HAES

Had a very sincere person left me a comment on a previous post recommending a diet for weight lost. I don't diet. I haven't been on a diet for over 25 years. I was meant to be a big girl, I have pictures of grandmothers and great grandmothers who were all on the large size. Granted, I probably wasn't meant to be as big a girl as I am, but since I was told by doctors and society that I was supposed to be 105 pounds at 5'3" on a very sturdy Scots-Irish frame, I started on the diet-go-round. So instead of naturally weighing in at 150-180 lbs like my grandmothers, I ended up pegging out at 250 lbs when I finally stopped the insanity. Face it, when a medical procedure only has 5% success rate, it is really stupid to keep trying. I believe that is the definition of insanity. Hell, if a medical treatment is only 5% successful, any medical professional who is worth their salt wouldn't be using it. But for some reason, the diet industry keeps pushing it, to the de

A very different Yule tree

Was feeling super creative and decorative this year. Saw a picture on Facebook and HAD to run with the idea. So here we go: The building materials: Start with the base: Build it higher: Going to have to make sure I have plenty of other stuff to read, this would make a wicked game of Jingo LOL: Add lights: Decorations: And we have a great Yule tree (dead tree edition): Sparklie!

MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a good one. Mine was nice and low key and no major disasters. The only problems is the probe on my thermometer gave up the ghost and I broke a big mixing spoon. So as bad things go, not a problem. We'd gotten a 23 lb bird and since I'd decided to get the stuffing ready the day a head, getting it into the oven was pretty quick. I've given up on find a GF bread stuffing I love, so a friend suggested a savoury mashed potato stuffing. YUM!!!!!! I made a regular bread stuffing that went into the slow cooker for hubby. Kept the menu simple, GF potato rolls, mashed potatoes two ways (regular and the stuffing), roasted sweet potatoes, turkey of course and gravy. Nibbles were sweet pickles, mushrooms, celery and olives. And I didn't forget the cranberry sauce out of a can LOL! So now I have several big baggies of turkey in the fridge. A BIG batch of turkey-mushroom gravy. The carcass is in the deep freeze to be made into stock.

Tomorrow is the day!

Women's Works Arts and Crafts Fair at the Latah Co Fairgrounds, 10am-7pm. Over 40 vendors, food, music and fun. I'll be sharing a table with a couple friends, so it will be fun. I'm pretty well ready, been working on bracelets, so have quite a few. I'll be taking my crafts box so I can work on more bracelets and mini light catchers while I am there. I will have hubby's smartphone, so not only will I be able to take credit/debit cards I will be able to live tweet the event (Goddess, am SUCH a geek!!!!! LOL). I plan on snapping pics and uploading them to Facebook, Twitter and any place else I can think of (Oh, I have a Google+ account, will have to remember to upload to that). A quote hubby remembered this morning: Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise Getting a lot better at the advertising thing, getting over my terminal shyness when it comes to self promotion. Still got a long ways to go, but I am getting better hehehehe!

Fun with beads and wire

Image
More stripped out cat5 cables and beads: Whipped out 9 bracelets last night, these are simple ones, just two wire twisted with beads. These will be the least expensive of my jewelry line, the bracelets with 3 wires will be a bit more money, tho still fairly inexpensive compared to the rest of my lines. Hubby dug me out more cat5 and other cables for me to strip out, so I will have plenty of materials to work with, I just hope my bead and shell supply holds out!

Snowy Monday

Image
Finally have some relatively serious snow. Rum Tum was a very happy kitten this morning. It was also a bit breezy while it was coming down: But it had been coming down for a while: Pretty drive and not to much build up on the roads. Crews were out early this morning and it had warmed up to just over freezing by the time I came to work. Supposed to turn to rain this afternoon, so it will be a slushy commute home.

Getting ready

Image
For Women's Works on Nov 17 at the Latah County Fairgrounds. Been working on mew pieces and will make more this weekend: I've lots of spindle rings, cat5 and beads & things, so will be coming out with some really cool earrings: Having fun mixing natural materials such as sea shells with pieces of modern technology: Still need to get a good picture of the mobile I made. Have to add a little bit of bling to the circuit board. Have to see what I can scrounge up for bling.

I voted!

If you are in Idaho, you get a way cool sticker this year! I usually go in on my way to work, it is normally quiet. Not today, my precinct was one of a couple with pretty long lines. Then we had an issue with my name not quite matching my ID (an ongoing problem since every institution refuses to go with what I have registered with social security), so needed to re-do some paperwork. Luckily I was able to hop the line as the line had tripled by the time I got back with my registration card. But vote I did! Was talking to a friend who volunteers at the polls and he mentioned that when he opened at 8 am, the line was down and around the building. So it looks like a really good turnout for Latah County at least.

Remember, remember the 5th of November.

I'm really beginning to think Guy Fawkes had the right idea. I am getting so sick and tired of all the bullcrap and so can't wait for Wednesday. Of course the election will be over then and the lawsuits will be flying. GAAK!!!!!! Here is a great meme floating thru facespace: At least all the political phone calls should stop after tomorrow. Hubby says he's been getting on the average of 12-15 a day. It has gotten to the point where if we don't recognize the number, we answer the phone and instead of "hello" it is "TAKE US OFF YOUR CALL LIST!!!!" Did that to the DirecTV guy last night, luckily they had an alternative number to contact us, the guy was very sympathetic when hubby explained. Had a fairly quiet weekend, did LOTS of sleeping in, I don't think we got up until about 11:30 on Saturday. Puttered about a bit, hit the grocery store and made elk lasagna for dinner. Took it over to share with the neighbors. compteplated going to the
