Saw Serenity

WOW!!!! I'll buy Joss Whedon a case of his favorite alcoholic beverage after I get done beating the crap out of him. I'd say more, but I'm not giving away any spoilers.

Forgot to mention

I was in desperate need of chocolate last night, so I made Chewy Cocoa Brownies and oh YUMMMMMMMMM!!!!! I used an 8X8 pan as I don't have a 9X13 anymore (I really need to get a new one), so it was more of a cakie brownie due to the thickness and I baked it for 35 minute. I think I shorted the sugar measure by 1/3 of a cup, but I didn't mind, I like my chocolate a little on the bitter side most times (tho I will never turn down a nice milk chocolate hehehehehe). I also used dutch process cocoa I get in bulk at Winco. This also gave me a good test of the new laptop in the kitchen as I pulled up the site on it and parked the laptop on the bar for easy seeing. I think it will work out well :)

We're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity....

we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity, we're going to see Serenity,we're going to see Serenity :D Hubby ordered the tickets online, so we'll just give them the copy of the confirmation and they will double check it against the number on our debit card and TA DA!!!!! We're going to see Serenity hehehehehehe. We'll have to snake the pipes in the bathroom this weekend. I went to do dishes and the kitchen and bathroom sinks backed up. They drained slowly, so it isn't a totally clogged pipe. The bathtub is fine, so the clog is after the bathroom sink and befor the tub drain. The drain and pipe from the kitchen connects somewhere after the bathroom sink and before the bathtub also. Hubby picked me up a new video card, a friend had nice one he was willing to sell. That did the trick, both the windoze and linux drives came up and are working f

YEEEEE HAAAWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Serenity is opening tomorrow at the Village Centre over in Pullman and I'll be getting off work early to go see it. Hubby is going to see about getting tickets ahead of time. Picked up the 2X4s, they are going to make a good start on the shelves in the hallway. I want floor to ceiling shelving for all the paperbacks. The Asimovs and Analogs won't fit, but I can put them on the shelves next to the bathroom and move those paperbacks to the new ones. Hubby has been working on my 'puter. Windows doesn't seem to want to work, hubby thinks it is the video card, he had to put an old one in as the one I had wasn't compatable. Linux is installing nicely, so I'll use that exclusively for the time being. The only problem is we needed to have Window installed on the other drive for the video capture and editing. Our PVR is getting very crowded with all the Good Eats and Green Hornets that we've recorded. Cloudy out today, hopefully we'll get some rain, we reall

WE'RE GETTING A NEW BABY!!!!!!

Our friend's brother decided he wanted a dog instead and turned down the kitten. The other friend has a cat who probably will throw a hissy fit (yes, we also have a cat who will throw a hissy, but this is different LOL) and 3 dogs, so while he may say yea to the kitten, the concensious is he won't take him. Which means hubby is calling kitty foster mom to say we'll take him. Nicky does need a playmate, since his brothers for the most part won't come in our house to play and with winter coming he's going to be stuck alone in the house with KiKi who won't play. The little one is already using the litter box, not sure how much longer until he is weaned. Haven't decided on a name for him. Our friend's son has been calling him Kipper. I'm currently thinking "Bane of KiKi's Existence" until he is old enough to figure out what his name will be. We'll probably be kicking ourselves for taking in another furbaby, but it feels right to me

YAY!!!!

My new motherboard and power supply arrived today!!!! The new one hubby had gotten me broke and he managed to get me an upgrade when he called about RMAing it. So tonight I should have my 'puter back up and running. I like the laptop, but it is easier to do things like website designing on the big 'puter. No cane today, I "forgot" it :D It was driving me nuts anyways, I couldn't coordinate using it and walking most of the time without tripping over it. I tend to ditch crutches for the same reason when I sprain my ankle. I'm finding codeine is my friend heheheheheheh. Was up late last night dealing with a clogged bathroom sink. Using plunger, baking soda and vinegar I thought I had it clear. When I went to pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain, it backed up again. So tonight we may be going after it with the snake. Hubby scored some used 2X4s on Freecycle, so we'll pick those up tonight after work. With luck we can build some shelves for the pape

RIP Don Adams

Don Adams passed away yesterday at the age of 82. I have fond memories of watching Get Smart as a kid and loved hearing his voice in cartoons such as Inspector Gadget and Pepper Anne.

