Not the way to start one's day

The wind started about 4 am, waking both of us up. Hard getting back to sleep when your bedroom is on the end of a metal box that the wind is blowing on. We kept getting power blips, which meant the CPAPs kept going on and off. I gave up turning the humidifier back on everytime and finally got a bit of sleep. That is until the power went out completely a little after 6 am.

So we decided that it was time to get up. We have those battery touch lights scattered throught out the house, so we had light to get to the living room. Lit the Dragon, so we had heat. Lit the oil lamps we have, so we had light and I dig out the butane single burner stove so I was able to get a pot of water going and made a nice big pot of tea. We dug the emergency radio out of the bug out bag, so we were able to get some local news. Seems the power went out in several parts of Moscow and several little towns north of us. Have to see about getting a multi-cup Melita. We only have a single cup one and while tea was nice, we really needed our coffee this morning.

Power came back on just before 8am (I'd already called into work to see if they had power, we have an old rotery dial phone I keep as back up, no electricity needed and we can save our cell minutes). So I got some laundry going, worked on getting dressed and the coffee maker going and then the power went out again about 8:30. Oh well, the laundry survivied sitting in water until the power came back on and it finished cycling. Hubby then got it into the dryer so all was well.

Today was the first day of the new semester, had plenty to do with profs bringing in materials to put on reserve. It isn't as bad as it used to be, a lot of them are using the electronic reserve, so I only have to deal with the books and articles they want on physical reserve.

Watched the "Queer eye for the straight girl" we'd recorded the other night. Never, ever again. Abysmal is too nice a word for it. I can't even begin to desribe what we didn't like about it. I'll stick with the original Fab 5 thank you very much, they are such nice boys and I don't want to slaughter them on sight.

Well, time to toddle off to bed, hopefully the wind will finally die down a bit, it is still blowing to beat the band. At least it isn't as cold as they thought is was going to be by now, but the cold is coming.
