Costco, gotta love it

So yesterday after work we headed down to Lewiston/Clarkston to do a bit of shopping. We recently re-upped at Costco when prices got to be competative again between them and WinCo for a lot of stuff (not too mention there are a few items we can only get at Costco). Plus it gets us out of town for a while at least once a month.

I do have to say, Costco on an evening weeknight is very, very, very eerie as there are very few folk there, but then again, Costco on an evening weeknight is wonderful and peacful as there are very few folk there. Will have to consider making it a habit of going on weeknights from now on, tho one advantage of Saturdays is the free samples they have. We find some of the yummiest goodies that way (in particular the chicken potsickers, we wouldn't have considered them unless we'd tried them first. Didn't get any this trip, but will definately on the next trip down).

So we picked up some pork sirloin roasts, a couple types, regular and tip. The tips when in to the freezer as they were individually wrapped, but the regular ones were in one big bag, so I will take those out, soak them in a brine and then wrap and freeze them. We also picked up a couple of whole chickens, some frozen skinless/boneless chicken thighs, a big bag of corn, a round of brie, TP (locally made at Potlatch in Lewiston), a bag of the Kirkland brand of kitty food, big bottle of ibuprophen, antacids and a double bottle pack of loratadine (generic Claritin).

For about $16 we got a 180 count of the loratadine, which is a 6 month supply as you only take it once a day. The cheapest we can get it in Moscow is about $8 for a 30 day supply at Wally World. Needless to say, it will be from Costco from now on. Nice thing about this is there is more then enough for both me and hubby and some left over to get us thru the start of next years allergy season.

Have to keep an eye on butter prices, if Costco drops to be competative with Wally World ($1.68 a pound) I'll stock up there. Butter freezes nicely and I've plenty of room to do so. Just put dated packages of butter in a ziplock and toss in the freezer. Take out cubes as needed and it is a very economical way to stay stocked. Next trip I'll see about a big container of parmasean cheese and already peeled garlic. They also had a good price on portabello mushrooms and big bags of shitake mushrooms (I'll try them from Winco first before investing in shitakes tho).

I do have to say one thing about Costco, finding Dom Perignon Champagne on sale there is totally, totally WRONG LOL.
