Semi-busy Saturday

We have hubby's Minion over. He came over last night to watch the new Doctor Who and then stay the night. He's hubby's Evil Genius in Training. So I made Taco Soup in the crockpot. I have a friend of mine over also, so we had a nice evening. The Minion is about 13, so we did have to explain a lot of concepts and the history of Dr Who. This morning I made pancakes with gluten free flour using a modified recipe out of my 1950s Betty Crocker cookbook (slightly different amounts f things, I didn't care for the origianl measurements). Came out very yummy, I used Bob's Red Mill GF flour. Have to see if the Coop has similar flour in bulk so I can start using it in more of my recipes. I think it will make a killer crepes as it has a vry nice nutty flavor to it. We finally got the new chop saw set up, it is going to do the trick. I can't wait to start working on stuff. Finally finished moving my compost pile over. I also added all the ashes from the charcol grill and th

I am so looking forward to her second book, from reading the first chapter of "From Hell to Breakfast" it is going to be as entertaining as the first.

Survived!

Gave my presentation last night and everyone including the instructor says I did great. Personally I don't think so, but I'll take their word for it. One gal said I didn't stutter, which surprised me as I thought I had. I normally don't stutter unless I am stressed and I was one stress puppy last night. I did take my ninja Devil Ducky with me for moral support and that did help. I got lost a couple of times and had a heck of a time reading my notes. I really have to get new glasses. Next presentation isn't for a couple weeks, so I have some time to calm down before I do the panic thing again. Paper I am reading for it is called "In defense of the 70s", about archeaology theory and practice during the 1970s. Should be fun. Since I didn't have a clue as to what I was going to do for dinner last night (I was too busy spending the weekend and yesterday stressing out about the presentation) beyond doing something with chicken, we hit Mickey D's and got

Saturday adventures

So we decide to head down to Lewiston/Clarkston for a day of shopping. We thought it was going to be a quick trip down and back. Right. We stop at the Cenex to get enough gas to get us downthere when we discovered hubby didn't have his wallet. So we head home and then spend an hour looking for it. I was out checking the car every 15 minutes when I wasn't tearing up the house. Finlly hubby finds it, under my keyboard on top of my computer. SIGH! So we hop back in the car and get gas and off we go. Only to end up stopping 3 times to reattach the bloasted bug shield on the front of the car because one end kept popping off. We finally said the heck with it and took the whole thing off. We figured this was the Dieties way of making sure we weren't where we were supposed to be at a certain time. A simple "have us sleep in a lot longer" would have sufficed. So we finally make it down and stop off at RadShack so hubby can look at portable scanners (one with a NASCAR funct

Thank the Goddess it's Friday!

Almost started out as a good day, but apparently I forgot to put the carafe back in the coffee maker when I set it up last night, so we had coffee EVERYWEHRE! Luckily I had two cups from yesterday in the microwve so we where able to get some caffeine. Needless to say, hubby declared today coconut mocha day, so we stopped at Coffee Creations on the way to work and each got a double shot coconut mocha (mine with whipped cream MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!). No rain scheduled for today, so it will be nice. Last night we had some lightning and more rain. We hit the chinese buffett for dinner as hubby was in the mood for a chinese feed and I didn't feel like cooking. We noticed the light outside got really neat, so I popped out to get some pics. I hope they come out as there was a really neat rainbow. I decided to some kind of powerpoint presentation for my report, with my social phobia I think it would be good if I have the audience focused on the screen and not on me while I talk. That way I

Almost there (I gotta get more creative with post titiles)

We finally had some decent rain, we had a river running down the road out from of the house this morning. I finally remembered I'd gotten a light weight raincoat at Ross right after they opened, had to excavate the front clost to find it. I think it is time to declutter the closet. Sun is out now, hopefully we'll have a couple days of nice weather as we need to get the shed organized and the deck cleared off and ready for winter. Not too mention I really need to start work on the cold frames. Saturday is Mabon, so I need to come up with something yummy to take. I have the recipe for green tomato salsa my thereapist sent me, so will look at making that. We want to pop down to Lewiston Sat monring to hit Costco and a bit of other shopping. I'm right out of kitty crunchies, so kitties have been getting canned food (not that they are complaining LOL). I also need a few more items such as feta, other cheese and chicken. I've run out of big mason jars, have to see about getti

