Fat stuff round up

The 6th edition of Big Fat Carnival is up. Some very interesting articles.

Kate Harding at Shapely Prose has a slideshow illustrating how ridiculous the BMI is.

There's been some discussion on the Fatosphere regarding the fact that people have no clue of what fat actually looks like. A number of people have pointed out in books where a character has been describes as so fat they can't move, their eyes were buried in folds of fat, etc. Then the author drops the bomb, said character was around 200 lbs?!?!?!?! I've read about actresses who've shown up for auditions who were told they were too small, they were casting a truly fat character who weighted almost 250 lbs. Said actress was seriously amused since she weighted 250+, but the casting agent hadn't a clue WHAT FAT REALLY LOOKS LIKE.

So last week The Rotund had people guess what her weight was. While I was within a half inch on her height, I was low on her weight. I'd figured she weighed less then I did. Shows that even fat chicks are terrible in guessing weights.

So on that note, here is a pic from last summer of me. Can you guess what my height and weight is?

Hey, Babygirl, U gotz a shayp! Hehehehehe...

I'm even worse at guessing height and weight than I am at guessing age. It's just not an important factor in who the person is. If you feel comfortable inside your own skin, you don't need anyone else telling you what you should look like.

Would be nice if society in general would have the view point. Until we get it thru people's heads that people come in every size and shape, just like skin colors, people will be telling other's how they should look.

It is sad to read about 4 year old girls who fear getting fat and won't eat. They are constantly bombarded with pics showing "fat" celebs, who actually are underweight or normal weight, so standing up and showing that people come in diverse sizes and shapes and that one is okay that way is going to be an on going thing.
