Hot, hot, hot redux

It's already 81F out and it is going to get hotter. They are talking breaking records set in the 1920s. EEP!!!! On the plus note, my tomatos are loving the heat and are growing taller every time I look at them, so maybe I'll have some success this year. I hope so. We got the air conditioner installed in the bedroom for the summer. Now we need to get one for hubby's office so he can survive the summer. I ended up in the bedroom yesterday with the laptop trying to stay cool. The grill is going to get a workout this week. I think I'll seriously agitate for at least a table top gas grill for cooking. I like my charcoal, but gas would be faster and less messy in this hot weather. The grill I want runs $2000 and I haven't been able to convince hubby it's a good investment hehehehehehe. That's what I get marrying a guy without the grilling/BBQ gene :D Sitting in the house last night eating dinner when I got a whiff of something. I turned to hubby and asked if he sm

The frog

Here are the photos hubby took: I found no sign of the frog when I got home, so either Rum Tum ate it, moved it elsewhere when he got bored with playing it or it wasn't all that dead and it got away. Needless to say, I did get some canned cat food to hopefully keep the decrease in the neighborhood wildlife down to a minimum (tho he's turned into quite the hunter so I suspect we'll see a BIG decrease inthe numbers of the slower, dumber critters. I really, really hope he doesn't dscover the goats down the end of the road).

SIGH!!!!!!!!!!

Got a call from hubby right before I went to lunch. Hubby: is it okay for Rum Tum to eat a frog? me:....A what? Hubby: a frog, I got pictures. me: um, I don't think we have any poisonous frogs, so I guess it is okay. How big a frog? Hubby: about 2-3 times the size of his paw, not sure how he got it over from the pond. me: is it still alive? Hubby: not very me: okay, it should be fine Chat for a couple minutes and hang up, me shaking my head in resignation and mentally making a vow to get the child some canned food since he's obviously starving to death, despite eating at 3 different households. He caught two birds the other day, he actually growled at me when I took one away from him to see what he'd caught. I'm hoping he doesn't get it in his mind that pheasant would be very tasty. Try explaining THAT to the game warden LOL

Serious ketchup time

I'm a bad blogger, I haven't written in a week. Bad me :D So, what's up. KiKi is back in the e-collar as of this morning. She had been healing up nicely and this morning I noticed she'd scratched the scab off and was bleeding she'd scratched so hard. So on went the collar and some triple antibiotic ointment. She is not a happy camper again, but it's her own danged fault. We had found a tick on Nicky a week ago, so he got the last dose of the Hartz flea and tick once a month stuff. Went to the store to get more for Rum Tum (and KiKi once she heals up) and discovered no one carries it anymore. Still have to check Wally World (blech!), but I have to double check I think I read on one of the cat groups Hartz was pressured into discontinuing their stuff for cats over 10 pounds. It looks like they've discontinued for all kitties. They still have plenty of stuff for dogs, but no kitties. The stuff you get from the vet and the pet stores is bloody expensive ($45 for

Other stuff

Besides the aformentioned fun with plumbing, I did manage to get other stuff done. I finally got several more inverted pots done and now have the extra bush beans that sprouted in the pots hanging up and even managed to get the trim on the porch roof nailed back down (having to commit chemical warfare on a few yellowjacket nests in the process). Not too mention several loads of laundry done. I still have to finish the sink, I need to run a bead of chaulking undeneath to seal it and tack it down (the only thing holding the sink up is the counter since I ended up taking all the bracket strips off (what I'm cutting in the one pic). Brined and processed 2 packages of boneless, skinless chicken breasts I got for a $1.89 a pound at Winco. So I have a 3 freezer bags of dump chicken (a ranch, a fajita and an alfredo) and 3 packages of plain chicken breasts in the freezer. Hubby discovered our car mechanic is also a small engine mechanic, so we'll haul the self-propelled lawnmower I inh

Rain

Here's a couple pics of the rain we got Sunday afternoon. It was cool since the sun was also out: We also had a double rainbow, the upper one is pretty faint, but it was still cool:

Garden pics

Here are some pics of my garden: The rhubarb is very happy this year: My Shasta daisy's came back as did my columbine and irises. My lavender is ailing, I need to get in and cut it back: My front flower bed: My tomato garden: My bush beans are coming up well in the planters. I'll thin them out and move some to planters that don't have as many and into inverted pots: And as promised, my hanging garden with the inverted containers:

Weekend catchup

Image
Had a nice weekend. Got my hair cut (YAY!!!!!), baked two loaves of bread yesterday, along with some hamburger buns and made a pot of split pea soup using the ham bone from the ham I baked on Saturday. Got some of the front garden strip dug up and planted the white sage and horehound. I'll dig up a bit more every week until I get the whole strip done. I plan on putting in lavander, heather and Sweet Williams, along with more hens & chickens. The rest of my garden enjoyed all the rain we had this weekend. I still need to get my peas planted, gotta get that done sometime this week. Watched two races this weekend, the race from the previous week an yesterdays race. Very much enhjoyed them. I really want to see one in person sometime just to get the full experience. Here is a couple shots of my new hair style. No face-on shots, I didn't like how those pics turned out. Planning on firing up the grill tonight, I'll pick up some foil on the way home so I can cook the fries on

Da Bear

Image
On Memorial Day itself, we went out to our friends house. they have about 10 acres of wooded property and they are always getting various critters wandering thru. Our friends also have 3 dogs that don't like bears either so when they got wind of one, they treed it:

Poor KiKi

Image
Poor, poor KiKi. We told her to leave the owie alone. She kept scratching at it and it won't heal properly. no matter how well we treat it. So we picked up something to keep her from scratching at it. Poor, poor KiKi. (and poor, poor me. I can't bring myself to laugh at her, at least whiile she's in the room so I have to keep my laughter stifled hehehehehehe. It is soooo hard).
