The year is winding down

I have 8 pasties freezing in the freezer. Once they are frozen I'll wrap them and then they will be ready for my lunches. Hubby has been out all day at a clients, maybe more then one client I don't know. I've been playing door person for the kitties, I swear I am going to figure out how to teach them to open it themselves if I could be guaranteed they would shut the door properly behind them LOL. Still don't know if we are having a guest tonight. I guess I'll find out if and when she gets here. Been listening to Best of Broadway on Sirius on the Dish. I was getting sick and tired of all the diet bullshit the other stations are running. The two biggest bullshitters (I am NOT going to apologize for my language at this time, it is appropriate in this case) are Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig commercials. First I will address Jenny Craig and Valerie Bertanelli's "tears". She is SOOOOO tearful that she'll wake up tomorrow and not think about her weight

Happy New Year's Eve day!

It is sunny out, the wind has stopped and the lasagna is in the fridge awaiting baking later tonight. I made it yesterday, using the ground bison and OH MY GHODZ! the sauce was to die for, I have never tasted such a meaty sauce in my life. We'll have to invest in ground bison a bit more often. I so can't wait until tonight when I can taste how the whole thing came out. I taped the sessions, so that will go up on YouTube in the next day or two. I've got everything I need to make zucchini bread. I am going to take a couple loaves to work on Wed to share with people. I am going to make one regular loaf and one chocolate loaf. I will make those tomorrow, just need to pull the shredded zucchini out of the deep freeze to start thawing int he fridge. I am getting an incredible urge to make pasties. It is all the fault of the people on my preserving food list, so I think I will make some today (even tho I had resolved not to do any cooking today), but I think it will make a very ni

Okay, I am officially brain dead

Yesterday was NOT Wed, didn't even notice the date when I posted :P SIGH!!!!!!!!!! Got snow. YAY!!!!!!!!! Enough to do a good photo shoot when I get to it, right now I am attempting to straighten the living room. Got a sheet soaking in bleach water then will finish the laundry for the week. My wrist and arm a lots better, just little twinges, I can deal with that. Ah well, time to putter on.

Holiday Hump Day

Definitely enjoying the holidays and vacation, tho I made a serious attempt at breaking my arm yesterday slipping on the end of my driveway. Put my right hand out to catch myself and came straight down on it and my arm. Spent the night with a brace on as I think I sprained my muscled in my forearm. Not too bad today, I'll avoid heaving lifting for a while. Did make a foray out yesterday afternoon. Hit Goodwill and scored a label maker, kitty carrier and a laptop bag for my laptop, then we hit Winco for a few things. I put the ham I got Friday in the oven so we had ham sammies for dinner (actually hubby had sammies, I just had ham, wasn't too hungry myself). Finally edited the video I made making the snickerdoodles and got it uploaded to my YouTube account. Found out they have an uploader that lets me upload files bigger then 100 mgs, so YAY!!!! as this vid was about 150 some mgs. Not sure how long it took, we have a very slow upload speed here and it was a big finle. I started

So far, so good!

We had snow for Yule! With luck we will still have some snow for Christmas. It is still out there, but warm temps and some rain is making it iffy. It is VERY icy out there. Heading down to Lewiston today to visit friends and get gas. It is $2.90 a gal out on the rez, where as it is still $3.19 here. Needless to say, it is getting worth it to drive to Lewiston just for gas. We avoid gassing up up here at all possible, maybe putting just enough in to get us down the hill. Change of plans for Xmas day dinner, we got invited to some friends, so I cut up the rib roast and stashed the two halves in the freezer. They will be Sunday dinners later in the year. We also picked up a ham on Friday, not sure when I will cook it, probably Thrursday or Friday and then we an have have for meals the next couple of weeks. Decided to use the frozen ground bison for the lasagna I am making for New Year's dinner. I'll make it on Saturday and then let it rest and meld in the fridge so the flavors wil

AHHHHHHH!!! Finally Friday!

It has been a long, long week. All our snow (well, most of it) is gone. WAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want my snow back! I do NOT want a green Yule and Christmas, I want snow dadnabbit!!!!! It is supposed to be white. sniff! They are predicting snow tomorrow, so we may be in luck, so fingers and toes crossed we get it. Hubby surprised me last night with The Simpson's Movie DVD, so we watched that. I soooooo love that movie. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend renting it ASAP and watching it. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll be happy the rest of the night. Hit Winco last night, picked up a 7lb or so beef rib roast. I will see about aging it. Not quite the way Alton Brown recommends, I don't have a plastic container I can poke holes into, so I will be using the vegetable crisper drawers in the bottom of the fridge. I've nothing in them at the moment and they are humidity controlled, so that should work. I'll be cutting

Scrapper: My tree: Fun with GIMP. What you get when you shoot in high speed without a flash and then run it thru the white balance adjuster:

