Time to gear up for a fight

Wal-Mart files application for a super center"

They did get one thing wrong in the article, it is NOT the Tidyman's site, it is further down the road from it. Tidyman's and the Alturas Technology Park (which has a lawyers office built there. Since when is a law firm considered technology?) is on the southWEST corner, the southeast corner is curently a wheat/pea field directly across from the cemetary. A Wally World supercenter there will block my view of the cemetary, cause MORE traffic on the speedway (Palouse River Drive, it's got a 35 mph speed limit, way too many people do 45-50+ out there. Just wait til they get eevn more people speeding there).

What I want to know is, is this a ploy to force Pullman into letting them build it there? A lot of Pullmanites have been very resistant to Wally World building there and have been very vocal about it. Wally World went so far as to put out a petition for people to sign saying they WANT the supercenter built. I don't think they really got that many signatures. So, are they going to say "well, you won't let us build here, so we'll go across the state line" and hope Pulllman caves in and let them build over the objections of their citizens. An article in the Lewiston Morning Tribune says they have initial permission from the Pullman city officials, so are they really wanting to build TWO supercenters 8 miles apart??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

A co-woker said it would be great if they put the super center on our side of town, we need the shopping. ?!?!?!?!?!?! We've got a small mall with a couple nice restaurants, Safeway, Dollar Store, movie theatre and a couple small shops. It also only takes 10 minutes to drive across town to the big mall, 15 if you hit every red light on the way. There is NO need to put a big eyesore up on our side of town. Now, if they wanted to move into the old Tidyman's, no problem, tho there is no room to expand, so they would just be moving the store from one side of town to the other.

Personally, I would prefer Cash n Carry to move in to the old Tidyman's so we wouldn't have to hope we get to Lewiston on a Saturday to shop there, they are closed on Sundays. And the area is big enough a nice restaurant/bar supply store locally would be REALLY nice.

We'll see what happens, a LOT of people in town don't like Walmart. What's really funny is that a movie called "Walmart - The High Cost of Low Price" by Robert Greenwald is going to be shown in town next week. I won't be able to make the Monday showing, but I think we'll try for the one at the Unitarian Church on Friday.

On a lighter note, pulled some pizza dough out last night, we'll hit Winco on the way home to pick up a jar of pizza sauce and some canadian bacon for toppings. I have the cheese and pepperoni at home. Hubby doesn't do pepperoni real well, hard on his tummy, so he'll get the canadian bacon and I have a can of crushed pineapple if he wants a hawaiian. Be interesting to see how the whole wheat dough works out.

Still waiting on the kneader for my bread machine. Should be here any day now. Hoping the weather will be nice, have to take some stuff to the dump and I need to move those 2X4s we got thru freecycle ontot he deck to dry. Then I need to start figuring out how I'm goig to make book shelves out of them. I have an idea, have to take measurements. I really should find some time soon to paint some more of the kitchen. I also need to start planning Thanksgiving Day dinner and figuring what I will fix ahead of time and when.
