What year do you belong in?

You Belong in 1958 If you scored... 1950 - 1959: You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in! 1960 - 1969: You are a free spirit with a huge heart. Love, peace, and happiness rule - oh, and drugs too. 1970 - 1979: Bold and brash, you take life by the horns. Whether you're partying or protesting, you give it your all! 1980 - 1989: Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day. 1990 - 1999: With you anything goes! You're grunge one day, ghetto fabulous the next. It's all good! What Year Do You Belong In?

Wisdom of FlyLady

One of the things FlyLady advises is to wear shoes while working around the house. I've been more or less resistant to this, tho I've been wearing them more and more while doing chores. Today I came in from the garden (I finally got my tomatos in the ground) and kicked off my shoes. I should have left them on or at least put them back on after shaking the dirt out. I walked into the kitchen and felt someting poke my right foot and thought I'd stepped on a pin or thorn or splinter. Nope, saw something crawling and hubby stepped on it with his slippered foot. It was a yellowjacket. Thanks the gods I didn't get stung enough I needed my epipen. My foot still stings a bit, there is a bit of swelling around the immediate area, but my breathing (once I calmed down) was fine. I think I just got a glancing blow, I'll be wearing shoes a lot more often around the house that's for sure. On better news, as I mentioned I finally got the tomatos in the ground. I also noticed a

BRRRR!

Got up this morning and closed the living room window and turned the heat on. Haven't had the heat on a several weeks, but today we needed it. My mom and aunt made it to Moscow yesterday, they came over for dinner last night. I'd popped a roast in the crockpot with some salt, pepper, onion powder, worchestershire sauce, basalmic vinegar and some water. For sides I picked up a bag o'salad with romaine and radiccio, made some stuffing stuff and pulled out a package of summer squash from last fall out of the freezer. We did a Cyrus O'Leary's pumpkin pie for desssert. Mom is bringing chicken dinner from Winco for tonight. I have today off, so was up puttering about. Managed to get more dishes done, a bit of kitchen floor mopped and a load of towels thru the wash. Then mom and I went over for a little shopping in Pullman and had lunch at the new Thai restaurant. YUM!!!! I had an entree called Swimming Rama, which was jasmine rice , spinach, chicken and Thai peanut sauc

Monday again, bleck

So, had a very nice weekend off. We did get to Spokane on Friday afternoon. Had a late lunch at the Slavic buffet. We'd originally were going to do Greek, but since we had a late start up and all our shopping stops were out Sprague Ave, decided Slavic instead since the restaurant was also out that way. We'll do Greek next time we are up. If anyone is in Spokane, I definately recommend having a meal at Slavytich Slavic Buffet . Eastern European comfort food and totally yummy. Didn't spend as much money in Spokane as we could have. Managed to restrain ourselves, but we found just about everything we'd hoped to find (with the exception of a couple computer related items, hubby will probably have to order them via the net). A pretty neat thunderstorm came up while we were there, started when we went into one store and stopped by the time we came out. We should have hung out in the car longer, the weather cleared up right after :( Scooped out the oriental market out on Sprag

Hot, hot, hot!

It's suppposed to start cooling down starting tomorrow. We've been hitting record temps for May. We shouldn't be sleeping with the windows open all night in May! Haven't been doing too much cooking, at least in the early evening since the house gets too hot. Last night we hit Winco for a chicken dinner so we didn't even have to THINK of turning on the stove hehehehehehehe. Not sure if I'd mentioned before, we killed (actually not really killed) the digicam and had to get a replacement. The old one works fine, indoors. Outside the pics are over exposed and yellow. So we got a Nikon P2 (I think that's it, have to double check when I get home). We can shoot pics up to 5 megapixels, tho we usually keep it set for 2. The mead explosion pics are taken on the new camera. I love it, we have more control over the settings for pic and the viewer on the back is much bigger then the old one so it is not only easier to see what we are taking pics of, we can actually read

Heard a loud pop and tinkling of glass, ran into the bathroom to find anothr coupel of bottles exploded. Here's the aftermath: So we had to salvage what we could, opening up the surviving bottles to release the pressure and then transfering what was left back into a carboy to finish fermenting. I guess I was pretty successful at fermenting honey and water LOL I'd rushed into the bathroom barefooted, hubby right behind me. He looked down and told me to NOT stand up while he removed a large piece of glass that would have been under my foot if I had done so. EEP! I looked around and realized how much glass was lanched out of the bathtub. I think I got it all cleaned up. Ended up slicing a bit of my left index finger getting a big sliver out of the drain and hubby had a small slice from a sliver stuck to a bottle he was opening, but outside of that, no other injuries were incurred. There is a reason we called this an experimental batch. Now we know the proportions of honey, water a

