Fun with Gimp

Image
Sorry, no food porn today. I've got the latest version of Gimp and have been having some fun playing with some of the color tools: Original (this is the raven necklace I got last week): Then I started playing: Equalizing under the auto tool: Playing with the color balance (I REALLY love the purple): I can't wait until I get time to start playing with the various photos I took that didn't come out for various reasons. I think I can come up with some pretty cool photos when I am done.

SIGH!!

Seems our "esteemed" mayor is at it again, she's enlisted the aid of State Rep Shirley Ringo to try and override Idaho Code in regards to where holders of CCWs can and can't carry. Poor widdle baby didn't like the "NO!" she got back when she had the city attorney ask if she could ban CCW in public areas of the city. Here's an article from the Daily Snooze, our local rag: Moscow isn't going to ban guns in city-owned places any time soon, but the idea still is being considered. State Rep. Shirley Ringo said proposed legislation that would allow cities to regulate firearms in public places won't be ready to go before the Idaho Legislature in its coming session, which begins Jan. 7. Ringo_ShirleyRingo said the plan would need strong backing before it's ever discussed by legislators. Some of that backing may need to come from the Moscow City Council, and incoming council members have mixed feelings about the idea. Mayor Nancy Chaney asked Rin

I so love turkey day leftovers hehehehehe Yesterday went well even tho I didn't get the green bean casserole done the night before, everything else was ready. Decided to do the onions for the casserole before I put the turkey in, set the oven for the temp AB recommended, almost carbonized the onions. Got them out before they got too black. So I did up the stuffing, stuffed the bird, sprinkled it with lemon herb Old Bay, and shot it up with Arbor Mist exotic white zin and into the oven it went: Turkey Had a little timing issue with the bird, the internal temp went down at one point, but after a few minutes went back up. Had to keep the green bean casserole warm on the back burner where the oven vents until the bird came out, then once the bird was out, the beans went in. I baked the rolls in the toaster oven, used both microwaves to nuke the mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole: Mashed potatoes Sweet potato casserole Alton Brown's green bean casserole (a little blackened)

This year's turkey day meltdown looks like it will be early this year

ARRGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, feeling better now. I'd planned on today being a total sit around and do nothing day, but my whole schedule is screwed up, so I am baking and cleaning today. Turkey is thawing in the fridge, dripping all over the place. Phoebe has knocked a spray bottle of Windex off the shelf and it shattered. At least that part of the kitchen floor is now cleaner then it has every been. I've one apple butter pumpkin pie in the deep freeze to be baked later, the other is cooling on the rack for tomorrow. I will be starting the brandy sweet potato pie as soon as my unsalted butter thaws enough (I forgot to take it out of the freezer this morning). I have everything I need for AB's green bean casserole , so will get that mostly done tonight and finish it in the oven tomorrow after the bird is out. Still need to make a loaf of challah for the stuffing. I picked up 4 loaves of regular wheat bread. I have turkey stock

Counting down

A couple more days to T-day! I got the mashed potatoes done last night and will do the rest of the sides tomorrow after I finish grocery shopping. The bird is thawing in the fridge. I've also got some yams leftover from last year, I'll see if they are still good, tho I think they might be a bit freezer burnt as I didn't have them vac sealed. If they are still good I will be making a brandy sweet potato pie as one of the desserts. The other will be the Paula Deen apple butter pumpkin pie. Only one guest for t-day. Mom isn't coming out, my brother is going to her place. So we'll be gaming along with eating hehehehehehe. Couple inches of snow on the ground this morning, kinda patchy tho. Glad we got the one end of the deck closed in, from the looks of the tree, the wind blew and we would have had snow on the deck. Hubby's almost got my custom geek cage done for my windows and linux boards. Will get pics later when he gets it totally finished. I now can process vid

WHEEE HA!!!!

It's Friday! Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday Friday! AND.. I upgraded my Flickr account to Pro, so I now have unlimited photos, uploads, sets and stuff. So I am no longer limited to my most recent 200 photos showing. I am SOOOOOOO happy! I also have all of next week off. Still have to finalize turkey day plans. We've got an invite to a friend's dinner, but I also have a friend who was coming over. So need to get everything figured out. Did the turkey shoot last night, had fun, won't win the turkey tho. I had trouble seeing thru the teeny, tiny peep hole on the sights, but I did pretty good considering. Had a pretty decent grouping even it all of them weren't on the spot. Saw some of the targets of the other shooters, some seriously tight groupings. But younger people and much younger eyes then mine. Good to see there was a great turn out. When I'd signed up there were only a few people on the list. Hubby and I

If you haven't read it, check out Junkfood Science . Sandy is celebrating her first year blogging . Junkfood Science is filled with great articles on how the "obesity epidemic" is overblown, how big pharma is trying to medicalize everything to get everyone to buy their drugs. Articles on how there are some serious scamsters out there, many of them aided and abetted by governments and scientists. LOTS of great articles to make you think. Sandy is sharing a cyber cupcake with everyone for the occasion, so I would like to add cyber snickerdoodles for everyone to enjoy: Looking forward to many more years of great articles Sandy!

AAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!