Monday, Monday

Busy weekend. Spent most of Saturday down in Lewiston/Clarkston after a late start. A friend whose computer hubby had worked on came by to pick it up and drop off a check. She had her corgi, so we thought we'd introduce Nicky to him. Boy, that was funny. As far as we know, Nicky has never seen a dog, but he reacted just like a cat, hissed, growled and left hubby bleeding as he was holding him at the time. I pulled him out of under the headboard when the puppy left (the platform goes to the wall and the headboard sits on a couple cinderblocks, we used to have a water bed and there is an access hole cut in the platform for power cords. Just big enough for a kitty that doesn't want to deal with puppy dogs LOL). He finally forgave us by bedtime. Got to Lewiston on fumes, hit the Safeway to get gas, turns out we still had the 6 cent a gal discount, so got it for $2.799 a gal. Hit Shopko, picked up a small back pack and a courier bag, both official NASCAR items, Jeff Gordon and the

Neighbor brought me a couple more green tomatos last night (the big garden frosted, so we aren' going to get much more out of it) along with some corn. So I sliced a couple and fried some up for me (hubby doesn't like them. Fine with me, I don't have to share LOL) and had them with the roast beef I cooked for dinner. I nuked up the last of the twice baked potatos for hubby's side dish. The leftover tomatos and some roast beef are my lunch today. We have some kind of team building thingy tonight after work. I was going to bake brownies last night, but I was complete toast by the time I got dinner done and hubby suggested I just buy some, which sounded like a great idea to me. We hit the bank on the way in this morning and then stopped at WinCo where I picked up a 1/4 sheet of frosted brownies. Our boss is providing pizza and other staff in the department are bringing other food. I won't be getting home until after 9pm, I hope I can last thru the day. ONE WEEK TO GO

Sigh!

Why am I surprised. There was no mention of last night's power outage in the local rag we call the Snooze (proper name is Moscow-Pullman Daily News). I know they have a lousy record for covering local news, but you'd think that they'd at least mention an outage that took out at least half, if not more of the town for several hours. Even if they put a little paragraph on page three stating the outage was caused by suicidal attack squirrels taking out several transformers around town, that would at least make it look like they are covering the events. Oh well, this is why I won't pay to buy a subscription, I just read the one the library gets daily. If I do get a paper, I'll probably get the Lewiston Trib, if they would deliver it to the front door (I dislike having to hike down to the mailboxes to get my morning paper. Evening is fine, morning hell no), they seem to have better coverage of the Moscow-Pullman area then the local rag.

Lovely....NOT!

Today did not start at all well, actually it started not being at all well about 11:30-11:45pm or so last night. The power went out. It is amazing how fast one wakes up when one's CPAP stops working. So up we got, me clicking the touch lights we have all over the house for light until I could get to the oil lamps. Hubby had his flashlights, which helped because I couldn't find any of the flame sticks or matches! He finally found a working lighter, so we had light (and I will spend this weekend finding all the matches and flame sticks and get them back where they belong). Tried calling the local number for the power company to find out what was going on. It was disconnected. Called the operator, she said to call 411 SIGH! The number they gave us was the wrong one, they at least had an Idaho number, which turned out to be for Bonner County up north of us. THEY at least had a number we could call, so we did and there was a message the power outage covered of good chunk of Moscow.

