YOWZA!!!!

We have snow, boy do we have SNOW!!!! We had at least 8 inches on the car and when we went out last night to rescue the Nicky kitty I was tromping thru a good foot or more snow across our lawn. The wind had blown up drifts and by this morning blown most of it away so we only had 6 inches or so on the lawn. Boy, that cat KNOWS we love him now LOL Poor thing hadn't really seen snow, since last year he was indoors most of the time and we didn't get much. He'd gotten under the neighbors truck and the snow drifted up high around it and poor thing was terrified of the snow and cried and cried and cried when I called him. He was definately one freaked out kitty. Now I just have to figure out where my snow shovel went, it isn't where I thought I'd put it grrrrrrrrrrr I just talked to hubby and reminded him to see if he can find it. We really should have gotten pics, but hubby thought the camera was in his bag in the car, well the bag must be in the house since it wasn

SNOW!!!!!!

We had the first significant snowfall of the season, I think a whole inch or so :D Just enough for the idiots to forget how to drive in it, but we made it thru town this morning with no problems. Tried an experiement last night, I did a loaf of whole wheat bread using the recipe in the Oster booklet, but I used the dough cycle and then made rolls out of it. Very yummy and made a wonderful addition to my chicken soup I brought for lunch. As I was kneading and rolling it out to cut I realized I could make a couple small loaves using the same technique and possibly freeze them for later baking. So I think I will soon have a freezer full of bread and rolls along with the pizza doughs. I'm also going to make some sourdough starter as we really like the Safeway Artisan breads and I think I can make those myself using the bread machine on the dough setting. Dinner last night was a toss together. I thawed a package of stuffing and tossed it in a casserole dish to bake in the oven and the

I'm wishing for another week or so, I like vacations

I had a nice relaxing week off, even with turkey day (and the Great Gravy Explosion) in there. The turkey carcass is in the freezer, that will get stocked next weekend. Right now I have some chicken stock cooling off and a pot of chicken soup with the rest of that stock and the leftover chicken and veg from the chicken earlier this week. Attempted turkey croquettes for dinner, or at least my version of them. I took some dressing, chopped up turkey and then tossed in 3 beaten eggs and made patties. I oven fried them and served them with keister sauce. I needed more egg or some sort of liquid, they didn't hold together to well, but they were very tasty. Went over to our one neighbor, she's got the 1st season of the Muppet Show on DVD and so we watched a couple hours of that. I really miss that show, the DVDs are going on our wish list. Baked up more banana nut muffins. I had the batter in the freezer and they turned out pretty well, even tho that was the batter I'd goofed

T-day post-mortum

Everything came out fine, tho I will be going back to Grandma Florence's black enamal roaster next year, I wasn't totally satisfied with the one I cooked the bird in this time around. We had 5 for dinner, D from next door was going to be alone, but his lady J got off work early and she came along. The pie came out very yummy and it going into my permanent repertoire, as will the homemade crockpot apple butter. Good thing I'd stashed extra of the fancy mash potatos, there was hardly any left, they were popular, as were the candied yams. BTW, I'm not kidding about post-mortum: yup, this is the ceiling Needless to say, right after this happened, I said many bad words in front of my mother, tho she understood. The one good thing about it all, it happened AFTER dinner, but I was so looking forward to having the leftover gravy for open faced turkey sandwiches. There was one fatality, a wine glass got broken, you can see part of it in the first pic laying in the co

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!

Hmmmmmm

I'm more or less twiddling my thumbs today. I have nothing t-day wise to do today, except get the turkey in a cold bath to thaw over night. I'll do the stuffing and drssing in the morning and prep the bird and that will be done. I'm so organized hubby is getting nervous LOL I did tell him I could schedule a minor meltdown for tomorrow morning, but he said that was okay. Dinner last night was a whole chicken I split in half and roasted on a bed of cubed potatos, quarterd sweet onions and a couple of handfuls of whole peeled garlic. The leftovers will make a yummy soup this weekend (tho I am SOOOOO looking forward to turkey leftovers :D ) I do have to hit Winco this evening on the way home from getting the card table, discovered we only had canned crushed cranberries left over from last year and we prefer the jellied and I also need to pick up more baking soda. I use it for cleaning and such (and the wee one is a bit stinky in the litter box so some to prinkle in there wold

Oh my aching feet

Made more mashed potatos today, these will be for turkey day dinner. I used cream cheese in them and managed to get a couple of gladware containers of them for later. Boiled to yams until soft and cut them up and found I'd gone a bit over board LOL, I have 2 gladware containers of plain sliced yams I'll freeze and do something with them later. The rest of the yams I was able to fit into the dish I was planning on using. I melted butter, added brown sugar and a bit of water and brought it to a slow boil to make a syrup, added cinnamon and nutmeg and poured it over the yams. Popped them in the oven for a while and they are now out and cooling and will go in the fridge. I did up Paula's pies, I made two of them and put them in the freezer uncooked. One I'll pull out and bake on Thursday and the other will get pulled out for the Yule holidays. So I'm pretty much ready for the big day, all I have left is the stuffing, esxtra dressing and the bird itself and that I wil

The Thanksgiving Adventure is over.....

