No bonfire, WAHHHHHH!!!!

It didn't rain durning the Rit, but it POURED and hailed and thundered for a good chunk of the day. Needless to say, there wasn't enough accelerant around to get the bonfire going, so we had to go to plan B and use a large cauldron in the front yard to burn the scroll and boat. It was also EXTREMELY cold and windy, so we didn't want to be outside longer then we had to. Oh well, just means the bonfire will be even BIGGER come Beltaine hehehehehe. So Freddy didn't go out in style on the bonfire, but he is now buried out at the farm where he came from, 4 years ago on Samhain, so it was a closure of sorts. Today it has been sprinkling, windy, cold and snowing. I went out long enough today to put the cover back on my greenhouse (the wind blew the cover all to heck), put some stuff in the shed and then we popped out to the store and picked up stuff to make pumpkin pie. I'll start that in a bit. I'm also going to make more banana muffins for hubby and maybe run some b

The weekend is almost here!!!!

And it is a cold, blustery day. At least it is Friday. It is also officially Fall, I dug out the storage bag with all my sweaters in it yesterday so I can have warm tops to wear for work when I don't feel like layering with jackets and such. Tomorrow is our 11th wedding anniversary. We have no special plans, mostly becasue we are doing Samhain tomorrow. I tend to think of Dec 18th as my real wedding anniversary as that was when I had the church (Unitarian), the dress, the march down the aisle with my Dad and the whole 9 yards. The 10/30 wedding in Vancouver BC was nice, his parents and family could attend, but it was a quicky ceremony with a Marriage Commissioner and then a nice luncheon afterwards, but all the ceremony was abbreviated and while it satisfied the US govt for immigration purposes, just wasn't the same. So we are doing Samhain tomorrow and I still have a few things to do, like make the corn dolly to represent the father of a friend who passed a couple months ag

Fingers crossed

Just got a call from hubby, Shawn's mom called him and said she thinks Shawn has been located. She isn't 100% positive since she isn't getting a lot of info, but if it is him, he is safe in hospital. So lots of positive energy it is him and family and friends can breath easy again

Okay

I've gotten Shawn's pic up and on my journal. I've put it in my banner along with a link to my entry with the info so it will stay easily accessable. If anyone reading this journal is from anywhere in the Pacific Northwest and feels they can help out a little bit by passing this info on, I do have a copy of the flyer with Shawn's pic I can send people via an attachment and they can copy it out and pass it around. You can email me here

If you've never seen this online comic, I highly recommend it, even if you aren't a computer geek (I'm not and only occasionally have to have a particular strip explained to me). Illiad can really get to the heart of something and his 10/24/04 strip really says how I am feeling about the elections this year. If I can only take advantage of it :D ((I'm rapidly getting to the point that ALL political ads should be outlawed. I am SO sick of attack ads I'm half tempted to find every single candidate who uses them and see how long it takes to break a Louisville KY baseball bat over their heads).

I'm firmly grounded in the 21st Century now

I've got my very own cell phone :D Hubby liked our neighbors new Tracphone we finally broke down and got one for him. We figure in the long run it would be a good thing we each have our own, esp since I have problems making long distance calls from my desk, even with a calling card and hate making them from the public phone in the student lounge. So I have our old Tracphone and he has the one with all the bells and whistles (fine with me, I have enough problems using the one we had LOL). I am going to see about getting a new face plate for it, I saw a really cute one at Shopko on sale that has little yellow duckies on it LOL The lamb roast turned out yummy. Cooked a lot faster then I expected tho, good thing we didn't stop anywhere else after the gas station or else we would have had a charcol dinner hehehehehe. Nuked some sweet corn and fixed white rice to go with it. It was so yummy we had a heck of a time keeping Nicky off our plates. He smelled that lamb and went nuts tryi

A new week

Weekends go WAY to fast. We should get a longer weekend. Got a few things done this weekend. Friday night did some grocery shopping, checked Wally World for a new kitchen light fixture, picked up another 4 pounds of butter and some 3 drawer bins for the bathroom. Hit Tri-State to see what they had for light fixtures. I was wanting something 1950ish and the gal there suggested CHampion Electric just over the state line. Picked up a couple of really nice rocks glasses for $1.99 each (and looked longingly at the 16 piece set of short and tall glasses inthe same style for $20. Decided to hold off on that until we have more room for something like that). Went home and broke in the glasses with Tom Collinses. Sat we checked Moscow Building Supply to see what they had for light fixtures, wandered around and priced sanders. Hit Champion Electric and found what I wanted. Now I have to find something that matches to replace the fixture over the sink. We also picked up a new light switch at MBS

I would like to take this moment....