They STILL haven't fixed the ventilation system. This is getting VERY annoying, esp since it is now freezing outside and it is pulling that air in. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! At least it isn't raining, which means we don't have water leaking in around the swamp cooler on top of the trailer. I had TWO buckets out the other night and some of the rug still isn't dry. Thank the Gods the books didn't get dripped on. We have got to cover the swamper ASAP with plastic to get thru the winter and then next summer that thing is getting yanked and we are sealing up the roof. Finally got some details on the turkey shoot tomorrow. ROTC is providing the rifles, match grade bolt actions .22s. Was kinda hoping I could use Grandpa's old .22, but getting my hands on a match grade rifle will be nice. The shoot is set up that the shooter gets two practice shots, then 5 shots at the target.I've never really shot much from the prone position, so this should be fun. Phoebe

Le Frelling BRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to freeze to death and if they don't get the *%&$^# ventilation system fixed I am starting a fire under my desk. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! I was warmer at home when the furnace was out, this is getting completely and totally ridiculous! I hate cold and the cold, windy icky weather outside isn't helping matters much. Had lots of fun on my field trip on Friday, took lots of pics and got some video footage. Not sure I am going to get much video of fish, but I should have some good shots of the Great Blue Heron that flew over. But until my hubby gets my windows machine put back together, I can't download my vid (unless I grab the fire wire card and download it to my laptop). Kind of funny, I was wandering around outside at the fish hatchery without a jacket. Everyone else was bundled up. I finally figured out I was having my own personally Bahama vacation hehehehehehehe (code words for HOT FLASHES!!!!). I guess they do come in handy LOL. Spent a fairly quiet

I SOOOOOO WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

Fat Girls . It is a little indie movie that is showing in LA and New York, tho according to the schedule, there is a showing in Portland OR tomorrow. Joy Nash has a post about it with a letter from the director Ash Christian. Watch the trailer on the site. The movie looks great. I'm going to have to see if there is any way we can get it shown here in Moscow. Maybe lobby the Kenworthy?

Poor hubby :(

He's not feeling too well. He's been feeling icky on and off for a couple weeks now, mostly on. His doc and the nurse have been muttering about the Norwalk virus. After reading up on it, sounds like he might have a touch of it. Not sure what he can do about, except treat the symptoms and hope it finally goes away. Between it and his back giving him grief today, I ended up driving into work. Didn't have enough cash for a gold permit, had to settle for red and ended up parking out behind the Dome this morning. They really need to turn the one lot next to the law library back into red from gold. That lot is never full. I guess there are still LOTS of yearly gold permits available that people aren't buying them, tho they put them back on sale, tho it isn't enough of a discount to really make buying one tempting. Luckily I found a closer parking spot behind the law school after lunch. I'd popped home to see how hubby was doing. I fixed him soup and then inhaled a cou

GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!!!!!!

Verdict is back in the Fred Russell trial . Guilty on all 3 counts of vehicular homicide and 3 counts of vehicular assault. YES!!!!!! Granted there are going to be appeals, but I am hoping he will be behind bars were his sorry ass should have been all this time. Now with luck the families of his victims and the survivors will be able to have some closure. For anyone who isn't familiar with the story, here are previous posts: We interupt your regularly scheduled blog hopping.... OH JESUS TAP-DANCING CHRIST! Final lesson: YOU DRINK! YOU DRIVE! I've not posted any kitty photos in a while:

Not so bad today

Yesterday was definitely a Monday. I swear, every DVD I had to retrieve for a patron was on the bottom &%^$%# shelf! BLECH! But as I mentioned in yesterday's post, at least we now have heat at home. I spent a bit of time last night making sure I got the programming on the new thermostat correct. It has a copy function that will let me copy Monday's programming to the rest of the week. Took me a while to get that one figured out. Still had problems copying Saturday's programming to Sunday, ended up programming Sunday separately. The thermostat might be pricey, but it will help save money in the long run. No having to get up out of bed at 2am to turn the heat down on a manual thermostat. Plus it has a vacation function that will override the programming for up to 29 days, so no having to reprogram everything or let it heat up a house that only the cats are in. I have decided that when I have two full cups of coffee in the morning, stopping and getting a 20 oz double shot

I..HATE...MONDAYS!!!!!

Good news is we now have a functioning furnace. The thermostat was on the fritz. A new $150 programmable thermostat later, we have heat. The other good news is they finally got hot water back on in the building. Now if they would just fix the &%^$%# heating/vent systems I can go back to not freezing to death at work. I am so tempted to bring in one of the kerosene heaters and fire that up LOL.

Oh, FRIBBLE!

The bad news: the furnace is definitely on the fritz. Worse news: since we decided not to call the repair guy in as an emergency, it is going to be Monday morning before he comes out. The good news: that new kerosene heater is WONDERFUL. We had the living room nice and toasty last night and once we get the back door and bedroom window sealed up, the rest of the house should be just as toasty. At least the day time temps will not be too bad and it will only be for a couple of days. Have to break out the humidifiers to put some moisture into the air to make the heating a bit more efficient. It is amazing how dry the air gets in that place. Managed to have all 4 kitties in again last night. Even managed to have all 4 kitties on the bed at one point. I was a bit fearful that Nicky would notice Scrapper and go ballistic, esp since Scrapper was curled up right next to me, but he either didn't see him or just ignored him. Still haven't gotten the results back on my magnification mammo

Happy Día de los Muertos!

I've been reading more about this holiday and finding it a neat way of dealing with death and the passing of ones loved ones. Some sadness, but lots of happy celebrations of the person's life. Hope everyone had a nice Halloween. As usual, no little ghosts, goblins, pirates or fairy princesses out our way. WAAHHHHH!!!!!!! I haven't given out trick or treats in so long I've forgotten how it is done. SNIFF!!!!!!! Actually had al1 4 kitties in the house last night, tho Scrapper wanted out 10 minutes after coming in. I put my foot down and told him he was staying in and spending the evening with the whole family. So he settled himself into the penthouse of the kitty condo for the night. Nicky isn't stalking and pouncing on him quite as often, so maybe he's finally learning Scrapper is here to stay. Phoebe is getting so big, tho she still isn't jumping up high to get to places. She's work out a way to climb up on other things to get to where she wants (usually
