AHHHHHHHHHHHH Friday!

Just realised tho, I've only 3 more Fridays off before school starts again. WAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!! Oh well, just need to save up my time off again so I can take Fridays off again next summer. So just doing a little puttering around today. Got one load of laundry going and a load of dishes done. At some point I need to work on cleaning out the fridge and either binning stuff or hauling compostables out to the compost bin. Speaking of compost bin, I really need to empty out the little one on the deck. Have to see if I can drag it into the wheelbarrow and then out around back. Brewed a nice batch of tea this morning. Used 4 regular tea bags and 2 double spice chai tea bags. Just the right amount of chai spice for a 32 cup batch. It makes killer ice tea. Haven't been doing the Friday Zazzle finds. Been a bit lax on that. I'll get back to doing that in the next week or so. Been spending spare time working on web pages and designs for my shop . Just have to find time to surf Zazzle f

I want to go back to sleep! Got to bed late, wasn't tired. Had a heck of a time falling a sleep and then couldn't stay asleep. So needless to say, I want a nap! Had a cup of coffee this morning and it didn't help at all. Had a decent weekend. Mostly puttered. Finally got the rest of the hallway carpeting pulled out. It was cool enough yesterday to do it. Had to partly unload the one hall book case to move it and once the carpet was up, spend time pulling staples out of the floor and taking up the tack strips. The linoleum underneath was in decent condition, tho in severe need of mopping. Also working a bit in the bathroom. Needed to re-caulk around the top of the tub and replace the stripping that makes it look nicer. Also getting rid of the pole shower caddy. It is a pain and we'll mount a shelf unit at the back end of the tub to hold everything. Will be spending time cleaning all the hard water stains and gunk of the tub as it is pretty dingy looking. I think we'l

Cute critter Thursday

A coworker gestured me to follow him outside when he got to work this morning. Once I saw what he wanted to show me, I ran back in for my camera: A little brown bat, Myotis lucifugus) I believe, tho I could be mistaken. Not real up on my bat species. I am a little worried about him or her hanging out on the front wall like that. I hope it is okay and it just decided that it was a good spot to be and it isn't sick, poor thing.

Half way there

No headache today (knock on wood) tho I took a loratadine just in case. Still a bit stuffy. Wasn't too bad in the house last night when I got home. I'd turned the fans in the living room on and they had kept the air circulating enough to make it livable so I was able to actually do a bit of cooking. Didn't want to do dinner, more like graze. I steamed up some pot stickers and made a dip with soy sauce and sesame oil. I mostly had the veggie pot stickers, tho tried a couple of the pork. Not a good idea. Not a major reaction as I'd not had that much meat, but a reaction I had. ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need to figure out what is going on. I am hoping this a temporary thing as I so love my beef and pork and don't want to give them up. Not too mention make it a pain in the butt to have to cook two separate meals so often. So I pulled out the refritos and corn tortillas and made fried tacos and topped them with shredded Tillamook sharp cheddar. Made extra so I had so

Mermaid or Whale?

This is making the rounds of the net. Probably never happened, but I love it just the same: Recently, in large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said: THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE? A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym. To Whom It May Concern: Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia . Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in

Better, some

Got off work yesterday, went home and popped some AC&C and crawled into bed. When I finally got up the headache had receded to where I really didn't notice it anymore. I think I may have been attempting a full blown migraine. I had been feeling a wee bit nauseous before going to bed. Took it easy the rest of the evening, just did plain spaghetti with olive oil and Parmesan for dinner. Didn't want anything heavy or anything that would hurt if it decided to come back up. When it was bed time, I popped a couple more AC&C as the headache was attempting a come back. Woke up this morning with a tiny sore throat, a wee bit of a headache and my sinuses being a little cranky. So I popped a loratadine in case this is all allergy related and a couple more ibuprofen. Decided I needed a cup of coffee as the extra caffeine probably wouldn't hurt. The hubby wasn't feeling up to snuff this morning, so I drove into work. I'll head home at lunch to see if he is feeling better

Ow!

Went to bed with a headache, kept waking up with it and still have it. It is one of those headaches that are right behind the eyes. Took some ibuprofen this morning and had some coffee, not helping much. Hopefully it will go away. Oh well, it's Monday, so this isn't surprising. Got some of the hallway carpet ripped out. Still need to pull up the rest of it and then take staples and tack strips out. Didn't get a whole lot of housework done this weekend. Oh well. Wasn't quite as hot yesterday as the day before, but I was still pretty wiped. Ended up hiding out in the bedroom again for a while and napped. Ya know, hubby keeps talking Alaska, that is beginning to sound good. Finally made the refried beans. Used this recipe from Simply Recipes . Turned out very yummy. Made a nice big batch, so I'll have plenty for the week. Made some fried tacos with them last night once it finally cooled off. Quite yummy. Been doing pretty well going meatless. I'll look at adding i

Going to be hot again today - BLECH!!!!!!