A bit of mid-week humor

Subject: Priceless A father came home and found his three children were outside, stil lin their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had

and get back to going to bed on time. Was up until midnight becasue I didn't feel like going to bed. Doesn't help that SciFi channel runs Quantum Leap at 11pm, so I watched that last half hour after the the news was over. I got smart tonight, I set the PVR up to tape it. My new motherboard arrived yesterday, so hubby was working on my computer last night. Got it all installed and discovered that my power supply was too wimpy, so he had to pull the one from his computer. He'll see about getting me a new one in the next couple of days. He is going to insall two hard drives in my computer, 1 for Windoze and the other for Linux. I'll be using the Linux one the most, the only reason for the Windoze one is to run the video capture software (hubby hasn't found a good Linux one yet) and my games. My AccuChef is installed on the laptop which is going to stay a windoze machine until all the geocaching stuff and a few other programs are supported by linux. Watched Kitchen

Okay, maybe not, but having 5-6 hobo spiders come boiling out of the inflatable rafts I had sitting behind the deck was NOT a pleasant experience, esp when I'd just put my hand down right next to one. The kid who was helping me is just as terrified of spiders then I am, so made for an interesting experience to see which one of us jumped the higher when the next one crawled out. So we finally get the stuff ready for the dump, the rafts, some old tires off my car, the office chair that died the other day (good thing we'd gotten another one off of Freecycle) and discovered the ground was still too hard to dig. I'd had the kid pulling up my bolted lettuce, but it wasn't coming. He finally whacked it at soil level just to get it out. We'll dig the roots out later. Cleaned up the deck some, we're getting a couple desks that will live out there for work space and storage. I'll have the kid over later in the year to help finish expanding the garden, hopefully we&#

Saturday

And still no sign of the rain we are supposed to have. Oh well, the county fair is this weekend, so no rain would be good for that. I'm blogging from the laptop, my new motherboard is in Spokane, so will be here on Monday. The laptop is nice, it will be great for geocaching, but I like my full sized keyboard, this one is a bit too small. At least I can hook my trackball mouse up to it, we'll get another one for on the road, I hate the touchpd this thing has. Hubby is still asleep and the nightbors are busy working on their trailer. I should get dressed soon and start cleaning up around here, esp the porch. We'll pick our friend's son up sometime this weekend to help out with other work. Hubby is now the official IT guy for the YWCA over in Pullman, we've a friend who works there and she brought him in. I'll be helping set up a blog for them, they want super simple, so I'll help them with that and decide who to go with. I also may be helping with their web

Sneaky, sneaky hubby!

He calls me up before lunch to say the gal at our credit unioin discovered some paperwork that hadn't gotten signed, so he needed to pick me up at lunch. So he picks me up and we head down and he makes a wrong turn (claiming he was on autopilot). He then proceeds to park down on Main St and I point out the credit union wasn't there. He points to Gem State Crystals and says they have diamonds, and diamonds belong in the bank so therefore this was the credit union. He gets out and heads down the block, me following. He then turns into Twisters, a hair salon I like going to and when I ask him what we were there for, he says I was getting my nails done. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW such a sweetie!!!!! If left to my druthers, I tend to not do girlie things like that, but it is nice to be treated to it once in a while. Who knows, maybe this time I'll actually let my nails grow out a bit and stop chewing on them :D

Okay, I'm not going to kill them

Instead I'll beat Eric Flint and David Weber senseless and then hand them a drink of their choice. They redeemed themselves at the end of the book. On to the next one.

YEE HAW!!! It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And my motherboard bit the big one this morning. At first everything came up fine, but when I clicked to open my browser it gave a hard error message my hubby'd never seen before. Re-booted and nothing. Luckily we have the laptop and it has a couple USB ports and I can plug my trackball mouse into it (I HATE using the touch pad to mouse, drives me nuts). Thank the Goddess my new motherboard should be here on Monday and hubby had just backed up my computer the other day and I haven't added anything new since. Tired this morning, hubby had a blood sugar crash about 11:30pm, so we were up for a while after that while we got him back to normal. Then I couldn't sleep well and woke up early. Thank goodnes it's Friday and I can sleep in tomorrow. Since we were up, we watched a bit of Man with the Screaming Brain with Bruce Campbell. Can't wait to finish watching it, what we saw was pretty good. Watched the first episode of Bones , not bad, tho they need to work on it a

