Happy New Year's Eve y'all!

Going to friends tonight, the formal sit down dinner has been postponed, so we're doing potluck instead. We've got the bar mostly packed up and ready to go, just got to pull the stuff we need in the fridge out when it is time to go . We're taking the inflatable palm tree and the parrot for decor Had some sun for a little while today, it's raining again I really, really miss my snow. What happened, we moved to the coast?!?! Rum Tum has definately forgiven me for stepping on him yesterday. The shelves are done, pics later. We had to go to TriState last night, the screws we bought at the hardware store we bought the extra 2X4s stripped, several when they were only half way in and this was AFTER drilling pilot holes. Hubby is not happy and will let that store know. We paid $9.00 for 40 screws and having most of them strip like that is unacceptable. So off to TriState we went. Looking for a clerk, hubby ran into the guy who stocks their nails and screws and such (not a TriSt

Quick post

and a quick break from what I'm doing today. So far I've gotten the bookshelves in the hallway cleared off and out, stepped on the kitten while outside drilling the pilot holes for the new shelves, had some coffee and taken a few pics of the shelf project. I think the kitten has forgiven me, I fed him a handful of kitty treats.

Yawn

A cold, wet, dreary day today. Didn't want to do much, but managed to get a load of laundry done, measured out the 2X4s and the hallway and realized I'm going to HAVE to cut some of them down. I was hoping I could use the longest ones as is, but they are 12 feet long and that would put the shelves well into the living room and that won't work. So I'll probably cut them down, tho I have lots of 8 foot lengths I can go with. I'm thinking I have 6 12 footers I can cut down to 10 feet and then go from there. Christmas day was nice and quiet. Made blueberry muffins, got the mix from Winco's bulk section and then got frozen blueberrys to have real ones in them. B came over from next door and brought the fixin's for crab cream cheese omlets. She put a little bit in my omlet and it was delish. I didn't have an allergic reation that I could tell, so I was a happy camper. Thawed the ham and popped it in the oven. Watched my DVD of Scrooge with Alistair Sim. It

FRIDAY!!!

Made it thru the week. It's been fairly quiet with most of the students gone. I'm going in today at 11 am as I'm covering the 6-8pm shift. I did the same yesterday. We couldn't get any of our student workers to were qualified to cover those shifts to work, they are all off spending the holidays with their families. I'm off next week, I only have to use 1 day of annual leave, the other 4 days the university gives us as paid holiday days. Rum Tum came within an inch of getting himself declawed with a pair of pliers. I'm normaly opposes o declawing kitties, but Wednesday night I'd just fallen asleep when I awoke to a slicing pain in my left index finger. I'm not sure what happened, but the little snot sliced a half inch gash into my finger and drew some serious blood. He nailed my hubby in the leg shortly there after and I'm still finding where he bleed across the floor. Oh well, he's just a very rambunctious 3 month old and will hopefully settle

The Cat Carol

I was listening to the radio station I get on the internet from Red Deer Alberta Canada when a song came on and I haven't been able to stop crying even when I think about it. So I HAD to share this most sad, but beautiful song: The Cat Carol The cat wanted in to the warm warm house, but no one would let the cat in It was cold outside on Christmas Eve, She meowed and meowed by the door. The cat was not let in the warm warm house, And her tiny cries were ignored. 'twas a blizzard now, the worst of the year, There was no place for her to hide. Just then a poor little mouse crept by, He had lost his way in the snow. He was on his last legs and was almost froze, The cat lifted him with her paw. She said "Poor mouse do not be afraid, because this is Christmas Eve. "On this freezing night we both need a friend, "I won’t hurt you - stay by my side." She dug a small hole in an icy drift, This is where they would spent the night. She curled he

Got this via email:

WE HAVE WATER!!!!!!

Water started flowing about 5:30 or so, so I am a happy camper. Immediately went out to unplug the heat tape. Talking with the property owner and he was mentioning the heat tape was probably the old stuff (had to be, we never put it on) and tended to be flamable. Since we helped put out the fire on the trailer next door one night a couple years ago which started from the heat tape under B's place that had gotten wrapped up in wet insultion, we are now paranod. Hubby called a friend of ours who came over and helped with the crawling around under the trailer getting the heat tape plugged and and checking out the pipes. But the water is back on and the cupboard doors under sinks will be staying open tonight. Hubby will hit TriState for some of that foam stuff to wrap around and next year we'll see about new heat tape. The ham came out yummy. I sliced it up with my electric knife. The bone is wrapped and tucked into the freezer. I've got a good sized rubbermaid container of ham

Of course! It's Sunday!

