Almost Friday!!!!

Survived the trip to the doctors. Why is it I always end up with a needle stuck in my arm and them gleefully running off with my blood. SIGH!!!! Hopefully it will bring some answers. We are checking my calcium levels and my thyroid levels. The doc asked if my tongue was twitchy too, I said no, she said, good it isn't Lou Gehrig's disease. So here I sit waiting for test results, again :P We also discussed the fact that even tho I am usually in bed by 10:30 pm (me, the former night owl) I'm still not getting good sleep. I fall asleep pretty fast and the alarm doesn't go off until 7:30am, so I should be getting 8 hours sleep, but I'm waking up all the time, except when I take the meds for the restless legs and then I only sleep straight thru if I take the full 1 mg dosage. Then I'm pretty spacey the rest of the morning. So we're going to try and aim for a 10 pm bed time (no nightly news!!!!!! WAHHH!) and see if that helps any with the twitching. So now I hav

Anyone but Bush OR Kerry

I don't like either one and it looks like the Libertarians are finally running someone who isn't a kook, flake or down right scary. Michael Badnarik looks like a candidate I can back with a clear conscience.

SpaceShipOne lands after heart-stopping ride One down for private manned spacecraft to win $10 million X Prize By Michael Coren CNN Wednesday, September 29, 2004 Posted: 12:10 PM EDT (1610 GMT) MOJAVE DESERT, California (CNN) -- SpaceShipOne successfully blasted into space at about Mach 3, or three times the speed of sound, on Wednesday in its quest to win the Ansari X Prize. It touched down for a smooth landing about 11:35 a.m. ET, completing a successful flight despite some nail-biting moments. The spacecraft encountered problems shortly after the rocket ignited during its vertical ascent. It unexpectedly began a series of more than 20 barrel rolls. It was not clear why the craft lost maneuvering control. As SpaceShipOne turned groundward, however, pilot Mike Melvill appeared to steady the craft. "The trajectory was good, the roll was off," said Dick Rutan, a test pilot and brother of Burt Rutan, the SpaceShipOne designer. "I was worried. That wasn't

Stuff

This twitching is starting to drive me nuts, I'm getting a headache from it. Now my eyes feel like there is serious pressure on the back of them pushing them forward. If the doc doesn't have any answers tomorrow, then it is off to the opthamologist. I've added buttons up above to the various blog lists I have, just click on a button and it will take you there. I figure this lets me free up some of the link slots for other cool sites I come across. I found a site that lets you make the buttons online called CoolArchive. I haven't looked around the site too much, but making the buttons was pretty easy. For anyone interested, there is a Mount Saint Helens VolcanoCam One of the librarians brought in some teeny tiny tomatos, they are the size of a pea He doesn't know what kind they are, his daughter had planted them thinking they were cherry tomatos. He calls them "tomato pills". They are very yummy, big tomato taste, teeny tiny size. So I grab an extra

WEE HAWWW!!!

Thanks to the folk on the Good Eats Fan Page board I achieved yummy brown rice that was good eats. I had bought slightly less then a cup of brown rice, so took my magnalite pot with the heavy lid, put in 2 cups vegetable stock and brought that to a boil. Added the rice, stirred a couple times, put the lid on, turned the heat down and set the timer for 45 minutes. I was a good girl, I didn't lift the lid once during that time (boy, was that ever so hard to do). When the timer went off, I took the pot off the heat and set it aside and set the timer for 15 minutes (okay at this point I did peek, the stock was mostly absorbed and there were steam pits in the rice). I proceeded to finish dinner and served it to my hubby. He tried the rice and loved it (he did say it was a tad chewy , I said it was supposed to be a little bit chewy). I am now confident I can do brown rice, so I will invest in more the next time I do the major shopping. I am also going to try the different other ways of

Monday, Monday.....