I Am NOT dealing with heat like I used to. When I was younger, I played softball during the summer in California in 90+ temps while wearing a sweat jacket and the heat never bother me. Now, it hits 85F, I want to strip to nothing and sit in cold water. Makes getting things done a problem. I have to do laundry today and I am not looking forward to running the dryer. I'm considering running up a clothes line, but I don't have the energy today to really do that. Woke up yesterday to find the car battery dead. The neighbors had called Thursday night to let us know our parking lights were on, but we were crashed out in the bedroom with the AC on and watching Darkwing Duck on DVD, so we didn't get the messages until the morning. So we hooked up the battery to a jumper box/charger we have and waited until the car would start. Took a while, but finally got it going. We were supposed to run some errands in the morning, but that didn't happen. We have a friend who is moving here

I SERIOUSLY love my hubby

The sneak got me out to the Eastside Mall last night on a ruse and surprised me with tickets to the 6:20 showing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! I LOVED it. Okay, they did leave things out, added a couple other things and I wish it would have been longer so they wouldn't have had to cut stuff out, but I still loved it. I SOOOOOO can't wait for the final films. As soon as HP6 comes out on DVD I am getting my hands on it as there were times I kept wanting to pause and rewind and watch something in slow-mo LOL. Needless to say, I am one tired kitten today. After the movie we still had to go out and get kitty food (or else we would have been in serious trouble when we got home) and stuff for dinner. So by the time we got home, got dinner and watched a bit of TV, it was 11:30pm by the time we got to bed. 6am was WAYYYYYY too early this morning. Speaking of dinner, I'm off meat for a while. For some reason beef and pork are not

So we FINALLY got the boat into the water on Friday. Almost didn't as the hitch decided to get cranky and not latch. Suitable application of WD40 and a sledge hammer solved the problem. We thought for a bit we were going to have to go out and buy a new hitch. Got out there about noon and spent the rest of the day. Left anything that had the time on it in the car, so it was really nice not knowing what time it was. We decided to come home when we started getting tired, even tho at that point I hadn't gotten my limit, but I kept my line out while we headed back to the dock (hubby had limited out about a half hour before). I caught my 6th trout about 50 feet from the dock, so I was a happy camper. We also caught several bluegill, so I got to use my electric filleting knife on them. That thing is tricky to use. Have to practice with it more. I had 3 of the trout for dinner and pan fried the bluegill fillets and shared those with hubby. He doesn't like most fish, but he does lik

Made it thru the weekend

Tho it didn't go off as planned. Friday was fine, tho too hot to cook dinner that night, so we opted for salads. Hit Winco for bagged lettuce, criminis, an avocado and salad dressing. Went home and pulled out some surimi (fake crab) from the freezer to thaw and when it cooled down enough to think of eating. I assembled salads: For my salad I diced up the avocado and hubby got green peppers. The criminis were a great idea and the medium cheddar cheese went well with everything. Topped off with creamy ranch dressing and dinner was good. Saturday we'd planned on fishing and then going to a friend's for the evening. Hubby wasn't feeling well, so those plans changed to hiding out in the bedroom with the AC and watching the telly for the day. I did get to catch a bit of the Boston Pop's 4th of July programming, so I got to see some fireworks. I made up a batch of veggie filling for some pot stickers, so we sat and watched last weeks race and made pot stickers. I've th

Friday AHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Popped down to Clarkston to drop a friend off this morning, so while we were there, finally checked out a little place we'd been driving past for years and kept saying we needed to check it out. The Jawbone Flats Cafe on 6th St is one of those wonderful little small town mom and pop places that make life worth living. Staffed with friendly people, inhabited by the locals and home of plain, but great food it is going on our list of places to eat while in the Valley. We stopped in a bit before 11, so I opted for breakfast (which you can get all day) and hubby went for lunch. One of the benchmarks I use for how good a place is is the biscuits and gravy (if they have it): I will give these a 10 thumbs up and a serious BLORP!!!!! Everything was fresh off the griddle or oven, the gravy nice and creamy with just the right amount of pepper and the sausage bits tasty. The hash browns were not greasy and had just the right amount of crispy. Next time I will go for a half order, I managed to