to apologize to the children of the Puyallup school district whose Halloween parties have been canceled by mean spirited school officials who think a little fun time for kids is not important and who are claiming that kids dressing up as witches and witchy decorations is offensive to Wiccans . Any Wiccans who claim that this is offensive to Wiccans are speaking for themselves and THEMSELVES ONLY!!!!!!!!! THEY DO NOT SPEAK FOR THIS WICCAN!!!!!!! I love Halloween and always have. It is a fun time for kids of ALL ages to dress up in fantasy roles and that INCLUDES the wicked witch with the pointy hat and pointy nose, along with all the ghouls, princesses, pirates and what ever the person can imagine. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Kids get so little fun at school, it is bad enough that more and more schools are getting rid of recess, now lets start taking away the parties to. Lets make the schools into joyless boxes where all we do is cram their heads full of facts and

back to the grindstone

Stayed home yesterday, definately was feeling very ick. I willingly watched 2 episodes of later season Murder She Wrote . When it was first on I loved the show, but they made a big mistake taking Jessica out of Cabot Cove in the later seasons. The occasional trip to New York was okay, but then things got exceedingly silly. It at least gave me some background noise while I spent the afternoon playing Diablo tho, even the episodes were mindless enough that one didn't really have to pay attention to them and still figure out who the murder was. Feeling much better today, tho with as much sleep as I got yesterday, I am still really, really sleepy. For REALLY good mysteries, I recommend the newest Adam Dalgliesh mystery running on PBS. It is called Death in Holy Orders and it keeps you guessing the entire time. Hubby and I usually can figure out who did it pretty early, but not this one. Martin Shaw makes a most excellent Dalgliesh, I think even better then Roy Marsden!

Frivil all to heck!

I think I'm trying to come down with something. I've been dealing with a tetchy tummy all day, lunch threatened to come back up. My ears have been popping, I've a warm feeling in my throat and a slight headachy feeling, but not a headache. I hate being sick :(

Dollar stores are so way kewl!!!!

Stopped at the new one on the way home last night. WOW! Lots of cool stuff, we picked up 3 DVDs of old Betty Boop cartoons for a buck each (still have to check out the quality), some pretty yummy cookies and a bar of Yardley's soap with shea butter, jojoba, raspberry and mint. Smells heavenly and I can't wait to try it tomorrow. They've lots of other great stuff, some way cool stemware (martini and margarita glasses), lots of storage containers, a whole lotta Suave shampoos, party supplies, even those self-sticking linoluem tiles (they run $9 a box for 27 sq ft of tiles!). I want to redo the floor in the kitchen and if they get in the black and white squares, I'm getting several boxes. I'm using my 1950's GE electric stove as the focal point, I'm going for retro'ish 50's for the look. We'll probably go in again this weekend with hubby in his chair so we can take our time and really check out what they have. I didn't get a chance to see what

Six Degrees of Votor Seperation

Here is a way cool site. I've made my pledge and the link will take you to my referal page : SixDegreesofVoting.com "This is not a commercial website, nor is it a website sponsored by any organization. It was created by a few friends who know how to make a website. Our only intentions are to increase awareness about the upcoming election and to indirectly encourage more people to make the effort to vote. Using the same principles of annoying chain letters, but with much better intentions (and without promising "your wish will come true if you send this to ten people"), we're trying to make voter turnout spread like Paris Hilton's video. We want you to vote. Not in a "Rock the Vote" kind of way, but in a "this particular election is really freakin important" kind of way. We're trying a different approach to get more people going to the polls: peer pressure. We all know the "Six Degrees of Separation" theory: Ever

Definately a Monday

The wind kept waking me up all night, before going to work I went out to see what damage it did. Did a pretty good number on my one frame around the big garden. It knocked over the frame and knocked over all three tomato cages, luckily the plants weren't damaged. One of the frames was broken, mostly the staples holding it together were ripped out. I will probably just pick all the green tomatos and bring them in and either let them ripen inside or just have lots and lots of fried green tomatos :D I will probalby look at building a little frame for the bellpeppers so they can keep going. Got part way to work when I realized I didn't bring my coffee, then realized I didn't get my cup of coffee ready. Sigh! Luckily I have a cup at my desk and I got some from a nother dept where they have a pt going and then at break I bought paid my 25 cents and got a cup in the staff lounge. Spent a quiet weekend, as I posted yesterday, it is nice to curl up and just kick back. I did get th

YEEHAW!!! IT"S FRIDAY!!!!!!

BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY

A fairly nice day today

Weather was wonderful, I'm hoping it sticks around a while, tho it is supposed to get a bit rainy this weekend. Didn't get much sleep last night. Haven't the past few night, not going to bed until almost 11pm isn't helping. The twitches are back big time today and I ain't happy. That little snot Nicky didn't come in last night when I hollared, which is in part why I went to bed late last night. I couldn't sleep well with him outside (coyotes are moving closer to town off the ridge) and I ended up letting him in about 2-2:30 this morning. Hiked down to the student rec center at lunch today. They were having the annual Health & Wellness fair. I like going, there is usually a lot of vendors and information tables with lots of good info (and some very questionable info also, you gotta be careful and really investigate what you pick up). As usual there was lots of interest at the various massage booths, so I didn't bother (not too mention if I did go fo

Mount St. Helens watch

The folk at the Spokane Wa Spokesman Review has a blog called Mount St. Helens watch to help people keep up with the Lady's happenings. They also have a sense of humor, tho being a severe arachnaphobe, I didn't look too closely at the pics they have under the one entry. They have a link to the web cam and have the latest seismogram along with a lot of cool links.

NO MORE SURPRISES DAD RAT IT!!!!!!!!

Bad enough I ran a splinter in my finger from the bedroom door jam upon rising Monday morning, the first thing on the news the minute I turned it on was hearing that Superman had died, today out of the blue I get an email from a ex-roomie using an email addy I don't recognize with a cryptic (to me) message about the festivities this Saturday and when I click on the attached jpg I find a wedding invite where she's marrying someone named Ralph. In Scotland! WHO THE HELL IS RALPH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I didn't even know she was dating anyone seriously, last I heard she was in S California doing the nursing thing and getting into pirate re-enactment. DETAILS DAMMIT I NEED DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So much for sleeping the weekend away

hehehehehe, tho I did sleep in to 8:30 this morning. Good thing it rained most of the night, the wind that proceeded it knocked down the plastice covered frames we did up the other night and blew off the sheets I had over the whole thing. Not much damage, I did have to tie up a branch of one of the big boy tomatos, it wasn't broken but it was bent to the ground. I may pull the two tomatos off of it, they are just turning red, and bring them in to finish. We are going to try and figure out a way to attach the frames to each other to give them more support, the weather is going to clear up tomorrow and things will get cold. Going to do a bit of shopping. Going to pick up the ingredients for lasagna, it has been a while since I've made it ( with about 4+ pounds of assorted cheeses it is a bit expensive. With luck Winco will have a cheese sale), it isn't a summertime dish. We're also going to check on the progress of the new dollar store opening up here in town. I love d

The week is almost done

and I think I may just spend the weekend sleeping or at least most of it (most likely just a lot of tomorrow, I have Samhain planning on Sunday and I probably should show up for that or else get "volunteered" for something hehehehe). We are supposed to have rain rolling in tonight, I need to finish working on the shelter for the other garden. I was going to do a quick and dirty "slide the window frames in the plastic bags and then prop them up around the garden", but hubby saw me and it turned into a production and I had to put them up in the dark hehehehehe. Needless to say, I saw how badly I put them up last night, so I need to tweak things a bit as soon as I get home and then do more tweaking this weekend. I may look at putting the metal edging back on the one storm window with duct tape and use that also. Not a whole heck of a lot of energy, may hint to hubby pizza for dinner might be a good idea, tho I had planned on just heating up the left over pot roast an

I decided to run a poll

Updated 11/2/04: Okay, I've closed this poll and here are the results: To those visiting who live inthe US and are elegible to vote: Who are you going to vote for President on Nov 2 2004? Answers Percent Votes 1. Pres Bush - Republican 0% 0 2. John Kerry - Democrat 57% 4 3. Michael Badernik - Libertarian 29% 2 4. Michael Peroutka - Constitutional Party 0% 0 5. David Cobb - Green Party 0% 0 6. Ralph Nader - Reform Party/Independent 0% 0 7. Other party not listed above 0% 0 8. Why bother? It is really a 2 party system and there is no real choice

Sigh!

We just had another UI student die in a motorcycle accident, tho I should say, killed himself using a motorcycle and put his female friend in the hospital. Alcohol and any vehicle that has a motor on it don't mix.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

A cold front has moved in today, dropped a little rain on my garden, tho I don't think it dropped enough. I may have to water when I get home tonight, tho I'm thinking I'll wait until the morning, have to wait and see. Having the crock pot going is definately helping with getting dinner done early enough. The pork roast came out wonderfully well, I'll use the leftovers tomorrow in a pork fried rice. I'll make a double batch of basmati rice tonight and use part of that tomorrow for the fried rice. Should be tasty. I haven't decided what I am going to do with the chicken tonight, probably sautee them with a bit of garlic and then cook them in chicken stock and then use the stock for a basis for a sauce. Hmmmmmmmmmm, add lemon juice and then thicken it with cornstarch and serve with the rice. Should make a yummy meal. I got smart and pulled the chicken out this morning to defrost in the fridge, the stock I'll pull out when I get home. That can defrost in the m

I broke down and took the Evil test :D So here are my results: How evil are you ? I guess that means I can go either way depending on my mood hehehehehehe

Oh friggin' HELL!!!!