Getting too old to stay up late

Hehehehehehehe Had to hit Wally World to pick up a cheap keyboard for my 'puter. The wireless keyboard finally gave up the ghost (at least it lasted longer then most of my keyboards, I usually kill them within a couple months). Picked the new one up for less then $10. It will do until we can get me a better keyboard. Grabbed a bag of Doritos and scored the DVD of To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar in their $5.50 bin. Widescreen, so Wally World does have a couple of good points. Get home, snarf a few Doritos and head next door to visit and for hubby to work on their computer. They'd gone to Vegas for her daughter's wedding so we went thru the pics (we'd loaned them our digital camera) hubby's downloaded and burned to a CD for them. Then we got a call (hubby had brought one of our phones) from the other neighbor saying she needed martinis. So we finished up and went back home and called to let her know the bar was open LOL. Turns out it was her and her

Monday

Most definately a pink flamingo day, really didn't want to wake up this morning, it's gray and chilly and sprinkled a bit. Made the run to Lewiston/Clarkston yesterday. Stopped at Black Sheep and found an in-waistband holdter for my pistol. Hit Granny's for lunch, tho on Sundays they have just breakfast and dinner. Since we got in just at the tail end of breakfast we were able to get the dinner items for the breakfast price as they were switching between the two. Not bad. Went to Shopko and found me a good belt to wear with the holster. Now I just have to find a good way to carry concealed, they just don't design holsters and such for fat chicks. There is one company that designs for women, but their ladies who model are not that curvey and they are all out of waist band holsters. I may just get that article written after all. Hit Costco, picked up a few things. 10 lbs of Hermiston sweet onions, 5 lbs of already shredded Tillamok medium cheddar cheese, some beef base

Switching to plan B

Got the bike back together and took it for a quick run to check it out. Need to raise the seat, handle bar, get a new seat and figure out why the front derailleur isn't moving the chain onto the big sprocket and then start training every night after work up and down the road. I thought I was in better shape then I am. Took the test run down to the bridge and back, stopping at the mailboxes to pick up todays mail and then home. I thought I was going to die, came in the house, couldn't catch my breath and thought I was going to toss lunch. Not good. So I'll slow down a bit, the last thing I need is to get to work Monday morning and collapse in the middle of the office LOL Our neighbors gave us a watermelon last week, we're going to take it to the teaching circle for our share of the potluck. I'd not cut into it yet as it is lots bigger then we can eat ourselves, even tho we love watermelon. It will be good for sharing.

Wonderful, wonderful Bike Fairy (AKA my hubby)

Got home yesterday to discover hubby had taken my front tire in and got me new tires. They are a little bigger then my old ones, but will be perfect for commuting. So I am just about all set. Just need to finish tweaking my bike and put the fenders, rack and pannier baskets back on and off I go. I still need to get a headlight, but I have a few weeks before I will need it. Came home and fixed a pitcher of blueberry martinis. I do like those Rose's infusions, tho I think 6 drinks is more then I should have, my tummy wasn't happy with me when I went to bed (too much sugar from the mixer). We have a teaching circle today, so not sure what other plans are as yet. We had to pick up my meds, so may not have enough money to do Costco and the cash-n-carry. Not to worry, I have enough of everything I need I was going to buy there to last me thru til next paycheck. If we do have enough, we'll go down tomorrow and hit Costco when they first open and avoid the crowds. Got the paperw

Friday at last!