I'll get better pics once I find my tripod

We made two forays out to Potlatch to look for a tree. Saturday they didn't have many and they all were not quite right for the living room, too tall and skinny. They were out cutting down more, so we went out again yesterday and found the perfect tree. It was a tree no one wanted. Lots of people looked at it and said it was a nice tree, then they would find another to take home. Okay, it is a bitey tree, but it was the prefect tree for me (I am a sucker for trees no one wants), so home it came, sharp, pointy needles and all (besides, the needles should deter kitties from trying to climb LOL). I'm calling it my semi-feral tree hehehehehe. Had to use oven mitts to handle it, but once I got it decorated, it looks so purty: I don't have the bottom branches decorated much, I will go thru my ornaments and see what I can put on the cats won't kill. I decided to do some tinsel, it is all up fairly high, so it should be safe. The colored LED lights look great on it. Once I find

Thank the Ghodz it's Friday! FINALLY!!!!!

It has been a long week, but it is finally the end. YAY!!!!!!!!! We still have snow on the ground, got another skiff last night. I think Phoebe is going to get a chance to really check it out today if the hubster decides to let her out. We are thinking we have to let Scrapper out sometime, his owie is slowly healing, but he is going a little stir crazy inside. We'll see. Finally started getting some decorations up. Pulled out the icicle lights I put up on the one shelf and they were in not good condition. I have to stretch them out and try and get them back into something resembling their original state. Not sure what happened, but somehow things got unwrapped in the box. Then I realized I really have to rethink things, so I ended up putting up one of the LED strings on the east wall and some garland up on the shelf over the TV. Algernon (the plushy stuffed deer head) got a Santa hat, tho I think I will use a different on and put the Santa hat on the parrot. Still have to figure ou

All done

Went to the final, walked in, looked at it and thought, oh this isn't bad, no problem and started writing. I didn't like where I was going, so started over and a third time and then my mind went blank. ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From there is was a spiral into panic (esp when the first student got done and left an hour into it) and so I wrote an out line on a separate sheet of paper and was bouncing back and forth between papers and crunching up paper and starting over again. I'd stop, breath, meditate and write some more. It was a total disaster. At least I managed to NOT clip the paper with F*&K! and B*&^$R!!! written on it. I so needed to swear and didn't think the other students would appreciate me doing it out loud at the top of my lungs :P Finally gave up when there were three of us left and turned it in. Almost took off without my coat, luckily the prof noticed and pointed it out. I probably would have noticed halfway back to the library to get the

The veil of doom has fallen

I am so not ready to take the final.

Save Santa!!!!!!

Image
By way of Sandy at Junkfood Science : There is a war on Santa Claus and it is being pushed by the Food Police and the Powers That Be that claim all fat is bad. They are trying to slim down Santa Claus . Bad enough Australia has told store Santas they can't say "Ho Ho Ho!" becasue ZOMG!!!! Women might think he is calling them 'hos!!!!!!! Santa in England is being sent to the gym Give me a freakin' break. So a site has been set up, KeepSantaFat.com where you can download pics of traditional Santas, get some nice desktop back grounds, shop for t-shirts AND sign a petition telling them to leave Santa alone and when you do, 1 pound of food will be donated to America's Second Harvest. Profits from the money collected thru the store will also be donated to buy food for the hungry. So help stop this insanity and help the hungry in our communities, go to KeepSantaFat.com and help in the fight.

Rum Tum is a VERY happy kitty this morning

Image
It snowed last night. We got about 4 inches or so. He came in this morning long enough to eat and then it was back outside and he was rolling in the snow when we left LOL. Phoebe got out for a few minutes last night and hubby says it looked like she didn't like the snow, tried not walking on it. Once she's healed up more, we'll let her out in day light to check it out. Until I get a current pic, here's Rum Tum last year in the snow: Never did get any decorating done, finally started cleaning up the living room about 3 or so, so that is mostly done. We had to hit Pets are People Too to get a gravel cleaner of the fish tank. It was long overdue for a cleaning. Siphoned out about 25% of the water and refilled with fresh. Probably do another water change in a couple weeks. We'd taken a water sample when we went, pH was fine, nitrates were REALLY high. Changed the background, now instead of an underwater scene there is a desert scene hehehehehe. Hubby had a craving for p

Yawn....mmmmmmmmm

Had set the alarm for 8am this morning, as we had to go to Pullman to pick up a samovar that was for sale. We'd seen a notice on the bulletin board over at TriState and since we've been wanting one for years, called. It is gorgeous and Russian made. We stopped off at Champion Electric on the way home to have them give it a look as it has a European cord and the gentleman there looked it over and said we can get a travel adapter so it will work on 110. So we will do that. I will post pics as soon as I get some decent ones that don't have Phoebe or her tail in them. The minute I try and take pics, she's right in front of me LOL In the meantime it looks beautiful on the buffet and hubby has been looking at websites that give instructions on how to properly brew tea in it. I think we'll be having a proper tea in the future (and a good excuse to look up and make Russian treats). Tackled Scrapper this morning and got his ears washed out. I want to do them again before usi

