Finally, finally, FINALLY!!!

Got to go fishing last night: Ended up not taking the boat out, hubby wasn't in the mood to futz with it, so we were able to find space on the dock near the dam. Hubby caught 4 trout, I caught one. I also caught a bluegill, but since it was the only one, I tossed it back before we left (we have a weir to keep the fish in so they stay alive until we leave. Not to mention certain furry fish loving rodents can't get them). One little bluegill isn't worth keeping. Got the fish home and I had fish for dinner: We'd stopped off before heading home to pick up pizza at Pizza Perfection. Hubby doesn't like fish, so we needed something for him for dinner. We got their 2 for 1 take out, so I have pizza for lunch. I decided I wanted a bit more then a couple fish, so I decided on: Hehehehehehehe! Okay, I didn't actually EAT the fish on the pizza (if anything dealing with the bones would be a pain eating it that way). The fish got eaten separately and I finished off with the s

Oy! A Weekend like that I can do without!

Image
Not a bad weekend, just that my aunt ended up in hospital Friday night after falling and hitting her head. She'd gotten weak while she was out at a sorority thing with my mom, so we met them at Gritman emergency. They would only let one person in at a time, so mom and I took turns going in. We eventually went home as it was going to be a while before they could get my aunt a bed upstairs. They didn't get her transferred until 2am. Mom called the next morning to say the doctors wanted her transferred up to Sacred Heart for a pacemaker. My aunt put her foot down at being transferred by ambulance as mom could drive her. So the hubby and I hopped in our car to go with. We met mom at the hospital and up to my aunt's room, where we waited while they got her ready for discharge. Mom went to get the car, I helped the nurse bring Peg down and hubby took off to get a bite to eat. We met up at in the parking lot of the Best Western and off we went. Hubby gave me one of the walkie talk

MMMMMMMMMMM!

Day 2 of a 4 day weekend. Went up to Spokane with my mom yesterday to pick my aunt up at the airport. My aunt suggested lunch at the Coeur d'Alene resort, so we drove over. Ate at the Dockside and it was quite yummy. I had the penne pasta with Gorgonzola and pine nuts. I have GOT to recreate that recipe for home. We drove back via Hwy 95 and got home after 5. I decided to have a short nap. 3 hours later I woke up. Thought I'd only slept for a half hour, but it was 8pm! I guess I really needed that nap. Today is putter around day. Not much needed in straightening up the house. I'll go out in a bit and get some weeding done and finally get my garden spots rototilled. Just need to fix the handle on the rototiller, a bolt and wing nut came off so the handle is a bit loose. Once I get that done I'll finally get the tomato seedlings in the ground. Migrated my home page from the university's servers. The new address is http://www.webpages.purple-ducky.com . I'll be tak

Going to be a short work week

My mom made it over yesterday. She came out to the house for dinner last night. Since we don't have a guest room, she stays at a hotel. When we have friends visit, we put them up on the hide-a-bed in the living room. Just not right to make mom do that. Decided on a simple dinner. Thawed out some boneless chicken thighs and cut them up. Cut up a small onion and sauteed that in olive oil with some minced garlic and then tossed in the chicken. Let that cook with the lid on the pan a while and then added some salt, turmeric, water and a can of drained chickpeas. Let that simmer while I made some jasmine rice. Once everything was about ready, I took some greens I'd gotten from friends who run Raven Croft Farm and cut that up in slices after rolling the leave up. I popped those in to the pan and put the lid back on to let them steam. When it was ready I mixed it in to the chicken and then served it over the rice. Very yummy. I do need to double check which greens they were. She told

Monday again

Image
Tho it isn't a bad Monday. The hubby wasn't feeling to up to snuff this morning so I had to drive myself in. I am so spoiled, I LOVE being chauffeured in and dropped of, so when I have to drive myself I get a little bit cranky. But today it wasn't bad. I stopped off at parking services to get a 1 day gold permit so I can park fairly close and it turns out they were upgrading their computer system, so they weren't enforcing the parking regs as they couldn't give out permits. YAY!!!!! Saved a couple bucks. Then I found a spot on the street right in front of the law school so I was able to park even closer then usual (usually I park in the gold lot next to the law school where the first several rows are usually full). So not a terribly bad Monday so far. Had a good weekend. Never did make it out fishing tho. Hubby was a bit wiped by the end of the day, so we crashed on the couch and watched TV. Friday I spent puttering and working on more house cleaning. My friend Chri