For a 4 day week, it's been a long one. Feeling a bit better today, not so blah, tho needing serious chocolate :D Weather outside is blustery. The 90% chance of rain tomorrow has been downgraded to 30%. Wish it would rain today, there is lots of dust in the air since the harvest is done and lots of farmers were plowing under their fields. Didn't get the house to myself last night, hubby's client had a change in plans. So we stopped off at Wally World as there was a component hubby needed and couldn't find anywhere else in town. Since we were there I checked bike supplies. They didn't have any tires for my bike (I really didn't expect them to), but they had a nice selection of Bell bike helmets, so I picked one up. My old helmet is fine, just the foam pads are disinigrating and I can't find replacements. I'm still planning on taking my front wheel into the bike shop tomorrow and see what they can fit me with. I'll need new tubes too. Stopped at the

Okay guys, you may want to skip this entry

I'm gonna talk girl stuff :D ARRRGHHHHH!!!! My period started today. Thought I wasn't going to have to deal with it anymore :( Granted, I'm only perimenopausal, but with the IUD I have, my period went to this side of non-existant. Oh, I'd have the occasional cramp here and there once a month or so and the odd mood swing, nothing a few dozen chocolate bars couldn't cure hehehehehehe. But it is nice not to have to deal with tampons and such. Luckily I still have a few stashed. Oh well, take it in stride and celebrate the maid/mother and not wish for the crone so soon.

EEEKKK!!!!!! Mouse in the house!!!!

Hubby spotted a mouse running thru the kitchen last night. I promptly told Nicky he wasn't allowed to bring his little playmates in and leave them there. He ignored me LOL. Hauled him in the kitchen and put him down where hubby saw the mouse and Nicky promptly jumped up to where his kitty food was. Hopefully either he or KiKi will catch it, one of them had to have been the culprit who brought it in as I've sealed off all the little holes in the trailer when I decided Hobo spiders were not good housemates. We have a deal, I don't go under the trailer and the evil things don't come in and run the risk of being on the business end of a can of WD40 and a lighter. The nurse was able to find a vein this morning and hit it on the first try, so I was in and out of the doctors office in less then 10 minutes. Since we had time, we popped up to Rosauers to pick up some lip balm. Rosauers was jumping, I've never seen it so busy, apparently they are having a cereal sale and pe

Felt better this morning, so cancelled my doctors appointment and instead I'll stop in tomorrow on the way to work and have my thyroid levels and WBC done. Back on my ATDs today, we'll see how it goes. I need to reorder them, I'm down to my last few. Mentally going thru my clothes, there is a couple shelters, one in Houston looking for plus sized and super sized clothing. I've a few things I'm ready to give away, so will go thru those and see about sending them. Lots of folk who can use what I haven't really worn in a couple of years. Nicky keeps limping on and off, hubby is thinking he sprained something in his right paw. Silly kitty won't sit still long enouhg for it to heal up, tho he was doing much better this morning. We're feeding the neighbors kitties and fish while they are down in Vegas for her daughter's wedding. Didn't see hide nor hair of the little fur balls yesterday, but I removed the mouse corpse from the kitchen and gathered up

Neat idea

Saw a news article about a Moses Lake WA family who decided that one way they can help people in need after the hurricane is to donate their RV. So they are driving it down on the 24th of this month and will be working with the Salvation Army to find a family who can use it to help get back on their feet. They are looking for other who have RVs, campers and trailers who want to join in and make it a convoy . In other news, I'm feeling icky again and have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. I'll have hubby pick me up at work as it is a 10:45 appointment. Been feeling queasy, headachy and feverish all day. The gas station that was $3.10 is down to $2.99 and the stations that were at $2.95 went up to $2.99, so all the stations are in lockstep again on prices. Was going to stop at the big garden and pick tomatos and squash, but didn't feel up to it. I'll stop off tomorrow. Dinner tonight is roast chicken stuffed with onions and garlic with roasted quarted potatos, mo