Her Royal Majesty, Phoebe, Queen of Mars

has returned home. She was extremely happy to be home and let everyone know she was not happy about being cooped up in the tiny box and then a cage and being subjected to other indignities. She started chewing my arm as soon as she could. I am still amazed she never made a sound all the way home, tho she did her darndest to try and get out of the carrier. Luckily her claws were trimmed or else I would have seriously bloodied hands from where she was clawing thru the bars. The vet tech told us she copped an attitude with them this morning, we told that sounded about right. Everyone got a laugh out of Phoebe's nickname and agreed it was a good one. First thing she did when she got out of the carrier was nuzzle up to Rum Tum, who gave her a sniff and hissed. She of course smells like the vet office, so Rum Tum didn't like it. She started running around checking everything out, making sure everything was where it was supposed to be. The vet said to keep her movements to a minimum a

I felt so guilty this morning

Poor Phoebe really didn't like being in the kitty carrier. She started spinning in it, so I opened it up and held her for the trip to the vets. Bad enough mummy and daddy wouldn't let her have any food, then they locked up in the bedroom this morning so her brothers could have their breakfast, but then they were mean and stuck her in that box and took her out to the car. It was good she didn't cry, my heart breaks when they start crying. She did pretty good in my arms, I didn't have to hold on too tightly. She really didn't want to go back in when we got to the office, but I managed. She was one unhappy baby cat. Got a little beef with the vet. We'd called around to get quotes since the budget is tight this month (Christmas, property taxes, etc), so we went with the practice who gave us the best quote. Seems the IV and fluids they give to help kitty with the anesthesia and to keep from dehydrating is an "optional" extra (read: if you don't say yes

Poor Pheobe!

Tomorrow morning she goes into the vet's for her reproductive renovation procedure, so no food or water after 7pm (oh crap, have to figure out how to keep her from drinking out of the aquarium filters) Which means the boys are not going to be happy either, since THEY aren't going to get anything after that time either. I suppose we could lock her up in the bedroom for the duration and hope she doesn't destroy the room (she HATES closed doors, esp if she's in the room all by her lonesome) or raises enough of a ruckus to disturb the neighbors. Ah well, we'll figure something out. The hard part is she has to stay overnight at the vet's since girl kitty operations are more invasive then boy kitty operations. But she will be happier once she is allowed to go back outside to play. She hasn't gone into heat as yet, but you never know. She is WAY too young and too small to be a mommy.

Memories

I haven't heard this song in a long time, at least on American radio stations. Went and found it on YouTube after hearing it on my internet radio station:

SPARKLIES!!!!!!!!

Starting to get into the holiday mood and the decorations around the library and in the break room are helping LOTS!!!!!! The country radio station I listen to out of Halifax on the 'puter is playing Christmas tunes and there some really fun country and western Christmas songs hehehehe. Hit Tri-State last night and picked up some new strings of lights. The new LED ones that are supposed to last longer and use less energy. I got 2 strands of the regular sized lights and one strand of the slightly bigger bulbs that look more like old fashioned ones, tho not as big. Can't wait to get my Charlie Brown tree from the Boy Scouts out in Potlatch so I can start decorating (AFTER I get my living room cleaned and my paper and final done :P ). The snow is pretty much all gone, the rains melted it away. Rum Tum is in a snit, he loves the snow. His ears drooped when he ran out of the house yesterday morning to discover no snow and lots of rain. Poor baby, hope it snows again soon so he can g

WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!! I survived the story telling. My prof says I did good. I took my purple Itty Bitty Devil Ducky for moral support. My throat hurts :P

AGGGHHH!!!!!!

I hate trying to write a paper. It is all in my head and I can't get it to write out in anything coherent. Add on top of that I have to go in tomorrow and tell my prof a story (I'm going to do Coyote and the Green Field) and I KNOW I am going to blow it. I don't do public speaking real well and my brain tends to derail. SIGH!!! I wonder if he'll let me submit the story via recording. That I can deal with, post it to YouTube if it comes out well enough. Paper is due Friday :P Tried to come down sick this weekend. Had a 99F temp yesterday. Been popping plenty of aspirin and drinking tea. Temp is closer to normal today. Started snowing again today. They'd been promising serious snow, finally got some. We ventured out, turned around as soon as we hit the intersection of Troy Highway and South Main and came home, it was getting too nasty. Lots of slide offs, saw one on Palouse River Dr near the intersection with Mountain View. It wasn't there 5-10 minutes before, so
