There is a series of books by Alexander McCall Smith about The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, set in Botswana. The main character is Precious Ramotswe, a wise woman who solves problems simply by keeping her eyes open and noticing things.
So far I've read 2 of the books, am starting the thrid and awaiting the return of the 4th when the other patron is finished with it. I'm not reading them in order, tho I did start with the first book, but each book stands alone very nicely and events that affect the current situation that took place in previous books are covered with enough detail so you know what it going on without overwhelming thepresent story.