Okay, it's Tuesday

Busy weekend doing nothing much hehehehehehehe. Did the kite flying thing, got a lovely sunburn. Started on the garden expansion (I really, really wish I'd done it earlier when the ground was softer :P ), bought some bell pepper starts, finally found some sugar pea seeds (and got some from a co-worker, I'm good for sugar peas hehehehehe) and got started on the inverted pots. Hmmm, discussing the inverted pots on another list and someone mentioned using buckets for tomatos, poke a hole thru the bottom and do it that way (the person who was talking about that uses regular plant pots, may look at that too for some things). Sunday I got more of the deck done, makes it nicer to move around. I need to finish moving a few things off to give us more room, but that won't take much to do. Sprayed some yellow jacket nests on the deck roof last night. There are several others I need to get tonight. Had my endo appointment yesterday, won't see him again until November. Fine with me,

YEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The semester is OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Students have been trickling out of town for a couple days now, tomorrow is UI graduation and the town will quiet down for the summer (tho not as quiet as it used, there aer still quite a few students here for summer sessions). Kiki's owie is starting to heal up, she ended up with a bald spot where the fur and the skin under it gave up the ghost, makes it easier to keep it clean at least. Still have to treat it a couple times or more a day. Got my appointment with my idiot endo on Monday, so I've the whole day off. Since we are up in Spokane, we'll try and do a bit of shopping and go out for lunch. I posted a query to a forum run by Taste Everything Once called Talk, Taste Everything Once about ethnic buffets and got some suggestions. Ran them by hubby and with luck we're doing Greek for lunch :D Weather is decent and the danger of killing frost is pretty much over, so I'll be planting this weekend, it will be nice to finally

Monday catchup time

Ended up hitting Winco Friday night for one of their chicken dinners, 12 pieces, 2 sides and rolls. Gave us great leftovers for Sat night. Saturday was mostly sunny, but pretty darned windy so it made the drive to Lewiston fun. Halfway down we decided that it had been a long time since we had an Effie Burger, so that was our first stop. Effie's Tavern is a little hole in the wall place that makes the worlds most delicious hamburger. A full 10 inches across of mouthwatering juicy beef on a special made buttery, lightly toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, relish and onions (had them put on the side so I didn't have to pick them off). We opted for the cheese burger with both swiss and american cheese, along with a medium seasoned curly fries (medium at Effie's is an extra large any place else). Glass of ice tea for me, cup of coffee for the hubby and we dug in. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM One nice thing about Effie&

Dad rat it!!!!

Here I was looking forward to checking out the new Thai restaurant over in Pullman and someone mentioned it is WSUs graduation weekend. Which means all the restaurants will be packed. Not to mention it is Cinco de Mayo, so the mexican places will be packed too. SIGH!!!!!!! Oh well, we'll check it out in a couple weeks when all the students go away, next weekend is UIs grad weekend, so it won't be a good weekend to go out either. So Date Night for hubby and me will be an in night. We'll stop at Winco and see what looks good for dinner. Shopping in Lewiston/Clarkston tomorrow, need to hit Costco and get more kitty food and a few other odds and sods. They do have a new Thai place opening up down in old town Lewiston, fingers crossed it will be open for lunch :D Weather was too nice today. I did put my tomato seedlings out on the deck today, if it is nice tomorrow I'll put them out again. It will be a couple weeks yet before I can think about planting them in the ground, th

Coming up on the weekend

It's been a long week. It's finally warmed up and looks like it should be nice for the weekend. I really need to finish getting my outside work done. The deck is almost there just need to move the one desk and then put everything away. Need to get a hold of a friend and see if she has some lavender plants she wants to find new homes for. Js daughter said she'd heard that lavander is a natural mosquito repellant. I hadn't heard of that, but I love lavender (have several already planted) so getting more for both our places wouldn't be a bad idea anyways. Speaking of mosquitos, the property owner has a pond in the paddock across the way and it is prime mosquito breeding grounds. He has put up sparrow boxes, but the little darlings can only eat so many mosquitos and we don't have enough bats in the area. So he's been adding some kind of poison to the pond and it hasn't been working. I hate to see what all he's poisoned, luckily it hasn't been any of

I WANNA GO DO THIS TOO!!!!!!

For the past several years, there has been a neat event called the Boomershoot . One of these years we are going to go and someday hopefully get to participate. Here is a entry on a Spokesman Review blog about the Boomershoot . Goddess that looks like fun :D

OW!!!!!

Enlisted the aid of the neighbor yesterday and got one of the desks moved off the deck to behind the deck where I'm organizing my gardening center. Then a little later I manhandled the wooden shelving unit myself, PAIN!! I forgot how heavy that thing is. I only lifted it up and over the railing on to the table right behind and then manhandled it onto the desk, but OW!!! I gotta quit being macho :P So my deck is a mess since at that point I didn't want to do anymore, so tonight after work I gotta straighten it up and move the other desk to where I want it. We've decided to go with a bamboo-tropical theme for the porch for decorations, so we'll be looking to get bamboo (or bamboo looking) blinds to hang out there and other tropical decorations. Not sure what kind of furniture as yet, something sturdy and comfortable. Bought some tomato seedlings yesterday, 2 Oregon Springs, 2 romas, a Big Beef, a Super Bush and a Champion. I was going to put them out on the deck for today