and a pretty decent one at that. Today went pretty fast and so far (except for the system going down for 15 minutes) nothing has gone wrong (knock on wood). Weekend was pretty good. We did Costco and the Cash n Carry. Didn't get the peanut oil, what they had was pretty darned expensive. Picked up 5 liters of olive oil at Costco for about $17. We had been getting the 1 gallon can of Roland's brand at the Cash n Carry for about $15 or so, but that was priced at close to $25!!!!!! Needless to say, we'll stick with the Costco olive oil for a while. Picked up some boneless country pork ribs for $1.99 a pound. That will make a few nice meals. Did pick up some beef at Safeway, all at $1.99 a pound. Picked up a London Broil, some top round steaks and a huge chuck roast. Everything got cut in half and wrapped and frozen and are all awaiting my brilliant ideas for cooking them :D Picked up more butter from Wally World, still the cheapest source of butter in the Quad City area. If I

Banned Books Week "Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read is observed during the last week of September each year. Observed since 1982, the annual event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. Banned Books Week (BBW) celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them." Here is a partial list of the most challeneged books : # Scary Stories (Series) by Alvin Schwartz # Daddy’s Roommate by Michael Willhoite # I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou # The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier # The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain # Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck # Harry Potter (Series) by J.K. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

11:30 am and it is already 68 degrees F outside. It is going to be a nice day. Overnight temps were close to 50 so I didn't tent my tomatos, tho I did pull the top over the green house for the eggplants and bell peppers. My big boy tomatos are turning yellowy, so hopefully the warm weather this weekend will give them apush. Several of my romas are a nice yellow, so I am anticipating picking them later inthe week and then figureing out what I am going to do with them. YUMMMMMMMMMM Going to do a CostCo run today, also stop at the Cash 'n Carry and pick up more olive oil and sesame oil. Going to see about laying in some peanut oil in quantity for deep frying. Peanut oil is the best for high heat and also since I like to do a lot of stir fry it will come in handy. Made the appointment to see my doc. I was twitching like mad last night and hadn't had the calcium suppements in a couple of days. So I am back on them. I think that is in part why I pulled the muscles in my neck, I

It's Friday and I am in pain

Somehow or other managed to pull the muscles in my left shoulder and neck. As long as I don't move I am fine, other wise OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Took 2 ibruprophen so far, looking at a couple more soon. Supposed to be a nice weekend, I hope so I need to mow the weeds and measure the one garden spot for the cold frame. Looking into getting Nicky edited, we're probably going to take him to the vet our neighbors used. Apparently there is a couple of new vets there (we'd had a bad experience when we'd taken Adric to that particular practice, the gentleman who was working was very abrupt and not sympathetic and it was a bad experience all around), and J says they are great. They are also a lot cheaper then our regular vet and we can get a coupon from the Humane society for $10 off that, so with luck we can get him edited AND his shots for what we would pay just for the editing at our regular place (BTW, we refuse to call it getting them "fixed" there isn't anyt

I just realized..

that I haven't posted a recipe in a while. So here is my recipe for Po'Folks Steak Neptune (Steak Neptune is a dish using a nice piece of steak, topped with crab and smothered with hollandaise sauce). Take a piece of beef (I usually use either top round steak or take a bottom round roast and cut it into steaks. Whatever is cheapest that week) and cook it to desired doneness. Take some imitation Krab meat (I love surimi, there isn't enough shell fish in it for me to have an allergic reaction to it), top the steak and then using either packaged hollandaise sauce or homemade (I'm finding homemade is not that hard and better tasting) top the steak and Krab and serve with a favorite side dish. I usually use rice or unsauced noodles.