And we are bound and determined to go fishing this evening. So fingers crossed we make it out. We'll fish from the dock as we still need to do a bit of work on the boat. Added more compost to the potato bin last night. I may have to go out every day to do it the rate those plants are growing. The bin is almost 3/4 full now. Still need to put some tomato plants into the ground. I'll get out and do that tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, I've some friends coming into town for the Moscow High Class of '79 reunion. Even tho I didn't graduate from there, I want to see a lot of folks I knew when I went to school there ('75-'77), so will attend some of the reunion. My friends will be parking a tent trailer in my driveway and it will be so nice to see them again. Haven't seen them in 15-16 years or so. Did ground pork burgers for dinner last night. Since we have limited choice of ground pork at the store decided to try my hand at grinding my own. So we got some por

Mondays.......I really, really hate Mondays

This morning came entirely too early. I was so not ready for the weekend to be over. There isn't enough coffee in the world today to keep me alert, much less awake. So I had a pretty decent weekend, tho Saturday I managed to get stung by a yellow jacket. Luckily I didn't have too much of a reaction. Kept a cotton pad soaked with witch hazel on the sting for a good chunk of the evening, so that helped. I think the farther away from my neck, the less bad reaction (as in throat closing) I get. I got stung on my left inner elbow. I was minding my own business, adding compost to the potato bin (the potato plants had sprung up about 6 inches in the proceeding few days when I wasn't looking) and I guess I brushed up against something with the yellow jacket on it. I wish I could have killed it and get rid of one more yellow jacket, but it took off before I could do so. I need to set out some traps around the composter and see about spraying any nests that might be on the pallets. I

WOO HOO! I have potatoes, plants that is!

Someone on one of my gardening groups mentioned growing potatoes in a garbage can and I finally got around to trying it out. I was given some seed potatoes from a co-worker who had extras and I set it up a few weeks ago. I was out checking on my garden spots and realized I'd kinda ignored the bin, so I went to check it and here is what I found: So I added more compost and water and will let them grow more and keep adding compost as they get taller: The idea is to grow the potatoes up in a small space. So it will be interesting to see what kind of yield I can get. If it works. I will get 2-3 more bins and seriously go for it next year.

I'll be posting some products I find on Zazzle that I really like, esp if they are body positive items. So first up is this great stamp: Body Positive stamp by debburgard Make custom postage with zazzle.com Debora Burgard also has a great site called Body Positive that is worth checking out and bookmarking.

Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore

or order online a copy of "Lessons from the Fat-o-sphere: quit dieting and declare a truce with your body" by Kate Harding and Marianne Kirby . This is a great book to read to start on your journey to body acceptance. I rate it right up there with Fat! So?: Because You Don't Have to Apologize for Your Size by Marilyn Wann as a book that will radically change teh way you think about your body.

YAWN!!!!

And I even got to bed early. A fairly nice weekend, got too hot to do a lot, but I did get a few things done this weekend. We got the AC installed in the office, so hubby will stay cool. Did more painting on the boat. Sprayed on 3 layers of black: Then picked up some orange paint and I painted again on Saturday: Still need to paint where the numbers are now (will do that once I get some stick on numbers) and then a clear coat over the whole thing. Hopefully we will get it out soon and on the water, I am really needing to catch some fish. We'd hoped to go out yesterday, but hubby wasn't feeling too well. When we picked up the paint at Tristate we also picked up a brass spigot and hubby installed it on my rain barrel, so I can now hook a hose up to it to make watering the garden easier. Now we just need some rain: Still not much sprouting in my containers. I've one lone spinach in one and just a few greens in the other: I've re-seeded the greens containers and hopefully w
