Serious outrageousness

Via Dave Oliveria over at Huckleberries Online we get the word that some idiot White House staffer refused to let the family of the late Vernon Baker, Medal of Honor recipient, on a tour arraigned for them while in the area for Mr Baker's internment at Arlington. Seems the 10 year old grandson was wearing a tshirt with his grandpa's picture on it. The staffer claimed the kid wasn't dressed appropriately. That he violated the White House tour dress code. I looked up the White House Tour website ............. What dress code? There is no dress code listed at all. The only White House dress code mentioned anywhere on Google from any credible source was from the era of Bush the Lessor. Not one credible source I can find (tourist info websites for DC) has anything about there being a dress code currently. In fact, the sites where people are asking questions in recent months say there is no dress code. But, but, they were going to tour the West Wing and it is special and

Dinner last night was Papa Murphy's 5 meat stuffed pizza: and dessert was fresh pears baked with cinnamon and brown sugar:

Exhausted, and I didn't do much this weekend.

Tho going to bed about midnight last night didn't help. Just wasn't ready for bed at the right time. Got a bit of puttering about done this weekend. Saturday I finished priming the boat, so now I can either put on another primer coat or just go straight to the paint design I have finally decided on. I decided the snow leopard pattern was a lot more then I wanted to do, so I'll go with the black and orange tiger stripe I like. Probably won't get that done until next spring tho, but I WILL be using the pain spray to do it. Got the deck pretty well cleaned up, put a few things up on the local freeexchange and have moved part of that. Anything not taken by the end of the week will go to one of the thrift shops. Got the AC out of the bedroom yesterday and stored back in the shed. Had the neighbor help with that. Do have to get it better sealed when we put it back in next year, we did get a bit of rain thru it last week and the rug is still musty from the wet. Didn

So, yesterday it was time to go donate blood again, so I toddled to the Coop (actually hubby picked my up after work and we drove LOL!), got signed in and eventually got a seat to get stuck. Things were going well, tho the gal on the other side of the aisle from me was having problems and the tech who was going to work on me was having a time trying to get blood out of her. He had to serious adjusting, but eventually they had to give up and she was only able to give a little bit. I was listening in on their conversation and he was telling her that even tho she didn't give enough for transfusions and such, her blood would be put to educational uses. Then the poor guy had to deal with me. Honestly, I wasn't trying to be difficult. He found a good strong vein in my right arm, got the needle in and *POOF* the vein went a way. Poor guy spent a good 10 minutes or so trying to find one. We eventually decided to go for the other arm. Here is my poor right arm today: So I sw

The rain came down so hard at one point it came thru the AC in the bedroom, so I now have towels layered down to try and soak up the water out of the carpet. I think it is getting time to pull it out and put it back into storage. When the rain first started I popped out, then quickly popped back in to grab my camera: I think it is time to work on the rain gutters! Saturday was a putter about day and then Mabon Saturday night. A very nice evening, sprinkled a bit, but not too much. One small part of the rit was to write down something we want to have accomplished by Samhain. I wrote a few things down, nothing that should be to difficult to get done. It is just a matter of getting them done LOL! Sunday we ended up sleeping in until 11ish, really didn't want to get up. Finally did, made coffee and eventually some 5 minute oatmeal for breakfast. Went to make a 2nd batch of coffee at one point and took me a while. First off I forgot to turn it on, then I discovered I'd for

Was chatting the other day with a co-worker and the subject of slow cookers, in specific my wish for a smaller one as the big 6 qt one I have is too big for certain applications I want to do, ie, overnight breakfast for the hubby. Well, seems he'd been gifted with a small 2 qt slow cooker he was reluctant to use as he is leery of leaving things plugged in like that while he is gone. He brought it in and gave it to me: I tried it out the other night with Alton Brown's overnight oatmeal . A few modifications on my part (a big handful of some dried figs and apple slices, a half cup of milk powder and no half and half) and hubby had a very delicious hot breakfast the next morning. Next time I will see about spraying down the crock with cooking spray before tossing the ingredients in, I had some stickage of oatmeal, but no scorching at all. Can't wait to see what other grains I can make breakfast out of for overnight cooking.

The Great Kamiak Butte Expedition of 2010

Image
As promised, here are some pics: Heading up the trail: The hillside was rather lush in places: Wonder what happened to these two trees: You can see Steptoe Butte from Kamiak: Some lovely fall colors. I can't wait to see what it looks like in the spring: Made it to the ridge and a fantastic view of the surrounding area: The trail along the ridge: Lots of interesting dead fall, this one was wrapped around some rocks: Coming down the steep trail was some very nice moss and such: Not sure what this plant is: The downhill trail: The interesting things you can see on hikes: AHHHHHHHH! Lunch! Tired feet: Signing the van:

ow! ow! OW!!!!!

Okay, in retrospect, doing the 3.5 mile hike up Kamiak Butte with trashed out knees and having been fairly sedentary because of them was probably not the best idea I've had in a quite a while. But I had a good time, even tho I am on serious muscle relaxants and pain killers. It was a beautiful day and I was in good company. No pictures as yet, I was too exhausted last night to do more then download my pics and look at them. I'll have them in the next couple of days. I spent at least 2 hours in a hot bath seriously dosed with Epsom salts when I got home and then about the most active I got was to fix chicken and dumplings for dinner. So back to the weekend. Saturday was spent puttering, putting the new stereo in the can, cleaning out the van and putting the seats back in the van. We were car pooling to the butte in the van, hubby was our chauffeur. Backed more coconut oatmeal cookies for the trip and laidd in sandwich makings for our lunch. So up early Sunday morning, p

A leading light in the early Fat Acceptance movement has passed from us. She will be missed and greatly remembered. FAT LIBERATION MANIFESTO 1. WE believe that fat people are fully entitled to human respect and recognition. 2. WE are angry at mistreatment by commercial and sexist interests. These have exploited our bodies as objects of ridicule, thereby creating an immensely profitable market selling the false promise of avoidance of, or relief from, that ridicule. 3. WE see our struggle as allied with the struggles of other oppreressed groups against classism, racism, sexism, ageism, financial exploitation, imperialism and the like. 4. WE demand equal rights for fat people in all aspects of life, as promised in the Constitution of the United States. We demand equal access to goods and services in the public domain, and an end to discrimination against us in the areas of employment, education, public facilities and health services. 5. Been a very busy last several days. We went on vacation over to the Vancouver/Portland area for my hubby's sister's wedding. She is now properly married and no longer living in sin LOL! Got LOTS of pictures over the last week, so I will be very busy processing them. We left on Thursday and got to my mom's place after rush hour, so that was very nice. She had dinner ready and we kicked back and visited with her and my brother and just relaxed for the evening. Friday we got up and after coffee with my mom, headed over to my sis-in-laws to meet the rest of the family and hang out. Got to see my nieces and nephews (both old and new), my soon to be brother-in-law and his parents. Hung out there for a while visiting, taking pics (still to be processed) and then it was girls day at the nail salon while the female half of the wedding party got their nails done. I figured heck, why not and went for a simple mani: Before: After: Afterwards we hit the local mall and