Summer has ended and Fall has begun

Definately a week of changes and such. Not sure we are ready for it all. The police are still investigating the shooting, everyone is baffled as to what the motive may have been and why. The accused are not talking and the search for clues extends 150 miles along a country highway. In the meantime life goes on, the football team is back in practice, which I think is a good thing for those kids. Young people shouldn't ever have to deal with senseless violent death like that. On a more personal note, taking the meds for my restless leg syndrome for a very annoying facial twitch was a not very good thing to do. About a week ago I developed a twitch in my right cheek that extends upwards and it is annoying. It is also intermittant and if I try to make it stop, it gets worse. So this morning I had this brilliant idea that the clonazapan I take to stop the twitches and creepy crawlies in my legs when I sleep might stop the twitch. Nope. Just made me loopier the all get out and totally i

When I'm an old woman

I need to lighten the mood up. So here is a funny I found on one of the boards I hang out on: When I'm an old woman, I'll live with each kid, and bring so much happiness....just as they did. I want to pay back all the joy they've provided. Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so exited! When I'm an old woman and live with my kids. I'll write on the walls with reds, whites, and blues, And I'll bounce on the furniture, wearing my shoes. I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out. I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout! When I'm an old woman and live with my kids. When they're on the phone and just out of reach, I'll get into things like sugar and bleach. Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head, When I'm an old woman and live with my kids. When they cook dinner and call me to eat, I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat, I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table

Crap

Jack Shannon died yesterday from his injuries. There are a lot of folk reeling in shock today, trying to make sense of it all. Moscow is a small community, even tho we have the university with over 10,000 students, but we are a close community with strong ties between town and gown. sigh........

Sadness for the University of Idaho

Over the weekend we lost two students to two different incidences and a 3rd student involved in one of them is in critical condition. The first was a motorcycle accident that happened in the early morning hours of Sunday. The two students, fraternity brothers, were coming back from an early morning run to a local fast food joint, when the motorcycle they were on hit a railroad tie in the frat's front yard and hit a tree. Both students were thrown from the bike, neither was wearing a helmet. Jason Yearout, 20, was declared dead at our local hospital from massive head injuries and fractures, Jack Shannon, 19, was flown to Spokane where he is in critical condition and in a coma. There were no witnesses, but police say evidence shows the bike going at a high rate of speed. Alcohol may also be involved. The 2nd happened later Sunday in the afternoon. Details are still sketchy, but at around 5:24 pm a call was made to the police about a possible shooting. Eric McMillan, 19, a freshman

It's Friday

and the system is down at work, so here I sit twiddling my thumbs. SIGH!!! Pity they won't send us home, I can thiink of LOTS of stuff I can be doing there. Hopefully things will be back up soon, I've a stack of books to process and patron records to correct. So in the meantime, catch up time :D hehehehehe The big shop I had planned on didn't happen. Hubby paid the bills and discovered some meds he was low on, so instead of a couple of hundred bucks, we had less then $100. Originally it was going to be almost $70, but hubby fiddled a bit and managed to switch a couple things around so we had a bit more. Spent most of it on meat at Costco. Bought 2 bags of frozen boneless, skinless chicken thighs, a 2 pack of whole fryers, a 3 pack of pork sirloin roast, a bottle of Johnny's Garlic Ceasar seasoning, a big container of peeled whole garlic and some aspirin and Vitamin E. We did pick up a tire inflator that plugs into the lighter, we need one, it came in handy reinflating

Women Who Dared

I received this on an email list I am on and passing it along here: Women Who Dared written by Beverly Davies A short history of voting... The women were innocent and defenseless. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of "obstructing sidewalk traffic." They beat Lucy Burn, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air. They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women. Thus, unfolded the "Night of Terror" on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his g

WOO HOO!!!!!

That's it, I'm buying some lottery tickets. Got a call from hubby saying "why didn't you tell me you were getting a bonus" to which I replied," I've been screwed over so many times by the university when it comes to money I wasn't going to hold my breath or count on being one of the ones who got the one time 1% bonus". Between the dealer fixing our car for free and the bonus, looks like our luck is changing and maybe we'll win the Powerball tomorrow hehehehehe SO HAPPY DANCE!!!! Which means we can do a serious grocery shop. I'm figuring about half of it is going to buy meat and the other half for every thing else I will need. So this weekend I am going to do some serious planning as I'm thinking of laying in some soups and stews in the freezer and actually start PLANNING menus.