Ketchup time

It is finally raining, not real heavy only a light drizzle so far. With luck we'll get lots more soon, it is nice to finally be able to breathe without all the smoke in the air. Class is going fine, I'm actually starting to understand some of what I am reading. I'm so not looking forward to giving my presentation on the article I've chosen, but am giving serious consideration of a crash course in powerpoint so they are looking at the screen and not me LOL. It doesn't have to be long, 10-15 minutes with a few minutes of Q&A so we'll see. Weekend was entirely too short. Having the furnace on the fritz didn't help at all. We found a burnt wire and replaced it, but that didn't fix it, so we had to have the repair guy in anyways. Turns out there were about 5-6 more wires and a fried sequencer that had to be replaced. So this monring we woke up to a warm toasty house and a very quiet furnace. Luckily we did have the Dragon for most of the weekend, tho I di

Fat! Fit? Fabulous! Meet the East Bay activists and researchers at the center of the new civil-rights movement known as Health at Every Size. By Lauren Gard The last thing Lake Merritt pedestrians expected to see on a recent Thursday afternoon was a fat, vibrant woman inviting them to step onto a scale. "Would you like a free compliment?" Marilyn Wann called out to a group of teenage girls on the concrete path. She motioned to the scale, which she'd covered with pink paint and sparkly silver paper. Silver pipe cleaners across the bottom spelled "YAY!" A lanky girl with long braids pulled into a ponytail eyed the glittery object with suspicion. "I do not need to know my weight," she said defiantly. "Oh, this won't give you a number, only a compliment," Wann said, her vintage aluminum-framed glasses glinting in the sunlight. "What is it?" the girl asked. "It's a Yay Scale." The girl squinted at it for a moment, still

Puttering, puttering

The weather is heading for fall, I'm closing most of the windows at night and I may have to build a greenhouse around my tomatos. I had them covered with sheets last night, but I don't think that was enough. So I'll look at all the window panels I have and see what I can come up with. I plan on those things ripening and not freezing dad rat it! Yesterday was definately a Monday, I forgot to uncover my tomatos and had to email hubby to do it. Then when I got to work I realized I'd fixed my coffee and proceeded to leave it on the counter. Hubby enjoyed it at least. I brought leftovers from Sunday night and while yummy, not enough. I'd diced up some boneless, skinless chicken breats I had brined and froze and then used a packet of fajita seasoning. For dinner I used corn torillas I steamed int he mocrowave and then topped with cheese, mozzarella for him, feta for me. For lunch I brought a couple flour torillas, feta, the chicken and a tomato. No more visits with my men

Always Remember

I so need a nap

It is a sleepy day and I still have lots to do. I have managed to get a few things accomplished, the least of which is the kitchen is cleaned and better organized. Did pancakes for breakfast, the electric griddle we got at a yard sale was well worth the $4 we paid for it. Gave the blender and electric can opener to our neighbors, so I just need to find a new home for the air popcorn popper. I'm currently working on the living room, dragged out the winter bedspread to cover the couch with, I was getting sick of the green the couch is covered with. I really need to get more fiber fill and stuff the futon, its looking flat and sad. I processed the rest of the Walla Wallas yesterday, I had 4 trays worth to dry and the rest I sliced, baggied and froze. 5 baggies worth. Today I combined the 4 trays into one and have a tray of cherry tomatos (or possibly Sweet 100s, I'm not sure) my neighbor brought me drying as I write. Still have some squash to slice and that will fill the last two

Not as young as I used to be

Ick! Sitting here with a minor headache. I guess it could be worse, it could be a major headache. So we had a nice romantic evening in, did rum and cokes, picked up a much better grade of porn flick from a local lingerie/adult toy store then what the local video places rent. Picked up nibbly foods and had a very enjoyable evening. I got nice and tipsy over totally hmmered, just can't drink the way I used to. Put the 3 tiered cart back together for use and it worked great. I'll get pics of it posted later. Slept in this morning, had to pop out to drop off the scans and totally forgot to tell them the name of the person picking them up. I can't get hold of her OR the studio to get it straightened out, but they do have my phone number, so hopefully they will call if there are any problems. Hubby's off working on a clients computer, he has another clint tomorrow, so I'm attempting to do some housework. I've accomplished one load of dishes, luckily there aren't m

An activism opportunity

Stacy Bias , founder of FatGirl Speaks is putting together a book and is looking to interview fat women about their experiences. The book "will consist of a series of monologues suitable for stage performance, all around the topic of fat. Bias intends to interview 150+ women of size, all across the United States, and in Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, Samoa, Asia, India and South America." So all you fat chicks out there, check out her site for more info on the project and how to contact her if you are interested in being interviewed for the project.

Wheee HAW!!! FRIDAY!!!!!