So the rest of the week should be smooth sailing :) Last year it was the oven craping out while trying to cook the bird, ysterday it was driving down to Lewiston to get my mom at 10:00 at night in the nasty fog. She was supposed to arrive at the Moscow-Pullman Airport at 3:15, rent her car, get to the hotel and call. We were a little late running errands and got home and no message on the machine. We wait a bit, hubby calls around, finally gets a hold of Horizon and they say the plane tired to land in here, but couldn't and it was on it's way back to Seattle. But they couldn't say if my mom was still on board. My thought, THEY LOST MY MOM!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, breath, Horizon is a good airlines and they lose luggage at the most, not people. Mom finally calls and says she is in Seattle. She was regretting no getting off the plane in Lewiston when she had the chance, but the pilot thought they might be able to land in Moscow, tho the condistions were a bit marginal. They tried l

Okay, VACATION!!!!!

A whole week off, I'm going to enjoy it. For dinner last night we picked up a Papa Murphy's chicken and bacon stuffed pizza, made great breakfast too :D Got my hair cut today, got the gal's card so I remember who to go to next time. I go so seldom I never remember the name of whoever cut my hair last at this place. It's called Twister's and I like it. I was half tempted to going super short, but I wimped out, it's too cold for that. I did go shorter then I usually do and had the gal thin the ends out a lot, so there is more bounce in it now. My hair may be baby fine, but there is a LOT of it. Did the turkey day shopping, picked up a 22lb bird at Safeway, along with a whole bunch of other groceries. Hit Winco for my bulk goods, also the wine we forgot to get a Safeway. Goign to try an Arbor Mist white merlot with cranberry and kiwi flavors. Should give the turkey a very nice flavor. I'm going to use the new roasting pan and rack instead of my grandmother&#

So we go up to Spokane for my endo appointment, drove up via Coeur d'Alene and gassed up there. Most stations were $2.0899 a gallon. Needless to say, we also filled up the gas can. It was a very nice day for a drive, tho a tad chilly for running around without a coat. Hit the Zip's at the outlet mall to grab a quick lunch and drove thru the outlet mall. Most of the stores were empty and the Full Figured Fashion store was gone. I've gotten lots of good clothes there for a decent price over the years. I'm going to miss them. Yup, the economy is going gang busters, so much so no one can afford to shop the outlet malls on a regular enough basis to keep them going :P Found the Asian Market in Spokane. Really had to restrain myself. I picked up 2 different kinds of rice noodles (wide regular style and some triangle shaped ones), I've been kicking myself since we left, I REALLY should have picked up the corkscrew rice noodles to. I also got a jar of pad thai sauce and a bo

Semi-lazy Saturday

Puttered about a bit. Hit Tri-State and picked up another window kit, so now both the office and bedroom windows have been shrink wrapped. Went to Ross, didn't find what we were looking for, but walked out with a pump container for oil. I'll use it for sesame oil. Got more of the living room picked up. Need to do hte one kitchen window, but the foam I was going to make an insert out of was no where near big enough. I may just get another shrink wrap kit for it. The whole wheat dough made GREAT regular pizzas last night. I'll make more when I pick up more whole wheat bread flour next weekend. Dinner tonight was potstickers, krab rangoon and prawn crackers (epipen at the ready, but no immediate reaction to the prawn chips. So I think I can safely have those to munch every once in a while) and some keister sauce for dipping. The potstickers didn't go as well with the keister sauce as we liked, they definately need a savory dipping sauce. Currently having a nice cup of tea

Today's User Friendly says is well:

Time to gear up for a fight

Wal-Mart files application for a super center" They did get one thing wrong in the article, it is NOT the Tidyman's site, it is further down the road from it. Tidyman's and the Alturas Technology Park (which has a lawyers office built there. Since when is a law firm considered technology?) is on the southWEST corner, the southeast corner is curently a wheat/pea field directly across from the cemetary. A Wally World supercenter there will block my view of the cemetary, cause MORE traffic on the speedway (Palouse River Drive, it's got a 35 mph speed limit, way too many people do 45-50+ out there. Just wait til they get eevn more people speeding there). What I want to know is, is this a ploy to force Pullman into letting them build it there? A lot of Pullmanites have been very resistant to Wally World building there and have been very vocal about it. Wally World went so far as to put out a petition for people to sign saying they WANT the supercenter built. I don't t