Crawled out of bed this morning, walked intot he kitchen, grabbed the carafe for the coffee maker and put it under the faucett. Turned on said faucett. Nothing. Turned the handle to hot. Nothing. Walked down to the bathroom, tried the sink there. Nothing. Same with the bathtub. Seems sometime in the night the pipes froze. Checked with our uphill neighbors, they have water. So we have a friend over who is capable of crawling under the trailer, figured out we did have heat tape on the pipes, but it wasn't plugged in. We haven't needed to use it in the 10 years we've lived here. We talked to the property owner and he does remember the pipes freezing in this trailer years ago. So we are hoping the heat tape will work. We had a trickle start in the bathtub, so fingers crossed. We cranked the heat to 75F and fired up the Dragon and have it down the end outside the bathroom. Good news for today, hubby got my oven fixed again. Again it was the connector for the bottom element, the

Another book I requested the library to order for our collection has arrived. Now I am anxiously awaiting for it to make it thru cataloging and marking so I can have it in my hot little hands The book is Lara Frater's Fat Chicks Rule! How To Survive in a Thin-Centric World and I am so looking forward to reading it. Other books I requested and we got are TAKING UP SPACE: How Eating Well & Exercising Regularly Changed My Life by Pattie Thomas , Ph.D., a VERY good read and I highly recommend it. Another is Strange History of Suzanne LaFleshe and Other Stories of Women and Fatness by Susan Koppelman (editor), which is also very interesting reading. It's FRIDAY!!!!!!!! And the last day of the semester, so we should have a quiet few weeks before students come back from break. The staff Christmas party was yesterday. I baked brownies I added chocolate chips to and there wasn't a crumb left by the time the party was over. Some one brought an assortmant of yummy che

So here are a couple of Nicky and Rum Tum Tigger being sweet:

The tree

Image
Here we go: As I mentioned, it is a bit tall, but I picked it for that reason. But once trimmed and dcorated, it looks nice:

Pith helmet from the Army Navy Surplus store - $18.00

Image
Antlers from the dollar store - $1.00 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer nose from the dollar store - $1.00 The squeals of glee from young children and the smiles and laughter from stressed out holiday shoppers - priceless (Creative hubby - also priceless) Gazoo!

SPARKLIES!!!!!!!

Drove up to Potlatch and bought a tree from the Boy Scouts there. What they do is get tags from the orest Circus for $3-$4 each tree and cut down trees in the woods and then sell them for $8 a tree. So I got the biggest one I could get, I'll post the pic later. Got it home, cut a bunch off the bottom, brought it in and cut some off the top (I did this once before, but then the size of the tree was a total surprise, it looked so much shorter next to that 125' pnderosa pine hehehehehehe), but I looked at the tree and got ideas. So the bottom I cut off will get trimmed and I'll share the boughs with my neighbor B and we'll both have lots of greenery to decorate with. So got the tree up, the cats are being very good. I did have to move some furniture and move their condo around so their porches are facing into the room. Lights up, some decortions up, candy canes strewn about it, the bead garland up, the small garland up and a couple strands of thicker garland that I usuall

Get a grip!

Seems some fundies and conservatives are foaming at the mouth over people saying "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas during this holiday season. These folk need to get a life that involves living with their fellow human beings instead of demanding everyone else follow their narrow and preferable version of theocracy view of the world. Holiday: (from “holy day”), originally, a day of dedication to religious observance; in modern times, a day of either religious or secular commemoration. So wishing folk a Happy Holiday during this time of year covers BOTH religious (Christmas, Hanukkah, Solstice/Yule, Kwanzaa and what ever religious celebration happens around this time) AND the nice secular let's all go out eat, drink and be merry enjoying and surviving the winter holidays. Personally, if I wanted to get bent out of shape about things, I'd start campaigning that Christians should stop celebrating Christmas in December since the vast majority of the traditi

World's biggest loser

Blindfolded Santa Hanging From Noose At Home Upsets Neighborhood Yeah, he has a right to display whatever he wants on his property, tho there are limits on free speech. However, how does that saying go? "It is better to be quiet and thought a fool then to open one's mouth and prove it" or something to that effect. Looks like he's proven to the world he's a total fool, at the very least a total jerk who will probably die alone and unremembered by friends and family after pulling crap like this.