Feeling better

Fever broke sometime in the night, was down to 97.7F when I checked it this morning. Still feeling blah, but at least I'm not as achy as I was. Ended up in bed at 8pm last night, I'd had a 2 hour nap earlier in the day. Hooked the bedroom tv up to the Dish receiver and watched TV in there ad sitting on the couch was painful. Went to Winco to pick up their fried chicken for dinner last night, that was the only thing that sounded good, even tho I had chicken defrosted. Nothing I had in the house sounded good to eat. Picked up some Shasta lemon lime with Splenda, it is great mixed half and half with orange juice. Just talked with a lady over at payroll, they are still working out the details, but I will be hearing back from them later today about donating to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund via payroll deduction this afternoon. The one station still has the highest gas at $3.10 a gal, I can't believe there are still people stopping and buying it when all the other statio

One brand new toilet later

SIGH!!!!! The crack in the tank had spread to underneath it, so we pretty much knew the answer from the hardware guy about reapir. There really isn't any, so we did luck out and they had a complete toilet with seat and guts on sale for $60, so we got it and brought it home. Can't afford it, but a toilet is something you HAVE to have, you can only run next dor to borrow theirs so many times before it gets inconvenient for everybody. The property owner will be happy tho, it is a low flow (but with serious flushing power) and fills quickly and doesn't keep running lik the old one, so it will put less stress on the well pump. Hubby got a good look at my bike tires and declared he wasn't letting me out of the house on those. He had to deflate one to find the recommended tire pressure they were cracked that bad. So we'll see about getting me new ones as soon as possible. Popped out last night and got Papa Murphy's pizza. We had coupons and we got hubby a Hawaiian a

Moscow's hit over $3 a gallon for regular. The Chevron station at the intersection of State 8 and main is $3.10 a gal, everyone else is $2.95 or $2.99. Looking closer at my bike, the tires are showing thread thru the cracks inthe sidewalls. So I hit my favorite bike shop in town, they don't have the tires I use, not sure if they make them anymore. The didn't have my size in any other style, so will take the front tire in later this week and see what they can fit me with. Tires were running $15 each, so not too expensive. They also had a really nice seat I'm going to buy evntually. It is extra wide, has gel inside and has springs. It's called a cruiser seat and I think it will be a nice upgrade for my bike. Priced out headlights and checked out rear reflectors and blinkers. I do need to get some new foam inserts for myhelmet, they didn't sell them, I may have to go to Shopko or Walmart to find them. The foam is disinigrating and the helmet doesn't fit anymor

They didn't even freaking know him!!!

On September 19th last year, a UI football player named Eric McMillan was shot and 2 men from the Seattle area were arrested after a 150 mile chase from Moscow to just this side of Vantage Washington. The 2 men, James Wells and Matthew Wells have plead guilty to 2nd degree murder in a plea deal. The sentencing will be November 19th. This whole situation is so fucking stupid it ain't funny. They didn't know Eric, only they were looking for a football player to talk to to prevent future fights (said fight seems to not have been much since a lot of people at the bar that night have been saying "what fight?"). Even if there was a fight, then they should have left well enough alone and allowed the law, the coaches and the universities to deal with any players involved. Because these 2 idiots decided to meddle, a young man who had so much promise is dead and they are going to jail for a long time.

It's FRIDAY!!!!!!!

And we have a 3 day weekend. We're parking ourselves and have no plans to go out (tho a little geocaching would be nice, we'll see). My friend's son has gone back to southern California, so I'll putter along on my bike repairs/maintanace myself. I've got a really good book that was put out by Bicycling Magazine, so I should do fine. Nicky isn't limping as much anymore, so I think he just might have pinched something in his leg or paw. Angel was in again last night. He and Nicky had fun playing on the cat condo. Of course they then ended up in the cutest pose, Nicky perched on top of the condo and Angel in the penthouse and of course the camera was in the car :( I managed to give Angel some kitty treats, he didn't quite go running away when I approached, but he backed up as far as he could go in the condo. Hopefully we can work on getting him less skittish. Still trying to track down how to payroll deduct contributions to Red Cross. Talked with hubby about

Okay

Hauled the bike inside last night and started working on it. Considering it's been more or less parked since 96 (hanging in shed for a couple years and then hanging off the back of the porch since), it is in pretty decent shape.
