New look

Sort of. I converted my blogs over to the new beta, so now this one and both cooking blogs are all on beta. I'll probably be deleting Cooking with JeanC sometime in the near future once I decide I want to do that for sure. I like the fact we can put tags on the posts, tho with almost a 1000 posts that is going to take a while going back thru them. I'll probably just do the ones with recipes and such.

Busy weekend and not nearly long enough!

Image
I've definately been spoiled with my summers of 3 day weekends. Didn't do a whole lot, did get some pics of my tomatos: I saw a tinge of red on the one roma, so fingers crossed I'll have LOTS of ripe tomatos this weekend. I processed some more walla walla sweets. I sliced and rough chopped a bunch and have 4 sandwich baggies of them in the freezer. I put up a half gallon mason jar of pickled onions in the fridge for hubby. I still have about a third of the sack left to process. I'll drop more in the dehydrator, probably tomorrow night after work. I dried a couple more zucchini and some cherry tomatos yesterday. I need to see about getting more olive oil so I can store some of my tomatos in oil in the fridge to make them extra special. Still have some yellow squash to process, not sure if I'll dry them or just cut and freeze them. We drove down to Lewiston on Saturday, gassed up at Costco for $2.96 a gal (we're about 10-20 cents more a gallon up here) and picked

Scenes from a hospital waiting room

Image
While I was waiting for hubby to get out of surgery I did a bit of homework in the waiting room, so got a few pics. I decied to not get any pics of hubby either before or after, sincehe'd kill me if I posted them LOL. A very nice waiting room, with plenty of coffee and munchies while waiting: They even had a couple of recliners, someone was thinking of the comfort of folk who wait: My homework: The recliner made it comfy to kick off my Crocs and read:

LONGGGGG week!

and a very busy one. Last Sunday we got out and did a bit more fishing. We are getting a bit paranoid about going out to Spring Valley tho, everytime of late we go and end up breaking somthing. First it was hubby's wrist, this time I broke my fishing pole. I loved that fishing pole, it was an 8 ft Ugly Stick and was a great pole. Luckily we had a back up pole, but it was only a 6 ft beginner Shakespeare that didn't have as much reach. Have to start looking for a new pole. I did manage to catch a few fish, most were blue gill to small to keep and one 6 inch trout I HAD to keep because the &%^$# idiot swallowed the &%^$%# hook! GRRRRRRRR. Monday was VERY busy with profs bringing in stuff for reserve, I processed about 3 carts worth. Luckily the instructor for the class I am taking brought his stuff in so I was able to get the first weeks readings. Went to class, there are 13 students and I'm still the oldest one, tho there is a grad student who loooks to be in her lat

My last Friday off

School starts Monday, so no more 4 day weeks, it's back to the grindstone. I'm retaking a class I took a few years ago so I can finally finish up my anthro degree, then I can start work on a 3rd degree, haven't decided if I'm going for another BS or a Masters. Have been puttering about today, attempting some house cleaning. Got a bit done, still have some to go. Currently have 4 trays of sliced white mushrooms in the dehydrator. We picked up a 25 pound bag of Walla Walla Sweets for 30 cents a pound over at Otto's Produce, along with a couple pounds of tree ripe, picked this morning peaches. YUMMM!!!!! I'll slice the onions and put them in the dehydrator to dry and then will seal them in mason jars for later use. I'm still waiting for my tomatos to turn red, I think a couple are turning yellw, so maybe in a few days. Finally got my driver's license renewed, it expired on Monday, so now I'm legal again. Currently brain dead, I've been awake since 4

New blog

Seems Blogger has a new set up in beta, so I'm going to give it a try. I think I will merge my cooking for newbies blog into that one so I can just discuss cooking and related subjects in greater detail, but I will continue to make posts for beginning cooks. The new blog is JeanC's Kitchen . I'll be working on moving all my posts over soon

Happy Birthday to me!

A whole 45! I'm still working on getting the rest of the trip written up, but my eyes got buggy this weekend and I gave up. Spent the weekend puttering around and most of yeasterday doing not much of anything, that was so nice hehehehehehe. We did get some plywood down in hubby's cave for a temporary solution to the worn out floor. Still need to lay the lino tiles from the dollar store (not to mention buying more to finish the project). We saw some really nice flooring at Costco made from bamboo that would be the ticket for a permanent solution. Just need to figure out the square footage of the room and then budget to get it. We also got him a decent office chair. Went out and got myself a pair of Crocs in bright pink. They are SOOOO comfortable. I cant wait to be able to buy more pairs in different styles and colors. Kitty cats are doing fine, tho Nicky managed to get himself covered in teeny, tiny burry seeds, we're still trying to get all of them out of his fur. Our nei

Return of the late night visitor

Image
Got back from Lammas Circle last night to see the late night visitor was back: Hey Chimera! Can you do your skunk whipsering again and convince them to move on permanently?

Probably should write something LOL

Things are toddling along, hubby managed to break his wrist last Friday and it has made life interesting. We'd gone out to Spring Valley to camp and fish and he'd tripped after getting out of the boat. Really sad thing is we'd only caught a blue gill each. Temps have been much better, it's almost freezing in the mornings, tho by afternoon it has warmed up a lot. I'm getting very seriously into photography, I've added more photos to my Flickr page . I've figured out how to use the timer on the camera to take self protraits. I've joined several groups to show off my photos to a larger audience. My garden is coming along. I had some pics, gotta figure out where they are hidden, if not, I'll take more LOL. My one roma tomato is going nuts, I so can't wait for them to ripen so I can start enjoying them. The quest to tame and civilize Scrapper cat is coming along. He's now coming to my door for his early evening meal. He even came inside the other
