Damn!

Another good actor gone. Paul Winfield died Sunday at the age of 62 from a heart attack.

The first time I remember watching one of his performances was Sounder in 1972 and I remember being in tears at the end of the movie when his character, the father sent to prison for a petty crime, finally comes home to his family. I enjoyed seeing him turn up in other roles, such as Captain Terrell in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, the Mirror in the Charmings, the voice of Lucious Sweet in an episode of the Simpsons (oh that man had a wonderful voice) and the Rev Martin Luther King Jr in the miniseries "King"

Paul, you will be missed. I raise a glass of my favorite brew in your honor.