Probably time

to post about my life LOL Had a nice weekend. Spent a lot of it on the couch in front of the tube or on the computer. Diablo has an option of creating hardcore characters, once they die, they can't be resurrected. It is fun to see how far you can get a character before it gets killed off. Did a bit of work on the garden. Got my coldframe/greenhouse built around my peppers and eggplants. Ended up putting a bunch of my potted veggies in there also, temps have been getting close to the 40s at night. I brought the last 2 pots in to the house last night, they were the ones I had in the hangers off the porch. Pulled up most of the sugar peas, they were pretty well gone. Some I've kept as several of the cucumber plants are climbing them. My tomatos are coming along nicely, my bush beans aren't doing as well as I hoped and I've harvested a couple cucumbers already. I do need to come up with something to hold the plastic over the coldframe better, I think a kittie decided to

Things getting sticky for owner of sticker" By Matthew D. LaPlante The Salt Lake Tribune Salt Lake Tribune Derek Kjar is not the president's biggest fan. But the 19-year-old Salt Lake County man says he does not intend to harm President Bush with anything more than a vote for John Kerry come November. Just to be sure, though, agents from the Secret Service recently paid Kjar a visit, telling him that his neighbors had alerted them to a potentially threatening bumper sticker on his car. The sticker, which can be found on a number of Web sites, features a black-and-white likeness of Bush, a crown tilted slightly on his head. Under the image are the words "KING GEORGE - OFF WITH HIS HEAD." Glen Passey, agent in charge of the Secret Service's Salt Lake City office, would not confirm that agents visited Kjar. But Passey said his office investigates all threats against the president. "Oh, please," said David Hudson, a research attorney who wo

TGIF!!!

AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 25 minutes to go and I am free for 3 whole days :D Not much planned this weekend, work on getting the cold frames figured out and up. Move part of the compost pile to the spot in front of the shed where I going to expand my garden and go to a BBQ at a friends on Monday. Hopefully the weather stays decent for at least most of the weekend. Definately have to look at working on all those webpages I need to finish or update. I also have a lot of pics to process and post. Hubby called the vet to check on how much it will cost to get Nicky edited (we refuse to call it getting him fixed, there isn't anything broken). $43!!!!!!! Used to be boy kitties only cost $25 to get them edited. Hate to see what they charge for girl kitties! Add his next set of shots and it will be close to $100. Needless to say, I hope we can hold out another month or two before getting him edited so we can save up enough money to do so, or else his shots are goin

Sigh!

The storm yesterday slipped around us, we barely got enough rain to streak the dust on the car windshield :( I'm getting a wee bit tired of all the good storms missing us. In car news, we finally got the dealership to give us a firm diagnosis on the Forester, they agree it is the viscous coupling. So we'll double check with our mechanic and then see what the dealership will offer us as a deal for getting it fixed. If need be we will park the car and get the Ford up and running (hubby checked, the battery from the Subaru will work in the Escort). We can either re-register the Escort ($31) or transfer the plates from the Subaru to the Escort ($5). I think the later would be the best. However, the bank holds the papers on the Subaru, so if we park it to lower the insurance they want the plates. Hubby doesn't think we can swap the registration around then. I think we can as long as the active plates are on the vehicle that will be running and the bank gets a set of plates. Not

Subject: The Journey of Life LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE SAFELY IN A WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING "HOLY SHIT.............WHAT A RIDE !!! "

Blah!

I do hate the last hour of work sometimes. Sometimes it is nice as I can actually get some work done without interuptions, but other times it seems everyone waited until I was the only full time staff memeber here to come to the desk with their problems. SIGH!!!! Then there are times the &$%#^ clock runs backwards. It does, I swear it does. Well, at least it is Hump Day and things usually get better the last couple of days and we do have a 3 day weekend coming up. Have to start planning the cold frame for the eggplants and peppers. The eggplants are getting lovely purple flowers on them, definately have to get some pics. Cooling off today, supposed to be wet and rainy for a few days, which will do my garden some good. I will probably dig up the sugar peas, they are definately on their last legs and not producing much. Found out today the fan boards at Food Network are closing down. I like to hang out on the Good Eats board, lots of cool folk there. Someone posted a link to a Go