Image
And a payday Friday at that. Not too much planned this weekend, have to take some scans to a photography studio to have them printed out. Our dean is retiring and the photos for the rememberance book had been forgotten until the last minute. Since I managed to get talked into being on the new social committee AND got the photographer position I said I'd get those together. I tell you, going thru the scrap books can make a person feel old, esp all the photos from before the remodel. But I did find a few good ones, loaded GIMP (a nice, free photo editor, like Photoshop, only FREE), had someone in Special Collections (where we have the photos stored) scan them for me so I could download them to my computer and went to town. I'm just waiting for someone to look at them and help decide which ones to print. While going thru the scrap books I found a blast from the recent past: I'm not exactly sure how long ago this pic was taken, but it was definately around Christmas within the

Cats seized from Voice of the Animals sanctuary This is what really got me about the story: "The Humane Society inspected the property a year ago and found hundreds of cats living in as many as nine trailer homes. Nearly all of the trailers were in severe disrepair and only one of them had running water, according to the October 2005 inspection report. Excrement was accumulating on floors and smeared on walls in some of the units. Inhabiting the trailers were scores of cats stricken with fleas, ringworm lesions and upper respiratory ailments, the report said. Deputy Prosecutor Louis Marshall said the county and Humane Society had no reason to believe conditions had improved during the 11 months since the Humane Society inspection." The Humane Society KNEW a year ago the conditions there were appalling yet DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT THEN!!!!! WHAT THE &%^$#!!!!!! Those poor kitties, if you can't take care of the critters properly, then don't! Find another orga

Follow the money

So who is sponsoring the 10th International Congress on Obesity 2006? A whole lotta companies with a vested interest in selling things to fat people to try and make them thin (most with a very miserable success rate. There is no profit in people who actually like themselves, so these companies have to come up with epidemics and pandemics to panic people in to buying their crap. Here's a tidbit, everyone in the world is now "pre-hypertensive" and "pre-diabetic" since the drug companies are now trying to get people who don't have these problems onto medications so they can sell more.

Survived the 3 day weekend, managed to put a metal splinter into my right thumb and burned my left pinky on the stove. I was taking apart a 3 tiered metal cart we scored at a yard sale on Sat to sand and paint it and the screws were soft and I managed to pull up splinters and promptly put one in my thumb. Hubby finally dug out the cordless drill and helped get the blasted thing apart. It was originally white, someone painted it pepto bismal pink and then yellow, using latex, that was fun trying to strip off. Managed to get the rust off and it scuffed enough to paint and went after it with the Ace version of rustoleum spray enamal, in white. It is going to look great when I get it back together. Now I just need to find something to spruce up the chrome handles. Scored some cucumbers from a friend on Sunday. So those I sliced and pickled some in a half gal mason jar in the fridge. The rest I have in the dehydrator. Those I sliced and diced to put in dips and sprinkle on salads. I also ra

At the rate I am going I don't think I'm going to get any painting done, not if I still want to go fishing at some point. Yesterday we went down to Lewiston for some shopping and then drove up the Snake past Asotin to Buffalo Eddy where I got some great snake pics: Not exactly sure what kind it was, we googled snakes and we think it is a Bull Snake. Got back late and watched the telly and had dinner of leftover Nachos Grande I made with ground turkey in place of ground beef Friday night. This morning we slept in and I finally got up and put the ham in the oven. With luck it will be done before it gets too terribly hot in here. I'm heading out to friends later today for a BBQ, hubby might not go as he's still feeling a bit ick from al the activity of yesterday. So tomorrow is our last chance this weekend to go fishing, so we'll see. If we don't I will working on painting more of the kitchen. The rest of today is putter around the house abd the porch. We hauled al

LINUX!

The hubby has me set up with the linux distro ubuntu, so I don't have to use Windows for a lot of stuff. I will have to keep it for Diablo II and AcuChef, but that isn't a problem. Ubuntu has lots of ways to customize it to my tastes, so I'm going to have fun. Here's a Gazoo for all you BlogAzoo surfers :)

ARRRGHHHH!!!!!

Had to cover my tomatos last night. Night before it got a wee bit chilly (in the low 40s) and it nipped a couple of the plants. Not badly, some shrivelled leaves and flowers, but the tomatos are fine and slowly turning red. I'll cover them again tonight and possibly Sat night. Starting Sunday we'll be back to warmer temps. If I have to, I'll build a frame around the whole thing and use the window panes I have to make a greenhouse until I get the harvest in. Fingers crossed I won't have to get that elaborate. I do need to start getting cold frames figured out and get them built. I'm definatley going to try growing bok choi and some lettuce greens. I'll also try for spinach again. Not sure if I'd have time for brocolli. I need to sit down with the book I got and see what the author recommends. Looking forward to a 3 day weekend, if I'd been smart I would have taken today off to for 4 days off. Oh well. We'd hoped to go camping, but decided we didn'
