OY!!!!

12:30 Sunday afternoon and it is already 88F and still climbing. Never cooled down at all last night. Thank the Ghodz for AC and fans. Currently bug bombing the bedroom, hubby has seen a number of things with too many legs scuttling around and he thinks he has been getting bit. We'd considered the rest of the house, but with friends coming to visit with their wee one, decided we didn't have time to do so and have it safe for her. The bedroom is getting locked off when we aren't in their so the little one can't get in there unattended. Our friends are arriving tomorrow and we need to finish cleaning, of course it is too hot to do so, so it is going to take some time. Need to get the plywood down off the porch, it is holding in the heat, even if it is keeping the porch very shady. I want to pick up some bamboo shades for out there so we can have shade and breeze. Still need to get hubby's AC installed. With temps hitting close to 100F he is more then going to need it

And the verdict is....SURGERY!!!!!

It is official, I have a torn inner meniscus, so as soon as the insurance say yes, I get arthroscopic surgery on my right knee. The doc says I will be on my back, bed rest for the first 3 days and then off work for a week. Thank the Gods I have a ton of sick leave built up (677 hours to be exact). Now I need to delete the genetic Puritan work ethic from my body as I may have to be chained to the bed to keep me there. As is, I am going to be hard pressed to not get up to do house work. Luckily hubby says he can set up my Linux box in the bedroom with my monitor and I can work on designs for Purple Ducky so it won't be quite all bad. I'll have plenty of reading material on hand too and we have TV in the bedroom. Oh well, I suppose it could have been worse. In the meantime I need to get caught up with the housework, we've friends arriving on Monday to stay the week, so I will get a head start this weekend. When I am laid up I can talk hubby thru things like laundry, which wil

Check it out: The Fat Experience Project!

Here is a great new site! The Fat Experience Project "The goal of the Fat Experience Project is to map the global experience of fat in a way that is human, has a face, a heart, a mind, a body and a voice. The Fat Experience Project is an oral, visual and written history project which seeks to be a humanizing force in body image activism. By collecting and sharing the many and varied stories of individuals of size, the Fat Experience Project seeks to engage with, educate, empower and enrich the lives of people of size, our allies and the world at large." The Project is brought to us by Stacy Bias , who is also involved in Fat Girl Speaks and other really cool events (and someday I will get to attend one instead of living vicariously thru others who get to go). So check it out!

Gack, it's Monday again!

Really didn't want to get up this morning, I am liking sleeping in several days in a row LOL. Good weekend (douche bag troll infestation not withstanding) and at least it is now summer. Didn't get out fishing at all, which was a bummer, hoped to go on Saturday, but it was too muggy and the weather was iffy. Finally deluged in the wee hours of Sunday. Of course we'd installed the new (to us) air conditioner in the bedroom. 10,000 BTUs and hopefully will keep that end of the house cooler. I wasn't able to get the board over it in the window completely sealed, so had a little water drip in, but luckily not too much. I'll finish sealing it as soon as I get some bathroom silicone stuff. FINALLY got my upside down planters made and my last two Sweet 100s potted. Of course they went into transplant shock the next day and I did have to pour out half the potting soil to pull them further up into the container as they developed a pinch just below the hole. I am hoping they su

Whimper!!!!

Okay, I'll share. Real MRIs aren't ANYTHING like they have on House . What you get is a big machine that has a tiny hole in it they shove you into. Okay, I knew I wasn't going in head first since it was just my knee that needed to be scanned. What I didn't realize was how MUCH of my body was going in with it! I had my hands laying over my upper tummy and I went in about up to my breasts. My elbows were against the wall of the tube just inside the mouth and I had my elbows tucked in. I looked up to see an opening with the words "laser aperture" written over it. Great, just what I need to see, the word laser above my head while I am trapped on my back in the tiny tube. The tech had made me as comfortable as possible, even offered me a blanket, which I accepted since it was freezing in the room. I didn't have to undress and change into a gown, for which I am eternally grateful. I'd made sure that everything I was wearing was metal free and I'd taken o

never, never, NEVER...

Am I going thru that again!

YAY!!!!

I get my MRI tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!! On a sad note I don't get to see the ortho until the 26th to find out the results of the MRI.

MMMMMM, nothing like a nice Sunday morning with...

a mocha cappuccino and Radio Margaritaville on the telly. Been a very nice weekend, the hubby and I finally got out fishing on Friday afternoon. We limited out and I had a nice fresh trout dinner. Lots of wildlife out at Spring Valley, saw a turtle in the water, tho he didn't get close enough for me to get a pic. There were at least 3 osprey and one heron: He kept making flybys, which was good as I needed to get lots of pics on continuous mode to get some good ones. When we came back to town, we hit TriState where we picked up more spray paint for the utility trailer and a new reel for me. I'd busted my old on last season and while it still worked, it could be a pain in the butt. So I got a Quantum Snapshot and I can't wait to try it out. I've had my old reel since 1984, so it gave me a lot of good service. Hubby's been working on a client's computer this weekend and I have been puttering about. Got my Black Krim and Brandywine tomatoes into the SWCs I made: I&#

Torn meniscus....maybe

I didn't hear back from anyone, so last Friday I called the ortho to make an appointment (apparently something went TU in communications as they didn't have any record of my docs office calling). I lucked out and they had an appointment available yesterday. So I go in and get xrays done, the tech let me see them afterwards, pretty cool, tho the one position he had me in to get the shot I could have done without. I haven't done yoga in a LONG time. OUCH! So the doc comes in and says I have some arthritis in both knees, but not enough to cause problems, we go over what I've done to my knees in the last number of years and he is pretty sure I have torn the meniscus. I have a nasty habit of twisting and turning in such a way as to leave my poor knee in not so great condition (word of advice to younger readers, alcohol and water skis don't mix. Neither does running up and down steep slopes geocaching while wearing inappropriate shoes). So now I wait for the insurance com

New at Purple Ducky Designs

Been slowly working on new designs for the shop and have a few up. In the body acceptance section: Miscellania : Photography :

I've survived, so far.

Had a nice visit with my mom and aunt. Saturday I fired up the Weber grill and frilled steaks and portabello mushrooms. Mom picked up fresh strawberries at Otto's and I made vanilla ice cream with strawberries chopped in. Very yummy. Haven't heard from the ortho's office yet, I hope they call soon. This is getting seriously old. Picked up a 6 pack of Sweet 100 seedlings from Otto's. I would have loved to have gotten a 6 pack of Oregon Sweets, but I could only get one or the other. I'll put 3 in the ground and 3 will go into containers. I have two buckets the same size and shape and I am going to make a self watering container out of them. It is big enough for one of the seedlings. The other two will go into regular containers for now. I need to get some serious weeding done out back, but it is going to be a chore since I can't kneel to do it. I need to get a how so I can chop weeds without too much bending. Once I get the space mostly weeded I can get my other 3