Got sick and tired of sitting right under the vent at work, so I rearranged my work space. A co-worker helped me shove desks and computer desks around. Not the most efficient set up, but I'm out from under the vent. I'll see how it goes for a week or two, I can always move things back. After taking the quiz in the previous post, I'm going to have to watch more Paula Deen LOL I've seen a couple of her shows and she is more my kind of chef. I firmly believe entertaining of friends should take place in the kitchen around the kitchen table. So when I win the big one, I'm designing the most friendly kitchen ever :D We ran hubby thru the quiz and he came up as Alton Brown. Managed to get Rum Tum's claws trimmed last night, to a while he was such a wiggle puppy. Funnier then heck watching him try to jump up on the bed. He usually jumps as high as he can and then snags the bedspread and climbs. No sharp claws and mommy on the floor laughing hysterically watching the

Our friend had to leave early, so no pizza tonight. Luckily I still had the chicken to process, so I made the peanut butter and held some aside for the peanut sauce. Processed the chicken, made 3 packages, 1 with the peanut sauce, 1 lemon garlic and 1 plain. I then put some chicken in a pan and covered it with more peanut sauce and that is currently in the oven. I have some rice leftover from the other night to put it over. Today is voting day, but since I live in the county and there were only city elections, I sat this one out.

Pearls before swine Got our first snow yesterday at home. It was mixed with rain, so was rather slushy, but I did see snow flakes. Didn't stick for long either. The arrangements for loaning our friends my car are ticking along. Our insurance company recommends a transfer of titile to avoid either hubby or I being nailed in a lawsuit if anything happens in an accident, so we'll look at a $1 sale and keep a lien on it to make sure everything is covered. Hubby took the car over to DMV with our friend to get the new tags. Still have to find the title, it's in the house somewhere LOL We have 30 days to transfer the title, so we have time. Picked up some pork loin roasts and a 10lb bag of chicken hindquarters at WinCo, the pork loins I cut in half and vac sealed them. I didn't feel like brining them this time around. The hindquarters I'll process tonight and make several ziplocks worth of dump chicken recipes. Picked up a little over 3 pounds of salted peanuts in the

My blog is worth $73,954.74 . How much is your blog worth?

SCORE!!!

It's been a good Freecycle weekend for us. Hubby got a coffee maker that we'll use for coven and other get togethers and I scored an Oster bread machine and a queen sized futon with frame. The bread maker lacked a kneader and I'd found on online for $7.99 and $4.95 shipping. The cost on the Oster site was $12.95 plus shipping, so we went with the better deal. So when the kneader arrives, I can give my neighbor back her machine. The new one does bigger loafs and I can't wait to try it. The futon was disassembled when we picked it up, so hubby and I had an interesting time figuring out how it went back together. We finally got it figured out. Okay, we had to lose two book shelves and we'll have to move the hideabed closer to one wall to get thru from the hallway just so we could find a place to put it, but having the extra seating in the living room will be nice. Since we freecycled the rocker, we only had an office rolly chair for guests and then only for one guest

Hmmmmm

I occasionally check to see where folk are coming from and here are the latest words and phrases people used to hit my blog: gun oil witch is the best (hint, it's spelled which, not witch. Type a word wrong and it brings a whole new meaning to what you are looking for LOL) a cat house www.ossie sauce.com (why a search? I'd think just plugging that into the address br would have gotten them to where they wanted to go) cat holding gun (this is a popular for coming to my site) susan sarandon graves disease (Hmmmmm, have to check this one myself. Would explain her slight popeyed look of late) home designs to re decorate ur house (it's spell your, not ur. Sheesh) pagans mc cpap and orgasim (?????? Ooooookay) human nasel passages (ditto)

And they call him....Rum Tum Tigger!

At least for now, hubby finally figured the kitten wasn't interested in coming up with a name himself, so Rum Tum Tigger came to mind (which fits considering the kitten enjoyings leaping and piroetting around the room). Beats the heck out of Oswald (which is what I've been threatening to name him hehehehehe). So we'll see how that works out. He may come up with a different one when he's ready. Was feeling pretty crappy yesterday, took my temp when I got home from work and it was running 99.8F. Considering I spent a good part of yesterday freezing, I suspect it was much higher then that. Also hobbled around with the cane. Tuesday night I got home, went to slip my shoes off and my left knee screamed. Had to pop a couple of AC&C just so I can crawl into bed without too much pain (codeine is my friend hehehehehe). Knees are a bit better today and I hate using a cane. Made pizzas the night before last with the whole wheat dough. Gleaned the rest of the meat off the chi