Just what we need, ANOTHER Walmart in the area. Just read in the local rag that they are planning on putting in a Walmart Super Center over in Pullman. That is 8 miles away. If they wanted a super center, why didn't they just expand the one they have here, instead of adding another store?!?!?!?!? They say they have no plans of closing the Moscow store, so we are going to get stuck with 2 Wally Worlds. One is seriously bad enough, even if they are the cheapest place in town to get butter (which is about all we seem to go there for anymore. They are the place of last resort if we can't find what we want elsewhere). But, but, but, they will bring 300 jobs to the area!!! Yeah, all low paying, employees will be lucky if they are kept long enough to get invested in retirement or benefits and if the Moscow Walmart is any example, staffed by students who really don't want to be there and the few good folk who WANT to be there will last a couple of months before burning out trying

HMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm

Steve over at JOTW mentioned a spooky journal contest. Have to see what I can come up with :D Feeling a bit Halloweeny at the moment, I love the holiday, the Samhain bonfire and circle. I do miss the trick or treaters tho, where we live we really don't have any kids and the few we do have go into town to do their trick or treating.

A new week

Prepped the onions and garlic last night for the pot roast, tossed everything in this morning while getting coffee, added a bit of water and basalmic vinegar. Haven't quite decided what to have for a side, may resort to packaged potato stuff if I don't feel like doing cous cous or rice. I'm tossing a sirloin prok roast in the crockpot tomorrow and then Wed I'll do something with chicken. Thurs and Fri will use the leftovers from pot roast and the pork roast. Not sure how, but that is as far as I've planned as yet :P The bread turned out pretty acceptable, tho rather short and dense LOL but quite tasty. Will have to see about picking up proper bread flour this weekend. Got several containers of chicken stock in the freezer now, so I now have the basis for a number of recipes. Weather is still nice, tho I am definately making sure I cover the garden at night. I still need to come up with something better then sheets, will look thru cupboards and see if I have any pl

A great way to spend a Sunday

A chicken carcass stocking on the stove, banana nut bread in the oven, a loaf of white in the bread machine and NASCAR on the telly :D I have to confess, I am getting hooked on NASCAR, I am really enjoying it. I don't understand all the points and stuff, but I love watching the cars speeding around the track and watching the skill of the drivers. I'm experimenting with the banana bread. I ran some oatmeal thru the food processor to make flour and mixed the oat flour in with the white flour, equal amounts. So will see what kind of bread turns out. Smells yummy. My neighbor loaned me her bread machine, I didn't have bread flour, just all purpose, so will see what kind of loaf I get. I will probably see about getting regular bread flour next shopping day (my list is growing). Am starting my weekly dinner menu, tomorrow I'll pop a pot roast in the crock pot and let that cook all day. I'll do the same with a pork roast probably on Tues. Bewtween the two that should g

Ye Friggin' GHODZ!!!!!!!!

Why did't anyone TELL me rhubarb has roots that go miles down into the ground!!!!!!! I decided that I was going to move the darn thing to it's new space, so out I went, completely unsuspecting with my shovel. I darn near needed dynamite to get the bloody thing uprooted, and I still didn't get all the roots out! WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That darn thing better like it's new spot, I ain't gonna try and move that sucker again!!!! I hope what roots I left in the old space don't grow, I'll be digging rhubarb out of my sugar peas for a while. All the little bits and pieces that either got cut thru or fell off are now spread out around the main plant, so if they grow, I'm gonna have a bummer crop of rhubarb, and I don't even like it LOL

Tomato "pills"

Finally got a couple pics of those teeny tiny tomatos I mentioned the other day, you can see them here . A big shout out to Rich T at R.A.T. blog for providing a way kewl photo album set up.

Almost time

and the weekend is here and I can go home and collapse. I actually got to bed at 10pm last night, mostly because I forced myself to stay up that long LOL I was completely wiped out by the time I got off work yesterday. All I can say is thank the Gods for Papa Murphy's. Dinner was easy last night, I highly recommend their new pizza, the Awesome Foursome. We picked one up on the way home, popped it in the oven and dinner was ready lickity split. If I had had to cook, things were going to get deadly. So I got to sleep fairly early (hubby was a bit later getting to bed and was noisy at that), but I kept waking up all night, as usual. Hubby says he could hear me snoring, but couldn't tell if I was stopping breathing while I was at it (he has a CPAP and he says it is hard to hear anything over that) so we are considering setting up the camcorder and taping over night. Be interesting to see how I sleep. Haven't been as twitchy today, tho it did start up this afternoon as I was ge

Oh my, the Lady burped!

Shortly after noon my time, Mount St Helens burped :D The eruption was no where near what happend 24 years ago (which I remember VERY well, I was in Spokane at the time waiting to fly home to California for the summer), but none the less, it is pretty cool. The Forest Circus's webcam seems to be over loaded at the moment, but the Seattle Times has a story and a video clip of the eruption.
