propelled fixed. Last year whn I started it up, it blew oil across the driveway. Something gave and we haven't had the money to take it to the repair guy. I've ben half tempted to take it apart

MMMMMM

Nothing like sleeping in 'til about 10 am or so and then sitting curled up on the couch with a cup of mocha, surfing the computer and listening to music videos on Great American Country channel (which I very much prefer over CMT, which chops videos short and when they run things like the top 20 funniest country videos, spend all their time showing 2 bit loser commedians who dont' have a clue to what the video is about and then show only 3 seconds of the video in question. Really really annoys me). Weather is partly cloudy today and a little bit windy. I've most of the house open to try and stay cool. Still haven't gotten any housework done, tho I have been playing around with the colors on my journal. That was an effort in and of itself. Everytime I turned aroun Bravejournal kept giving me a "failure to log in" message. The really annoying thing about that is I HAD been logged in and ad hit the save button and it kicked me out. Then I would spend 3-4 minutes

Almost my weekend

Thank the Goddess, I don't think I can handle another day of work. The slightest movement is setting off tremors and if it weren't for the betablockers I'd be dealing with some serious tachycardia. This is not at all fun. I was talking with hubby this morning trying to figure out which was worse, having Graves and not knowing about it and not knowing what was going to happen, or knowing about it and knowing what will be happening and not being able to do much about it. He said the not knowing. I'm seriously thinking the knowing and not being able to do anything about it right away is the worse. :P So it is my Friday and I am seriously hoping I can get some stuff done this weekend. I've been hitting the couch as soon as I get home and about all I manage to do is get some dinner going. What I hope to get done: Mow the lawn Get the dishes caught up weed and water my garden clean out the cars tend to my compost bins and pile I have 3 days to do this, fingers cro

A very good article

Resarchers are busy saving us from ourselves (and out wallets) by ALEX LEKAS, Up & Coming Weekly, June 8 - 14, 2005 June 08, 2005 The headline practically jumped off the page, its conclusion so seemingly obvious the reader was left wondering how this even qualified as news: "Scientists advocate sunshine." However, before you pencil this as an early front-runner for the next Masters of the Obvious Award, consider that the American Academy of Dermatology immediately blasted the findings, saying any advice that you get some sun is "irresponsible." Then, there is this from Science magazine: twin studies that, in essence, say cleaner air is a bad thing. Here's why: with fewer pollutants floating around, more sunshine reaches ground, compounding the problems caused by - what else? - global warming. So first man is wrong for causing the problem; then, he's wrong again for coming up with ways of fixing it. Hmmmm. Some folks might call this a case of w

New toy

Finally picked up a Tilia FoodSaver. Gottschalks had it on sale on their website, the only problem was they don't accept their gift cards online. The staff at the local store were very wonderful and they ordered it in for us to look at (the website was very vague on details of the machine, not too mention the model number didn't match the model numbers at the Tilia website so we couldn't compare) and we were able to use the gift card there. Turns out the model is the FoodSaver V375 , which should be a good model for us. We tried it out on some coffee beans we had left over and it worked like a charm. We are going to pick up a FoodSaver Store ’n Cut just to make sure we can get straight cuts on the custom bag rolls, neither of us can cut a straight line to save our lives LOL This will really make grocery buying more efficient as we can seriously buy in bulk and then use the food saver to vacuum pack and store things. I've a number of containers in the freezer with tur

Graves' Disease - my story

I've been talking a bit about it, so I thought I should post (from my website) how things all started: In June of 1996 I was diagnosed with Grave's disease . What this means is my thyroid started working overtime and made my body go crazy. By the time I went in for a checkup, I was experiencing what felt like hell. I was losing weight at a rapid weight, no matter what I ate (when I actually had an appetite), my heart was going crazy, I couldn't stand the heat (even when it was only 70 degrees), the slightest exertion would cause my body to start trembling and I would experience severe muscle weakness. I constantly felt like I was ready to jump out of my skin. My moods would swing at a moments notice and my eyes felt like they were trying to crawl out of their sockets. But one of the worst things was I thought I was losing my mind. I couldn't remember simple words, like bucket, when I needed too and had trouble remembering what I was doing from moment to moment. I had f

