Veteran's Memorial, Plummer ID

Image
Saturday we stopped at Plummer on the way to Coeur d'Alene to see the Veteran's memorial that the tribe has built. The statue was created by Colville artist Smoker Marchand.

ACK! Dentist!

Image
So I FINALLY go to the dentist, haven't been to one in years. Not since I broke a tooth, had an emergency crown put on by an on-call dentist and when I called my regular dentist at the time to get a permanent crown, the office manager stated we had to pay the entire amount upfront! We have dental insurance, we pay the co-pay, they bill the insurance and then we pay what the insurance didn't. Nope, we had to pay the whole thing or no crown. So I say to heck with her, wore out the temp crown and have been fine ever since. Fast forward to earlier this month when I lost a tooth. It had gotten loose, but settled back in. Out it came one day. Told hubby after work, he got upset I hadn't called the dentist and gone right in (never mind I did not have a dentist at this point). Besides, I very much doubt anything could have been done as it popped out with next to no pain and pretty much no blood. I don't think anything really was holding it in. Hubby insisted I make an appointme

SQUEEE!!!!!

Got this in the mail yesterday. I'd pledged to vote early and often in the Pepsi Refresh project that Jeff is participating in. He, Jimmy and Junior all have their charities that are competing for the money and Jeff's foundation was giving these pins to people who said they would vote: Voting ends today, so fingers crossed Jeff's project wins.

Okay, I gotta say it...

I like driving an automatic. SIGH! After so many years of driving a standard, which I much prefer, I have to admit that an automatic is nice. The knees are in a lot less pain when I get out of the van and I don't worry that I am forgetting to start up in 1st gear (I occasionally forget to shift into 1st when I stop at lights and such and the Forester really doesn't like starting up in 2nd). Also having more room to stretch out my legs when I am the passenger is really, really nice. The work on the van is coming along. New air filter, oil change and as soon as hubby get the right tools, new spark plugs. We'll swap out the two rear bucket seats for the 3rd row bench and stash the seats the shed. Still puttering along with the house. Need to get some nice white paint for the trim and porch. Also need to finish snow coating the roof. We are looking at snow coating the porch roof also, should help with the heat and seal any leaks between the panels. Hopefully the weather gets ni

More macro challenge

Scottish bluebells: Hosta: Detail of the iron goat at Riverfront Park: Flower past its prime: The last is also part of the decay/collapse challenge. The macro challenge has ended, the new challenge is "blue", so that will be fun to do. the decay/collapse challenge is still open, so will see what else I can come up with for that.

WHEW! What a week!

Image
Sorry for taking so long to post. Getting sick on Monday night was not a good thing and kinda threw things out of whack. Seems I must have gotten too much sun and heat this last weekend and it caught up with me Monday night and I ended up discovering exactly how much I hate throwing up. Needless to say Tuesday was not nice either and thank goodness we had a large container of powdered Gatorade since I'd lost enough fluids to throw off my system. Had hubby get me some pepto and Sprite and I was feeling better by Wed morning, enough to go back to work. Finally got some solid food Wed night. Instant mashed potatoes are absolute ambrosia LOL! Outside of that little bobble, the rest of the week was good. Had lots of fun up in Spokane visiting my friend M when we could (he was working graveyard shift) and spending a goodly portion of Saturday at Riverfront Park at Pride with Ms Ella while hubby was over in Coeur d'Alene with a client. Did some shopping while up there, it was nice to

Great weekend!

Will post more later, I've got lots of photos to process and upload.

photo challenge: macros or closeups

Image
New challenge on my photo group is macros or closeups. This is definitely going to be a challenge since my poor little Nikon is teetering along. I had one photo I really wanted, but no matter what, I just could not get it to focus on what I wanted. Scottish bluebell bud: Bolt on an old wagon: Wagon board: < New leaves: Fading tulip:

It may be raining, but the grilling will go on!

Image
My aunt wanted steaks cooked on the grill, so she provided the steaks and I provided the grill. I was out of propane, but luckily had some charcoal so I fired up the Weber: Of course it was pissing down rain, luckily I had enough overhang on the porch roof to set up the grill and not get soaked. I did steaks and a couple portobello mushrooms. The rest of dinner was salad with lettuce blend, grape tomatoes and diced avocado, along with some pesto artisan bread from Safeway. I did up some homemade ice cream with blueberries my mom bought. Everything came out quite tasty. Since I had the grill going, I didn't want to waste the coals, so I tossed on some frozen hamburger patties I made to cook, so now those are wrapped and in the freezer so we can have quick grilled burgers for a future dinner.

R.I.P. Rue McClanahan

'Golden Girls' star Rue McClanahan dies at 76 I adored her as Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls, but my all time favorite role of hers was as Mother Superior in Nunsense:

Nice weekend and a short week ahead

Had a very nice weekend, tho the weather really wasn't cooperative and all we wanted to do was nap. Did manage to get the house in order. My mom and aunt arrived yesterday. Haven't seen my aunt yet as she's come down with a cold, so stayed at the hotel last night. I'll be having lunch today with mom, hopefully my aunt will be feeling better and can join us. Friday I worked on the living room, got it in pretty decent shape and then we decided to pop down to Lewiston to do a bit of shopping. Hit the Chinese all you can eat for lunch, then up the hill to the Grocery Outlet where I scored some avocados for 2 for $1 and we picked up more brie for $1.49 each. Also got more potato patties for Sunday breakfasts. The onto Black Sheep where we got a replacement anchor for the boat. We'd lost the other one at Moose Creek a couple weeks back. Next was Costco, didn't really need anything, just some chicken, so we got out of there for a LOT less then we usually do LOL. Then i
