Harvest moon

Image
All the smoke from various fires around the region and the dust from all the harvesting made for a very pretty moon last night: Took the pics on the night scenery mode, I guess I moved the camera a bit when I zoomed in to take a pic and got this really cool image while the picture was being taken (about a 7 second exposure and using a tripod): Very pretty:

Blarghhh!

We'd planned for a relatively relaxed weekend, didn't happen. Ah well, we did get stuff done. A friend replaced the rotted out boards in the back half of the porch roof and replaced the panels with polycarb panels that are a nice start to turning that space into a greenhouse. We hadn't planned on polycarb panels, I'd mentioned that I was going to make the space a greenhouse and he ran with it. Luckily he and hubby worked a deal on the panels since they were so not in the budget, but they look so very, very nice. Now we need to get in and build the porch floor so I can get that phase of the greenhouse/workshop done. We'd planned on going fishing on Saturday, then realized we needed to clean up dead boards and stuff and the dump isn't open on Sundays, so Saturday was work day. We cleaned A LOT out from the area behind the porch and got a lot organized. Had to load up the van as we still haven't rebuilt the utility trailer to haul stuff off. Finally res

Guess who greeted me this morning?

The Tig!!!!! Came stumbling out after my shower to get the coffee going and heard a "mreeep!" from the kitty condo, looked over and there he was. He'd come in all on his own (which I knew he does, but usually when we aren't in the house or awake). Went over and gave him scitches: Was miffed when I stopped: He followed me into the kitchen, so I made sure the food dishes all had crunchies. I think he was hinting for canned food, will have to pick some up ASAP. He went right back to his perch and joined the hubby and I while we watched morning faux news, drank coffee and read our respective morning reading on our 'puters. When it came time to leave for work he was still on his perch and didn't look like he was planning on leaving anytime soon. SO with luck, we will have a mostly indoor kitty this winter when the weather gets nasty and I won't worry so much about him.

What did I just get myself into?

Broke down, said I was never going to do it. As they say, never say never. I now have a Twitter account. Actually, more precisely, Purple Ducky Designs has a Twitter account . I'd picked up a book the other day on how to get more exposure and grow your art business and Twitter was one of the very recommended tools. So going to give it a try. We'll see how it goes.

51?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Yup, Happy 51st Birthday to me!!!!!! Hehehehe, body says 51, but the brain is STILL insisting on 20. Ah well, with luck I can get the body and mind to agree on something in between LOL! Not much planned for today, tho a co-worker brought in GF cookies :) Will look at doing something special this weekend. In the meantime we will just see about beating the heat. I love neighbors. A new neighbor has decided that our front steps needed help, so he and another neighbor are fixing them. We all thought they would need rebuilding and a LOT of gravel put down as a base, but the steps are in pretty good shape and they found some flat shale type stones (big stones) under the deck, so they are using those as a footing for the one side. Then he will fix up the steps a bit and make handrails for both sides (there was only the one on one side). Have to do something really nice for them. Have to see if they like trout and share some of my fish with him and his wife. Just one more Friday off t

ACCK! August already!!!!

Where has the summer gone! What summer we did have. I've only 2 more Fridays off, then school starts again. The students are already trickling back into town. Saw a couple of the sororities were opening up. Too hot this week. We ended up with take out from the Winco deli (big sandwich for hubby and a garlic pepper rotisserie chicken for me), chips and yogurt and hid in the bedroom with the AC and Brisco County Jr last night. Supposed to be a little cooler today, but I expect it will be a repeat of last night. Have to figure out what to do with leftover rotisserie chicken that don't need to be cooked. Chicken salad in steamed in the microwave corn tortillas I think. Went to Moose Creek for fishing on Saturday. Nice day out, but fishing sucked. Too weedy to fish properly and since we aren't into bass fishing, not worth it. Hubby caught a couple of trout, one went back as it was too small. He did catch a fairly large blue gill and we kept it. So I did have fish for dinner

Not quite, I was awake most of the night imagining I was exploring Mars

The rest of the tale

As previously said, we got ourselves a hotel room for Saturday night after the race. We lucked out and got the last room in the place for a reasonable price. We stayed at the Spokane House Hotel , which has been around for quite a while: I would call it shabby gentile. It has seen much better days, in fact, way back when it was one of the ritzier hotels in the area. Since then it has come down a bit in the world (the carpet wasn't the best and the curtains were in need of repair or replacement), but the current owners are doing what they can to bring it back as much as they can. The room was clean and the water pressure in the shower was wonderful (considering we were on the 5th floor and I've been in way too many hotels and motels where the water pressure on the 1st floor sucked). The room we had an honest to goddess Murphy bed. You know, the ones you see in the old comedy movies where the bed folds down from the wall and usually the protagonist ends up flipped up insi

Tiggle Fish

I decided on a tiger stripe motif for the boat again. I'd painted it primer white a year ago and finally got around to painting a week ago. I'd considered other animal patterns, but tiger stripes for boats is my favorite. This time around we opted to use the spray guns, so picked up a couple of quarts of paint, one in black and the other in orange. Decided on black for the base coat and I must say, using the spray gun and compressor really made the painting go fast. I did have to get another quart of black. Even tho I had enough to cover the whole boat, the tube in the spray gun wasn't long enough and couldn't pick up the paint I needed. So it took a couple days to finish the black. Broke out the smaller paint gun, a finishing sprayer to do the orange. Took me a while to get the hang of it, it was more finicky to use, but I eventually got the hang of it. Left it to dry over night and the next day we flipped the boat back onto the trailer. I knew I was going to h