Blech

I am SOOOO seriously tempted to start my ATDs again. I hate feeling myself slide back into hyperland and not being able to do anything about it. Hubby noticed my thyroid was getting very noticable this morning when we woke up. The right lobe is larger then the left, not sure exactly what that means, the last time I went hyper they grew equally. Need to start eating more brocolli, it is a goitergen, ie it supresses the thyroid. Have to see what else and add more of that. Dinner last night was the rest of the onion rings and I made a frittata with some leftover potato stuff and some of the pork I cooked on Sunday. Quite yummy. I need to put boneless, skinless chicken thighs on the shopping list, I'm getting a hankering for my chicken nuggets using the beer batter made with whole wheat flour. Had to kick the heat up in the house first thing this morning, it was cold. We've a cold front coming thru, bringing a bit of rain. Good thing I haven't taken the window inserts out to

Not exactly sure what has gotten into KiKi lately, she's been down right lovable and only growls at the other cats every other encounter. But she was being so cute the other night we had to take a pic:

New week

I'm starting to feel better, a least fever-wise. I think the highest temp I've gotten in the last few days was 99F and that was on Saturday after being out to the big garden. I'm also getting more energy, tho in short bursts, but I'm slowly making a dent in the dishes. We hit the grocery store yesterday, picked up some Vidalia sweet onions. I was going to saute them to pair with the roast pork, but hubby got a hankering for onion rings, so I did up a beer batter. I only cooked about half of the onions I cut up. There are a LOT of rings in 2 good sized Vidalias. I have enough left over, both sliced onions and batter to do more rings tonight. I didn't have enough white flour for the batter, so I added some whole wheat bread flour. It came out quite yummy. Extra fiber too :D I ate too many tho, I gotta remember that even tho they are sweets, onions still try and kill me. But oh was it tasty hehehehehe Weather is supposed to be dry today, so I hope to get some weeding

The rain finally came sometime this morning. I slept in until about 11:30am. Finally got up, had a bit of coffee and turned on the race (Nextel race from Dover) that I had recording. I am rather pissed off at FX channel tho. They started the coverage for the race right after the National Anthem. Sorry, that is no "pre-show" The dedications, presentation of colors AND the National Anthem are PART of the race and I want my National Anthem damnit!!!!! The really annoying thing is it is Fox who owns FX and when they run the race on Fox, it is part of the race coverage. I hate FX (plus their sound crew is piss poor, I can hardly hear the commentators over the race noise most of the time).. WAAAHHHHH, Jeff is out of the race! Dad blast Tony Stewart! J, her daughter T and I finally got out to the garden yesterday. I finally got those peas in the ground and we got more carrots and corn in. T did the hoing and I followed with the rake to smooth things out and J did the planting. The

AHHHHHH, Friday!

Slept in this morning, it really helped alot. Weather has been kind of iffy today, mostly sunny, tho I thought the clouds were going to drop rain a few times. They didn't. Nicky turned himself into a furry pinball this morning, I think I was being used as a bumper on a couple occasions as I was lying in bed. Hubby says he was literally bouncing off things in the office. He really, really wants to go out. Just one more day inside and then he is a free kitty. His incisions are healing up nicely. We'll dose him with some tick stuff tonight and then he'll be all set for the great outdoors. KiKi got her dose last night. Mister isn't going to get any as I was reading the package and it said ailing or old kitties shoulnd't get it. We'll just check him when he comes in from his rare trips outside. Stopped at Pizza Perfection last night and got their 2 for 1 take out special. Finally I got all the pepperoni with extra cheese pizza I could eat. Hubby got his usual gyro m

ARGGHHH!!!

I thought my endo appoint was this coming Monday. I was going thru the paperwork they sent me and it said JULY 6 2005. Hubby called and double checked and sure enough, it was July. So he fancy danced around them and got them to slot me in on the 21st of this month. Still too long a time to wait. I am going to be seriously hyper then and the fireworks should be fun when I go up against the endo. Hubby will have video rights and I will hold popcorn rights. This should be fun...NOT! At least I'm starting to feel better with the new antibiotics. I'll start taking extra vitamin C and some vitamin E to help finish boosting my immune system. I've been actually hungry the last couple of days, which is a very good sign.

Hump Day

I only have to get thru tomorrow and I get another 3 day weekend, tho it will be a 4 day weekend as the trip to the endo in Spokane is going to be most of the day and I'm not coming back to work for only a couple of hours. Nicky has forgiven me for ysterday, tho the looks he was giving me when we picked him up was pure "You are going to get it!" Poor thing shivered and cowered all the way home. Once home he did better, tho I got glared at for a while and he couldn't walk straight from the pain meds they gave him right before sending him home. They told us to keep him from runing and jumping arouind for a few days. Yeah, right. This IS a cat we are talking about, he'll jump and run as he darn will please and he did so last night, at least was jumping up on things when he wasn't sleeping off the meds. He was happy to get food as soon as we walked thru the door and he curled up on hubby most of the evening and then he finally snuggle dup on me. In fact, when we