Oh lovely....NOT!

Neighbor was over a little bit ago, they'd tried calling but hubby was on the phone talking to the Lout, who'd called him. Neighbors had been calling for Tuffy to come in, they thought he was on the kitty deck, but the window is froze shut and they were trying to get him thru the front door. J finally realized that the noise on the deck wasn't Tuffy, he was on the roof. She looked out the window in time to see a great honking raccoon scoot off and run away. Tuffy was on the roof and wasn't coming down off the roof. She's still trying to call him in, 45 minutes later. I think Tuffy is really freaked after his run in with the raccoon that cost him several back toes. Great, we've got a great big raccoon living up the hill, last we'd heard he was down the road under the bridge. So either he's moved to the better part of the neighborhood or we've got more then one. Hubby is going to call fish and game tomorrow and see what our options are. With luck the

Okay

Feeling a lot less homicidal today LOL Looking forward to more chocolate when I get home tonight. Got a wee bit chilly today, our little thermometer at home was showing a low of 0.1F. A sure sign it's cold? Hubby put on a lightweight jacket yesterday and said it was cold even for him hehehehehehehe. Thank goodness we have the Dragon, I hate to see what our electric bill would look like heating the house strictly on electric heat. Watched the sweetest movie on the victim's ch.... errr Lifetime Channel. The movie was called Recipe for a Perfect Christmas . We usually don't have Lifetime on the grid, but we saw an ad for the movie on another channel and thought it looked cute. Was a wonderful movie to watch last night while I was in my "mood" and eating chocolate. When we hit Safeway last night we picked up some already made frozen hamburger patties. We were just going to grab a package of burger, but I put my foot down paying $3 a pound for it. All they had w

Let's see......

Brownie mix, 2 boxes.... check chocolate chips, 2 bags.... check double chocolate fudge frosting, 1 container..... check big mug of hot buttered rum..... check No one getting slaughtered tonight..... double check :D

Give the scary lady some chocolate and no one gets hurt!

Bright, sunshiny morning

and 25F out. Thermometer says it got down to 20.1F, at least here at our house, they were predicting lows about 17F. Hopefully it doesn't get down to that, at least tonight and the power doesn't go out. A friend borrowed our Dragon to see if it could heat up his sauna down by his pond. If it works he'll buy one and we'll get our Dragon back. Didn't make it to TriState, by the time we got ready and our neighbor B got ready, we were running a bit later then we liked and we wanted to be back up the hill before dark. So we got to Lewiston, got gas, paid that bill, hit Shopko and found the cane tip we've been looking for. It attachs to the cane and swivils down to cover the tip with a piece that has teeth. It's good for snow and ice and swivils out of the way when not needed. We'd first seen one at an open circle and a guest had one. He said he got it at Rite Aid and we checked the next time we were in. We SHOULD have gotten it then, but we figured we'l

Just a quick note

Still snowing on and off, tho with not as much accumulation, the snow is really fine but with the wind is drfits a lot. We have to drive down to Lewiston today to pay a bill (we hadn't gotten a bill in the mail becasue the company had forgotten us) and if we pay at their Lewiston office today we don't have to worry about a late fee since it was their fault. So we'll hit Costco for chicken and hopefully cheese, I'd like to get a big bag of shredded mozzarella if possible so I can make pizzas for a couple dinners over the next couple weeks. We'll also hit Safeway down there for gas, hubby picked up our pills and they totaled over $60, so we have the 6 cent a gal discount on gas instead of 3 cent. Before we head down we're popping into TriState for their Holiday Expo, hoping they will have a bread slicer on sale. With my making our own bread, we need to be able to slice even slices for sandwiches. A guide would make it so much easier to do so. Started decorating la
